Yeah. I think he is kind of in a blue collar role for the Lakers right now. Getting all the rebounds, scoring putback, hitting jumper occasionally...I think that's what he does best.

we can all speculate about how lamar will do, if he will maintain his new found jumper, etc. we won't know til we see it and really its been discussed to death. this is about appreciating what he's done for almost two months now.

what really surprised me is that hes been putting these numbers up very consistantly these last 2 months..

He just isn't equipped to be a go-to type that you can run the offense through. But as he's shown over the past two months, he can still create opportunities for himself just by being active.

The biggest thing is the consistency -- look how similar those numbers are; staggering! He's healthy, he's confident, and we're seeing the results.

Yes, indeed. I had a friend who used to apply that same phrase to the sport of chasing tail, but the point is the same.

It's just so nice not to see Lamar loitering out on the 3-point line for entire quarters at a time. I think most of us have had a good handle on the triangle offense for a long time -- it allows players enough freedom that they can find their own niche and play to their strengths. It's only taken Lamar four seasons, but I think he's finally figured it out. (At least, I hope he has).

His numbers are in line with his career, minus a little less scoring from a slow start this season. Lamar has always been a good (not great) relatively durable NBA starter. He's also notorious for having strong finishes.

Hopefully we can resign him:

Odom/Bynum/Gasol/Kobe w/ Phil Jackson for the next 2-4 seasons could rival some of the best teams/dynasties in the history of the league; granted Kobe declines slowly, and Bynum materializes into at least an Odom-level player.

^ The whole reason the Lakers were 1st in the Western Conference before he went down in mid-January was exactly because Bynum was not an "Odom-level player". He was quite a bit better, and it's why he was scoring more than Odom for weeks leading up to his knee injury and is why LO has been talked about as a scoring option behind Bynum.

I wasn't referring exclusively to scoring.

Odom brings 15/10/5 (rounded off) and is in the prime of his career.

Bynum has the potential to be an elite "C".

But before he plays 35+ MPG, and puts up solid production for a full season, its unfair to compare the two.

Lamar is a warrior no doubt. I like the fact that he wants to retire a laker.
But I still think lakers would be a better team with Artest over Lamar just because of Artest's defense. other than that I would gladly take Lamar over any other SF/PF combo player.

It's unpopular to say Odom's a really good player; is worth his contract, and contributes significantly to the success of the team.

"Odom sucks" and their reasoning is usually arbitrary.

The sports-radio hosts in LA seem to be the final word about Lakers basketball. If you go against their conventional wisdom, you get ostracized here.

I've seen posters (not sarcastically) compare Luke Walton's value to Odom's.

LO has been something else these last few games. Not giving the ball and attacking the defense. Dunking the ball instead of laying it up.

Anyone else smile when LO grabs a defensive rebound and he taps the ball against the backboard? I think that starts his motor.

Lamar is becoming indispensable, if he got hurt right now it would be catastrophic. I'm really liking the way the whole team is playing. There should be a Turiaf thread also.....
