I actually found this site from a poster on General Board , and so I decided to check it out and I found a lot of interesting things about it .
Like it has in-depth stats for all the NBA teams and players, that shows the performance levels of each team and individual players covering plus/minus numbers, top 5-man units, shot selection , shot clock usage, production by position, clutch play statistics and more!


I am a bit confused as far as the on and off court , so if some of you statistical guru's with your statistical analyses can help (Miles , SedaleT. Phil etc ) I would appreciate it .

nice find, interesting look, especially @ the 5-man units stats, and PER which I never understood but respect the number crunchers who do....

Been using that site a lot. I like how you can use it to see defensive efficiency impact, defensive efg% impact, production per position etc.

Be wary of the PER numbers though because they don't use the same formula for possessions as knickerblogger, espn (hollinger) and basketball reference.

The "on" number is what the Lakers produce with Odom on the floor. If he has a +7.9 (we're looking at the front page of the Lakers I presume) that means that the Lakers outscore the opponent by 4 points when Odom plays. If he then has an "off" number of +4.6 that means the Lakers outscore the opponent by 1 point when Odom sits. The "net" number is strictly On - Off, so in this case it would be 7.9 - 4.6 = 3.3 which would be Odom's impact as judged by +/- stats. What I find interesting is that Kobe is the only one with a negative off court total. That means that the only time (over the course of the season) we generally play losing basketball is when Kobe is on the bench. That's what MVP is all about IMO.

If you look at the production part of the table, that's PER (do note that the stats 82games has isn't the same as Hollinger, so their PER numbers are too high. Go to knickerblogger.net and look up PER there to get the correct numbers for offense). The defensive PER is what a player gives up to the opposing team's player. 15 is the league average for PER, so if you're under that, it generally means you're doing a great job on D (note that there are factors like who you defend who come into play here also).

Now, if you click on a player profile and look up Points per 100 possessions (can look at both offensively and defensively) with said player on and off and impact, you get an even better idea of how the team performs with said player IMO.

What irritates me a lot with 82games is that they don't use the same formula all the other sites uses so comparing their stats directly to other sites doesn't work properly.

That site is great for team stats and individual stats btw as it uses the same formulas Hollinger uses. There are a lot of great stat sites, but 82games is probably the best one overall despite their stats not being directly comparable to stats on other sites.
