Just wondering...When is the time for Bynum to sign a new improved contract? And what will happen with LO then??? I defenitely dont want NOW to lose him, but that kind of contract for the 3rd-4th option is good...until the time comes for your future franchise player to sign his next contract....

Well, if Odom wants so much to spend the rest of his career here, he has to understand that demanding a big contract will let him with no chances to play here. I'd say that 7 - 9M is very enough for him. I suppose he'll accept a considerable cut in his salary when resigning. Also he's a nice piece for a trade. He may also be traded next year or in the summer.

the thing is that I dont want him to be traded... and the other thing is the post topic: whats gonna happen with bynums contract??? how much is the board willing to give him?

The problem is if Odom does get 9 per, and we have both Kobe's and Gasol's contracts at the same time we need to resign both Bynum and Farmar that for sure will get us for the salary cap. Does Buss wants to do that? that will be the question

Statistically, Tyson Chandler is the closest player I can find to Andrew Bynum, and he makes $10.5 million a year, and is a few years older.

Thus, comparably, I'd say Bynum is looking at ~$12 million per, based on the year he's having, his projected ceiling and his role on the team.

We have to see how Lamar plays at the 3 before we extend him... He may not be as good at the 3 as he is right now... Plus we still have Luke, Radman, Ariza

without being the fanancial manager,I would rather have a combo player like odom with 13 rather than Luke + Vlad for 12...besides odom can win big games as an X-factor. the thing is like Big_Bad_LA said that its Bynum AND Farmar contracts to be renewed...And I strongly believe that Farmar is going to make greater impact next year in the wake of a renewal...everybody wants to remain a Laker!

Damn thats a huge raise from what hes getting now. What has me kinda worried is Ronny, Ariza and The machine all Free Agents this offseason.

my friends and i were just discussing this, bynum is eligible this offseason im were thinking hes gonna get at least 10 mil. now unless we unload luke or vlad, were gonna be in luxury trouble for several years. kobe and gasol and odom all have huge contracts, if we sign bynum to a 5 year 55 mil we really arent going to have cap flexibiliy and we'll be in the luxury for a long time. and we have sasha farmar turiaf coming off the books too so im guessing we'll want to resign them. gonna be interesting to see how the lakers management approach this in the next couple of years.

I get a little confused when "LUKE RIDENOUR" says "WE" and is talking about the Lakers, then I get even more confused when "WE" are worried about luxury taxes when "we" don't actually pay for it, Jerry Buzz does. as long as we have a championship caliber team who cares what Jerry pays in luxury taxes. it is time he pays for his box seat at Staples center like everybody else.

you worry because if if buss starts slashing prices like crazy eddie, then "you" wont have your championship team.

We finally have a team worth paying luxury tax again, Buss isn't going to start being cheap all of a sudden. We pay ridiculous prices for tickets, he pays the money for the product. He's done it before and he'll do it again, winning is worth it!

Jerry will just raise ticket prices each year so WE could be paying for it if WE actually went to the games.

Based on how much the luxury tax limit rises each year, it's reasonable to think the limit for 2008-09 will be $70 million. The salary cap could be $58 million. With the salaries already on the books for next season including Mihm and Ariza, the Lakers will be over $75 million, as is listed in Hoopshype. That's $5 million in tax for 10 players. Every player the Lakers sign, re-sign, or draft will be worth 2x their salary because of luxury tax - at least next season.

I want the FO to re-sign both Turiaf and Vujacic. But I want them to do it in different ways. Turiaf is worth a contract similar to what Luke has, a 6-year, $30 million deal. That would make his salary $4 million in 2008. It's not the full MLE but it's better than what most teams can give and I don't see too many teams giving him the full exception. There are at least a dozen decent quality bigs in FA this summer who should all command less than the full MLE.

As for the Machine, I'd like to offer him the qualifying offer this summer. That makes him a free agent and he can see what his value is on the market. He might get the full MLE somewhere. If so, good luck to him, that's too much for a bench shooter. He might instead stay for the qual offer as Mickael Pietrus did with the Warriors. Sasha's doing well this year in his more limited role, but his performance smells of contract year.

Depending on if they re-sign Sasha or not, the Laker payroll will be at $81-84 million next year, or $11-14 million in luxury tax. I can't see them going over that. The following year they'll be at $76 million with only 8 players if Bynum gets the max.

I cant find a team with 4 players that make more than 12M/year... Quite sth to worry about....I believe that sth is going to change when the kid demands a new contract.

Do the math and it really only points to one fiscally responsible situation - let LO go at the end of his current deal. They won't trade for a more ideal fit. I don't think they'll even sign him for $8 million or whatever reduced price many fans want to see. If they re-sign him or trade him for anything other than a draft pick they enter Knicks territory, and that's just too big a price to pay.

The team should be able to groom a proper replacement for LO in the next 1.5 years from their existing roster, a draft pick, or a future trade.
