We should seriously consider hiring him as a defensive assitant this offseason. Especially after today, our defense needs a lot of help and Phil seems to ignore it or something. If we have Phil manning the offense and JVG manning the defense we can become a lot harder to beat.

JVG is a great guy but Phil Jackson's ego is too large to have someone take over the defensive coaching away from him.

20 million locked up in 2 coaches? I'm sure Buss would love to pay that.

All he cares about is that #10 on his licence plate.

Don't JVG and Phil have bad blood between eachother, or at least when Van Gundy was in New York?

I remember reading something like he once criticized Phil and the triangle offense.

The Lakers double team when a guy doesnt even need help and leave great shooters wide open. Especiallt Fisher today

Van Gundy pointed that out

If I'm not mistaken, VG referred to Jackson as "Big Chief Triangle."

Phil had this to say about Jeff: "I don't even pay attention to him. He's like a fly on the wall."

The idea of Van Gundy sounds perfect for this team, but they're like water and oil.

This is what bothers me the most. While it certainly takes skill to be able to squeeze through screens and cover great scorers, good team defense is largely about effort and concentration. We are so severely lacking in these areas at times that I have to wonder exactly what Jackson is doing to fix the problem. Disjointed, sloppy, innattentive -- those aren't terms you'd associate with a well-coached team. But they also happen to describe our defense in recent weeks.

JVG is a great defensive coach, but his defensive philosophy is predicated on specific offensive schemes. In other words, he has to coach both offense and defense to be effective.
Additionally, PJ and JVG don't like each other and it would never work out with those giant sized egos.

I'd rather bring in Michael Cooper. He is a great defensive coach.

Do it Mitch.

Like offense, defense can also go bad with the loss of key personnel. I'm very much concerned with the PG defense though. We can't let Rafer Alston drop 30 on us and have title aspirations. He was taking pull up 3s and making them.

Just wondering if we missed a trick by not getting Kidd for an LO deal.

that sounds pretty good but he has candace parker coming in later this year, hard to pass up on her
then again the wnba might not make it by the time draft rolls around then we can pick him up
he's been a successful coach on every level men and women
check out what he did with the nuggets before george karl came in
