Where were you when you heard about one of the greatest heist in the history of NBA? I remember it was Saturday morning of February 2. The TV was on and I woke up to this: "Breaking News...The Lakers has pulled off a blockbuster trade that sends Pau Gasol to the Lakers for........ " at this point I knew Odom was gone, and my heart started to pound because I knew Andrew will be next.... and she said "... for Kwame Brown and Javaris Crittenton." I was like... HUH??? I literally yelled "WTF." Is this some kind of a Joke?!? At this point I was ecstatic! My wife was like.. what the hell is wrong with you? GO SIT DOWN! a la Phil Jackson. I thought I was dreaming.. I logged on to RealGM and people are posting it in every forum it was unbelievable!

What about you?

Sat. morning? You sure got the news late...

I was at work and read about the rumor before it actually went down right here on RealGm.

I left my office to go tell all of my fellow Laker fans/followers at my job and by the end of the day my face hurt (I couldnt stop smiling).

I must be a stick in the mud, b/c on this day, many coworkers asked me why I was in such a good mood.

I saw the notice on ESPN.com.

I blurted out "Holy Sh?t" loud enough, and with enough shock, that my coworkers thought something really, really bad had just happened.

They still tease me about it.

I was at softball practice here is San Diego, I checked my phone, and had 3 missed calls, one from Hawaii, one from Long Beach, and one from L.A. At that point, I knew something had gone down. Once I found out, I told the team I had to go home for personal reasons. I got home and it was like Christmas.

The trade came at the perfect time for me. It was exam week, and I had no school on that day (Friday). My girlfriend was over because she had no exams, and she had to leave Thursday night because she did have school Friday. She lives about three hours away, and I only get to see her twice a month or so. So she left Thursday night, I followed the Laker game against the Pistons on Yahoo Sports, and that made the night even worse.

I woke up at noon on Friday, taking advantage of my day off for some sleep in. Had a sick feeling in my stomach, cause I never had my girl beside me like I was getting used to for the past week. I got out of bed, showered, and came back in my room with a towel wrapped around my waist. Logging into MSN, I started getting dressed. Once dial up finally opened up MSN, it instantly froze with 5 people instant messaging me. One of the tabs on the bottom of the screen as someone's MSN name said, "PAU GASOL TRADED TO THE.." and I couldn't see the rest because of how many windows were open. Dial up finally opened it up, and it said Lakers.

I asked the guy for who, and he said.. "LMAO.. Kwame Brown, Critt, picks, and Aaron McKie!" Now, I didn't really believe it because of McKie's name. But, 3 other people were telling me the same thing, so to Real GM I came. And there it was, in all it's glory.

My day wasn't totally great, as I learned later that her school was cancelled because of the cold weather, and she could have stayed a couple more days.. But, I felt a little bit better. Which was something I needed.

lol good memories
I was in school and get a call from my friend. He was home since a family member passed away, so I picked it up thinking something happened. He is laughing out of happiness on the other side and tells me we traded s**t for Gasol. I told him I was going to kill him if he was lying. I then ran into the library, looked online :jawdrop: , and literally yelled out F YES so loud that it got me 3 hours of detention. but it was worth it
then i told every single of the 4000 people in my school, whether i knew them or not

I was at work hacking away at code when I decided to pop open ESPN to check the Lakers upcoming schedule. Upon seeing the big front page headline that stated we acquired Gasol, I jumped out of my chair, threw my hands in the air, and yelled "HOLY ****!"

Some of the guys that sit next to me didn't have any idea what was going on, but in the environment we work in it isn't uncommon for someone to yell obscenities when we crack a problem or are stumped. Their first reaction was that they thought a database server went down, so when I told them that the Lakers just became one of the teams to beat, they lol'd. One guy that sits across from me is a Rockets fan though, so he just shook his head at the trade because he knew the implications. After all that happened, I pretty much decided I was done working for the day and would devote the next few hours to reading/posting on RealGM WRT the reactions.

That moment was probably the most excited I had been in a long time, at least as far as the Lakers are concerned.

Damn you! I was gonna post this thread after the season was over... LOL, anyways:

I remember the night before.. I was browsing all the RealGM forums (as I sometimes do when Im bored)... And I made my way to the Memphis Grizzlies page... A poster on there posted a link to an email or article from some Grizzlies insider that stated something like:

Be very afraid if you are a Grizzlies fan, Chris Wallace and the owners are planning a firesale and Gasol will finally be traded BUT we arent gonna get a fraction of what we thought would.... He said something like: "How would Kwame and a filler sound to you?"

I remember laughing, and thinking this would never happen... I understand wanting expirings, but why not shoot for someone like Jamison who can produce AND is expiring....

But then I read the reactions from the Grizzlies fans, and they said that this guy has never been wrong... I decided to go to bed before my imagination went wild and I really got my hopes up

The next morning (Friday) I checked realgm before I went to school (like I always do lol).... Nothing. "I knew it was bs. No one would ever do that."

I went to class, had a BIO lab, and my next class wasnt for a couple hours... I checked the RealGM wiretap on my phone.....

"Breaking News: PAU GASOL TRADED TO LAKERS"

I immediately had a smile on my face that I couldnt get rid of... I think to myself... ok, but Lamar HAD to be included... I start reading.... Pau Gasol has been traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Aaron McKie and 2 first rounders.... I start laughing, and my eyes get watery..... I run to the computer lab to see what this very board is saying and everyone is ECSTATIC... Miles, Phil, Tycobb, everyone... I check espn to confirm...

I have to tell my Uncle... he's as big a Laker fan as I am... But he's in Phoenix for the superbowl and probly doesnt have access to a computer....

"Hello"

"LAKERS GOT PAU GASOL!!!!"

"WHAT??"

"LAKERS GOT PAU GASOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Who'd they give up?"

"Kwame, Javaris, McKie, 2 firsts!" (As Im telling him this I start crying... It was like as I was telling him, I was realizing really how ridiculous the trade was)

"You gotta be sh*tting me..."

"I swear to God!! 15th Championship!!! Lakers are relevant again baby!"

I could already see Kobe holding up 4 fingers and holding the Larry O'Brien over his head....

It all started that morning.

I get a snow day and I get to sleep in. When I finally wake up I log on to realgm and check this board. I find this thread:

http://realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=756576

Depressed after the loss to the Pistons, I decide it was just another "rumor". I was extremely mad at Kwame after his 10 fumbled passes from Kobe that night.

I'm on the computer for another hour or two just checking some stuff out. All of a sudden I gotta go. For some reason I decide to check realgm. First thing I see:

BREAKING NEWS: PAU TO LAKERS

I thought damn, that guy was right. Then I read the caption and see what we gave up and I still don't know how I didn't just go right there. The rest of that day I was the happiest person ever. At school on Friday I brag to all my friends and tell them how if Pau had played in that game the week earlier the Lakers woulda blown them right outta the Palace. Suddenly Lamar starts playing like a star, Kobe like he owns the world, and then Pau comes in!
_________________________________________________________

While I was looking for that thread I linked above, I found another thread titled MEM/LA posted only the night before the trade. It was by a Grizzlies fan who offered Stromile Swift, Brian Cardinal, and their 2008 2nd. The first reply to that was by That Nicka who replied by saying:
no thanks.. Would you guys give up Pau Gasol for Lamar and Kwame?

Reading that now I almost fell out of my seat laughing.
