Lamar vs. Pau

With the recent play of Lamar, if he continues to be the monster he has been what do we do next year? We all know Kobe and Bynum arent going anywhere, but being that next year is Lamars contract year do we let him walk or trade him before his C expires. Or do we give him the PF spot and trade Pau for young cheap talent? We know we are not going to have the cash to keep both. Before Bynum's injury we were playing at a extremely high level with Odom at PF.

Thanks for your intelligent feedback. I also would like to thank you for directing my worries for me. I was just trying to get a opinion about our upcoming off season.

They will be able to keep all 4 but if they couldn't trading Odom would be the only option.
Bynum will get a big contract and Odom will probably take a 4 year 40 million dollar deal which we could afford.

The reason behind by thread was the fact that, after giving Bynum his new contract we will not be able to keep Lamar. After next season we cannot keep all 4, unless Lamar takes a big paycut.

Then either Lamar takes the paycut or gtfo. "Pau", "Gasol", and "trade" should be 50 words apart. Why would you want to trade Pau? I find your thought of trading Pau disturbing. Look I like Lamar and I would definately want to keep him if he keeps this up. I want the Lamar-Pau-Andrew trio. But no way are we trading

Pau

Never said I would trade Pau, I only stated it would have to be a option if we were to keep Lamar. I wouldnt want to trade Pau nor Odom, but before saying I would never trade Pau I'd like to see how he plays alongside Bynum. We all know Lamar played great next to Andrew.

classic case of "sell high".

I'd rather concern myself with putting up one of the best seasons in NBA history next year, making a run at 70+ wins and a championship, then worrying about what to do with Lamar.

This is a rare moment in time where we're primed to do something very, very special, to make history.

between lamar . . . pau . . . bynum . . . thats a no brainer.

a guy who is only now beginning to use his right hand for a layup. dribbling to his right. go anything opposite than his left hand. is not a guy who is willing to UP his game and learn his craft. bynum and pau still are like sponges and can learn more. lamar is unwilling to take his game to another level and improve his game.

so whats his use to us in the future?

Where not trading any of them and that is final. We need both Odom and Gasol. If Bynum or Gasol goes down Odom can slid right into the power forward spot, its great to have such a flexable roster. We started the season with Bynum and Odom then Gasol and Odom took over the Center and Power Forward spots.

SF:Ariza
PF:Odom
C:Bynum
SG:Bryant
PG:Fisher

then we went to:

SF:Radmanovic or Walton
PF:Odom
C:Gasol
SG:Bryant
PG:Fisher

soon to be

SF:Odom
PF:Gasol
C:Bynum
SG:Bryant
PG:Fisher

If Lamar keeps up his production from February and March with both Bynum and Gasol back, anything less than $12M per is a bargain.

I imagine Buss being willing to spend if we win championships. If not we could always ask Anschutz to chip in. LOL

wow EL...we keeping all 4..

lakers will not give bynum the max, and if he does, odom will except 8-11 mil per year...he already said he wants to win a ship and retire in LA...lets see how serious he is

Kobe, Odom, Gasol, Bynum FTMFW!!!

If Lamar keeps this up through the remainder of the season and into next, and proves he can play next to both Pau and Drew, there is absolutely no excuse not to keep him.

Not saying Buss will or won't be willing to do so; nobody knows how he'll react when he's staring at the gargantuan tax bill we'll have to pay for keeping our roster intact.

But at least we have this comment from the Times, on the public record for all eternity, to shove in his face if he doesn't open his wallet:

"Make money? I've been there and done that," (Buss) says, his voice soft, yet strong. "I'm doing this for the license plate."

The license plate?

"The one on my car that says, '9XWCHMP,' " he says. "I want to change it to 10."

Again, I can't predict what he'll do. But those don't sound like the words of a man who's going to get cold feet with such a great opportunity in our grasp.

I believe that too... the only other place where I could see odom wanting to go would be back to Miami to be with Wade and Riley. If we could get Artest (if he opts out), I would be willing to entertain a sign and trade, especially for picks around a young core of Farmar, Ariza and Bynum.

Bring in Sun Yue... His Jersey sales in China will offset the luxury tax... hahahaha

Yeah, just looking at the numbers and players.. there is no reason why would have to trade any of them in the near future.

You can give LO an extension and Bynum's his deal ( which will start around 12 million per ) and as long as this is a winner then there is no reason why would need to trade anyone.

Dr Buss can handle an 80/85 million dollar payroll if he is winning rings.

It all depends on how the 4 mesh and what heights they reach.

Couldn't agree more. If the chemistry is there (along with good health and a little bit of luck) I simply can't imagine that this team won't win a title or two.

And if that's the case, I simply can't imagine that the owner of one of the most profitable and valuable sports franchises in the world is going to put change ahead of championships.

We will be able to keep Odom because we won't have to pay him 13M a year. Nobody will give him that kind of money. It will be noted by other GM's around the league that his numbers have declined every season sinco 2003, and also that he has never been able to be the number two guy. I dont think Odom keeps up this place. I think he was fortunate to play the Warrriors twice in a row, but he won't do this against the Celtics.

We have to sign Ronny and and Sasha this off season, and when we re-sign Odom next offseason it will be for something like 6-8 million for 2 or 3 years. I don't see him getting a much bigger contract than that. I think this team we'll stay intact for 4-5 years, barring some catastrophic injury.
