Jerry West as Commissioner? Your thoughts....
I posted this on the general board. But I also would like to see what everyone here thought. After the lakers game there was a long sit-down interview with Jerry West, and they picked his brain about many NBA topics, not all laker related. He was asked that if Stern stepped down, and he took over the position what would he do differently? He was reluctant to answer this question but eventually made a couple comments. He said one thing he disliked is the draft. He said he's perfectly fine with the 1st pick being done with the balls and a lottery system. But after that, it should be based on record. He doesn't care about trying to protect the integrity of the schedules late in the season by a team "tanking." Also he said he would like to see less teams, and more talent evenly distributed. Do you guys think the logo would make a good commissioner? To be honest the thought never crossed my mind until now. But I like it. I think he would be more Player/NBA Friendly, as opposed to being more of a businessman CEO like Stern. I think Stern focuses more on the globalization of the NBA Product, and it's squeeky clean image. Whereas the logo would make the NBA Product more competitive and personnel friendly. Any thoughts??

the logo might be good... but stern has done a pretty good job... def more good than bad... we havent had the drug problems baseball or football has had - granted bball isnt a sport that players routinely use drugs for, but...
and also we havent had the image problems that the NFL has had.
we've also made bball more worldwide... there are so many euro players and south american players in the NBA... the whole thing is great.

i dont' think west has what it takes.
he'd make a great ambasador for the league, but when it comes to leagal battles and marketting decisions - he just doesn't have the character to get down and dirty to get his way with those things.
stern has done an extremely underrated job, and the league is lucky to have him as comissioner.
but like i said any type of emabassador-like job for west would be fantastic for the nba. i just don't think west has any interest in taking a position in the league offices altogether.

Sure you can. There are performance enhancing drugs that prolongs stamina in an unimaginable ways. Imagine everyone on the court being fatigued in the 4th quarter while you are fresh as you were in the 1st quarter?

Obviously I love Jerry West for what he did as a Laker player and as GM.
Without question the best GM in the history of this league.
I doubt he would be a good commissioner though. It is a totally different job. There are legal, financial, commercial, and public affairs ramifications of this job that I think Jerry would rather not deal with.
Above all, as a commish, you have to be able to kick some a$$ once in a while and be stern (pardon the pun) which he may have trouble with.
Keep The Logo as what he is: one of the greatest Lakers of all time.
