Now that the deadline has passed there are some players being waived. Would the Lakers benefit from signing any of the available players? For instance, Brent Barry was waived from the Sonics. The Hornets are talking to PJ Brown. Detroit, with the aqcuisition of Dixon are looking to buyout Flip Murray.

The acquistion of Juan Dixon from the Raptors on Thursday leads many to believe that the Pistons aren't done making moves this season, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Chances are that Detroit will buyout the contract of guard Flip Murray and look to sign a big man, like free agent Dale Davis. [READ]

For me, I wouldn't mind looking at someone like Barry. He is a vet with playoff experience. Also, we really only have 4 gaurds right now. So someone like Murray would interest me as well.

i would be delighted if we got Brent Barry. Think it would be an amazing signing for our bench, hes a big point guard who can hit the 3 and has great championship experience.

Probably, but keep in mind he won't be able to re-sign with them for another month. That's plenty of time for other teams to make their pitch. I've read that Phoenix might be interested, which would be logical considering they only have three dependable 3-point shooters any more with Nash, Barbosa and Bell.

He could help, I guess.

But, need I remind you all of the older veterans we tried to pick up in the last few seasons?

Karl Malone - injured in his last season, retired as a Laker
Vlade Divac - how many games did he play in his second tenure as a Laker? retired a Laker
Aaron Mckie - injured in his "last season?", he's a retired Laker for bringing in Pau

Plus, on top of this recent history, Brent is injured right now!

not really what he will give us on the court, more off it.

Brent would be an interesting pickup, but with VladRad, Farmar, Vujacic, and Fisher shooting well from behind the arc, I'm not sure where he would fit....

I don't want to cut The Machine's minutes though..

i'd take my chances with Barry, very reliable shooter, vet. experience, and will know his role.

I'll eat my own arm if Barry isn't a Spur come playoff time....unless the league steps in a la Stackhouse.

I would like us to strengthen the point guard position or the center position before we acquire another shooter. That is, unless we lose a player due to injury.

Kwame comes to mind.

However, I always loved Barry's game and competitive nature. He would be a great fit if we didn't have Radman, Sasha, Fisher, Kobe, Coby already...

barry would be nice, but that would cut into the machine's playing time

and then TWO barry's will have won titles with the lakers in the last 7-8 years...

I'd sign Barry him for two primary reasons.

1: To keep him away from the Spurs and Suns. This is like what other teams have done in other sports. You sign a baller simply to keep them away from other teams.

2: Just in case Kobe's hand acts up or Machine Boy goes down. At that point, someone like Barry would be very valuable to LA.

Barry has lived in LA before, so if he likes it, and if he's promised some minutes in LA, then I don't see why he wouldn't want to roll with LA.

I'd sign Magloire, if Kwame doesn't end up getting waived...

I have always wondered this, but why does everyone give up on Flip Murray? He is no star material but he is a very good contributor everywhere he went. He played well in Milwaukee, averaged double figure in scoring playing for Cleaveland and always contributed when playing in Detroit. He would be a great pick up for us because he can score off bench.

Brent Barry is still solid and playoff material. All those years under Pop might be just the best playoff experience you need. I'd sign him up ASAP if we're planning to use the final roster spot.

Id like to make an offer for barry, "just in case" scenario wouldnt be bad.

I doubt we sign anybody but if we did I'd like for it to be Ruben Patterson, we need a defensive minded SF if Trevor isn't fully healthy.

I know people will say him and Kobe is this and that, but they have since put the childish stuff behind them. In fact Ruben mentioned Kobe tried to get the FO to bring him back a couple of seasons ago.

I would trust Brent Barry with the ball far more in a playoff series over someone like Coby Karl, Sasha or Vlad. I personally would prefer him too Sasha because I think he can do everything he does to the same level but Barry has vastly more experience and thats what this team needs if anything.
