Was he a good player and a main contributor to the Lakers dynasty? Or was he just a guy who benefited from playing on Shaq and Kobes team? My opinion is the latter.

He probably was the most underrated player on that team. He was the kind of player every championship contender dreams of having IMO.

wha? his last two years in boston rick was 15/5/4/45%. he never sniffed that with the lakers cause he took a reduced role in the prime years of his career.

+1. You cannot win titles without role players like Rick Fox. He was a tough-minded defender and capable 3-point shooter. Plus, he had great hair.

Lakers would not have been as successful without Fox.
He did al the little things.
He rebounded and hustled.
He scrambled for loose balls.
He played physical when we needed that.
He made some key 3 pointers so the defenses had to respect him.
He was extremely unselfish.

IMO, a great Laker.

I've always seen Luke as a little less athletic version of Rick Fox...

wow looking back, how many great role players did we have during the three peat??? Fisher, Harper, Shaw, Fox, Horry, Grant & Green...

but yes he was very important during the laker run
outside bowen and battier i can't think of a player that brings the things that fox brought to the lakers

Who do you think they are? It's tough watching the magic attempting to pass the ball into the post to Howard because they kinda suck at it. It's such an underrated part of the game because NOT anyone can do it. Hubie Brown always mentions the best angle for it to be done it "foul line extended" so where the horizontal line hits the 3 pt line.

One my fav back in the day was Rick aka the man Fox who was simply awesome at the post feed. This thread is dedicated to him.

I'll never forget in game 5 of the NBA finals against the sixers when they were closing the deal, he threw the lob intended for o'neal but it went in by itself...for 3 nonetheless!!

But don't be mistaken he did more than just pass, he also did some scoring too...

Ronny Turiaf in terms of playing with heart, bringing a lot of energy...just like a catalyst.

Rick Fox, was a great player. Did the dirty work and really didn't get the recognition he deserved. This man played with heart.

As for Luke, he is a low grade Rick Fox, really low grade. Perhaps one day his game will improve as his teammates have.

The best comparison I can think of is Shane Battier. Rick Fox was tough as nails, both physically and mentally.

Rick was valuable in that he always did a fantastic job on Tim Duncan, not to mention he helped space the floor with his 3-point shooting. His hustle play has already been mentioned by previous posters, so there's nothing to add to that.

He also has a hot wife.

On a side note, I met Rick in San Antonio when I was working out at Bally's gym when the Spurs ended our dynasty. He's a great guy, and offered to buy me lunch, but I had to decline as I was in a hurry to get to an appointment. I don't think anyone knew who he was in the gym, but as he was walking out I tracked him down in the parking lot and had a few words with him while wishing him and the team the best of luck against the Spurs.

imagine we had gotten battier on our team, people on some of the threads wouldnt be so fickle about our wins. Rick Fox was one of the most underrated players in the nba when he was in the league and he definitely is one of the best players to play in the purple and gold
