I have been a long time poster in the trade board but not here at the Lakers board. Since I am trying to gauge opinion on my idea/s for trading Lamar Odom, I would appreciate the honest, however brutal opinion of this board.

There's no question Lamar Odom is a very versatile player. One on one, I'd say there are only a handful of guys in the NBA that can handle him. He is technically a small forward but he does not have the range. He is quick and his dribble is best among 6'10s but his feet are not too mobile for your liking. He is a "natural" player that does not seem to force the issue and he is content being the last option on the floor. For some, this is a good thing. For the Lakers without Kobe's 7-footers, not so good.

In terms of defense, I grade him a B+ defender. Not lockdown, not stellar but not bad. He makes questionable decisions too but when he is focused, he gives you some 17-17-6 with ease.

Naturally, this discussion would not be entertained if he were earning the 7-8m range. For that amount I'd say he will be a coveted piece league-wide. The issue then is because he is earning some 14.5m next year and he is not your natural three. With Drew and Pau occupying the high and low post, Lamar Odom becomes the odd man out with his lack of range and his tendency to wait on his teammates. For what its worth, theory-wise, Vlade Radmanovic is a better fit at the 3 than Lamar Odom.

Do we trade him for those reasons?

Which teams would possibly want him and for what package?

Supposing we do trade him, who do we want in particular?

If he asks for 13-14 mil, yes. If his (newly rediscovered) jumper dissapears in the playoffs, yes.

Otherwise, no, imo.

Poor Lamar, plays the best ball of his career and he's still getting trade threads.

I don't trade him. I know some say he's overpaid, maybe his next contract will be less. Depends on what Buss wants to do. If he doesn't think Lamar is even worth what he's making now, they'll probably try to trade him.

I want to keep him though.

Depends how much he asks for. If he's going to ask for a $15million extension you can ship him out for a defender who can shoot the ball.

Lamar is playing great recently, and IMO, we should wait and see how our team performs with both Andrew/Pau in the lineup before making a decision.

I would trade him if the price is right. We are a contender right now which means we won't trade players if we get the worse end of the deal. I think Odom is not a good fit because he is not a good defender and a terrible shooter, both of which we need from our starting SF. If we can get someone who can defend and shoot the ball, such as Caron Butler (I know it's just a dream), I wouldn't hesitate to throw Odom in.

I'd trade him if we can solidify our PG spot.

I'm a big fan of Farmar but he's making mistakes that could cost us big games in the playoffs. So one trade I'd do would be something like Odom + Farmar + picks for Nocioni + Hinrich.

I don't know if the Bulls think thats fair though. I'm not good at making trade ideas.

Only if Ron Artest is on the other end.

But I think he's a free agent right?

Farmar is 21, he's bound to make these mistakes, but his improvement over one off-season shows the kid's work ethic.
He's definitely a keeper IMO.
Besides, Noc is not much of an outside shooter himself.

id trade him only if the price is right. As someone said, he is playing the best basketball of his career. Before thinking about trading or not, lets see how fits this lineup:

Kobe
Odom
Pau
Bynum

lakers are going to try to win a championship before worrying about this bs.

at this point i wouldn't trade him, wait and see how he plays when we have everyone healthy, but at least his trade value is getting better because of his recent play

if the lakers win the ship...keep the dude

he has played the best for the lakers this second half of the season.

The big point is getting Hinrich in that deal, who's probably cut out to be a triangle point and Nocioni is frankly not a great drop off in talent from LO in our system. He's probably a bit more tough defensively imo.

^ what would happen if bynum or gasol gets injured again? gasol does have a history of ankle injuries..and bynums mom did say bynum had knee?or ankle problems when he was younger..who would play power forward then?

I think that he would be content resigning for a cheaper deal around $8 or $9 million a year. He's been a pleasant surprise the second half of the season and I do not want to see him leave. His jumper went from being a huge question mark to almost automatic. Even when Bynum and Pau are back I see him playing a lot of power forward.

If anyone needs to go it's Luke. His contract is too long and we could definitely use that money elsewhere.

Lamar has been playing the best ball in his Laker career. I do not know if I would want to trade Boozer for Lamar right now. The problem is we have Gasol and Bynum that play in the key. And if add Boozer that would be the 3rd person, it will just make it too clogged up.

If Lamar plays the same way he was been playing he should get about 10 to 12 mil per season. I think after Kobe he was part of the reason why we won so many games, yes I did put him a head of Gasol for this past 20 games.

First, havve you watched him lately?? Give the man a break. Let's see if this is for real. He's playing out of his mind.

Second, you can not and I mean can not make that decision until next year. Though Bynum will return this year, he will not be the fully in rhythm Bynum. WE have to wait and see how Odom Bynum Gasol fit together. That will have to wait until next season, and that's when we can possibly bring it up.

But give the man a break. All we do is criticize him, for what we want him to be. Realize though without Lamar we're not where were at right now.

So bring that question back next January and we'll talk. But it's not fair to the team to think about that trade before we see how things mesh
