Kobe's struggling Q rating

How is Kobe Bryant, the L.A. beloved, playing elsewhere? Is Colorado ancient history for the folks in Nebraska, Florida and Maine? Does the image of a selfish basketball player, advanced in part by Phil Jackson's book and the split with Shaq, linger? "He still struggles," said Matt Delzell, senior client manager for the Davie Brown talent agency, which ranks athletes and celebrities in eight categories to determine their viability as endorsers. "Kobe has a high awareness number, so people know who he is, but when it comes to trust, appeal, influence and such things, he scores below the average score for everyone else in seven out of seven categories."

TJ Simers has had a vendetta against Kobe ever since that testy exchange this past summer. I think it's on video.

Not like this is much of a surprise to anyone I'm sure. So Kobe doesn't have the most likable personality... that much has been obvious since he first stepped into the league. Who really cares? I like what he does on the court and that's really all that should matter to Lakers fans. Whether or not he's getting the type of endorsements that media darlings like LBJ is besides the point. Articles like these are garbage, and do nothing but further the personal agenda of muckraking sports writers.

It's sad how far the LA Times has fallen since being taken over by the Chicago Tribune company. This is what happens when you have foreign ownership of what should be a locally controlled paper. Nothing but trash spewed at this city and it's most visible representatives.

TJ Simers is I believe a humor columnist, but his articles took a dark turn last summer. There was a very testy exchange between the two, I don't have the video but a partial transcript is available on this blog:

http://www.lakerscore.com/kobe/tj-simer ... nt-simmer/

So I'm not surprised about Simers' not-so-subtle attacks on Kobe. His current article is just ridiculous though. Highly inappropriate.

It's no secret many people dislike Kobe, he's one of the most disliked people in the entire country - hell that was the center subject of Kobe's most notable commercial of the past couple years.

We've know for quite some time that Kobe is not well-liked, why bring it up like it's some major breaking news? That's where Simers' agenda comes in; at the height of the nationwide talk about Kobe as MVP, Simers' jumps in with, "hold on everybody, Kobe is not likeable, people don't like him." Never knew endorsements were relevant to the MVP discussion. So what's your point, Simers?

Obviously, Kobe's return to prominence is pouring salt into Simers' wounds. He's still hurting from the slap in the face Kobe gave him:

Wow that interview was classic example of putting things into someone's mouth and waiting for a big headline. No wonder that prick got what he deserved from Kobe.

Now that things are pretty rosy with the Lakers, Simers had remained silent until mid season and suddenly when he has no grounds to spew something against Kobe, he comes up with the past. WHo really does want to read that kind of stuff and then take it seriously as if Simers has produced something new?

TJ simers wrote it? It seems him and plachke only write certain things to get a rise out of people. I take that with a grain of salt.

This is way out of left field. Seeing Kobe and all the Lakers games the guy is loved.

Kobe is the people's champ, not coperate america's.

Will people stop focusing on these non basketball related stuff already? Kobe is a basketball player and his only objective in life is to play basketball, not to be people's favorite man in the world.

i know i'm not the only one but i like how everyone hates (or should i say dislikes) Kobe.... makes it all the more better. there's a lot of people on the bandwagon rite now; besides, this is the reason Kobe is my fav player because no one (supposedly) likes him

I disagree. Just about everybody thinks he is the best and now even my wife who hates sports wants to watch all Laker 4th quarter games just to see what he will do next. I have tried to show her Lebron to get an unbias point of view from somebody who has no ties and doesn't know the sports so a player has to stick out for her to notice and so far nothing. She doesnt even remember him. I just moved and she got league pass just to watch 1 guy in the 4th. Pretty impressive.
Also his 2004 sneakers are 140 dollars and ugly as hell yet they sell.
Now the people in the know do know he has changed all even the big time haters like Jay Marratie or however you spell it (around the horn) is reluctantly but doing it giving praises and he used to talk about Kobe with such hate you would think the colorado chich was his daughter.
Kobe and Lebron are basketball right now and Kobe is still ahead and 99% of the experts agree.
