Barkley: Odom better than Allen, Manu

Post#1 » by Tommy Trojan » Thu Mar 27, 2008 5:36 pm

TNT's Charles Barkley says that no other team in the NBA has a third-best player better than the Lakers' versatile Lamar Odom. Fans of the Celtics and Spurs probably would disagree, Odom's stellar productivity in Pau Gasol's absence notwithstanding. Ray Allen, the Celtics' third-leading scorer, is an eight-time All-Star. Manu Ginobili, not even a starter, is the Spurs' leading scorer.

Charles is a smart man, he knows what he is talking about.

This goes out to all you Laker and Odom haters, I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!

If Odom keeps up what he has been doing lately I dont have a problem putting him on those guys' level... thats a big if though

I can easily say that those other teams dont have a 4th option as good as Andrew Bynum though

i don't think anyone would deny that odom has the skills to be better, but i doubt his heart and desire sometimes. manu and allen can get their points, and they are consistent. odom is not.

I'd say Manu is the Spurs best player right now. if not it would easily be Duncan, manu then Parker as a third. So i don't know where the comparison to Manu came from. Allen i can see as being a definite third option.

In terms of talent ? Yes ! In terms of consistency ? No yet.

But something has changed in Lamar for sure. He definitely looks more confident taking the right spots as well as being a monster on the glass. His jump shot !? He really shoots well ! The middle-range jump-shot is getting in ! That's what I like about him thish'year !

I'm really happy for Lamar ! He really deserves that ! He's strong ! His life hasn't been by far sweet up to now, we know it.

GO LAMAR !

Lets say Lamar was on the Spurs instead of Manu and Duncan plays center full time

C Duncan
PF Lamar
SF Bowen
SG Finley
PG Parker

Not bad. They would own teams on the boards

They would also lose their most dynamic offensive weapon, an outstanding defensive irritant and the player they give all their end-game responsibilities.

Parker is probably their No. 3 this year, and considering he's won a Finals MVP, it's a moot comparison with Lamar.

yeah, parker is clearly the spurs third best player right now, and while i might argue parker > odom, its not absurd to argue the opposite. where the manu comparison came from, i dont know.

I think if anything thats whats gonna put us over the top. But can he play against the other top teams in the west with the consistency he has been playing with? Thats another story. When Bynum and Pau get back he's gonna have a lot less rebounds.

So your saying Amare and Marion of last season would have outplayed Duncan and Lamar up front.

I think the Spurs dominate up front and that's where the series pretty much ends. Parker will continue to blow right by Nash and kick to Bowen and Finley for 3's.

I dont see the Suns of last season beating the Spurs with Lamar, Duncan and Parker. Lamar already gets the best of Marion, now put Duncan at center. It's over

I would say nobody has a 4th man like us but people have better third best players espially if you count the Wizards.

I feel that Odom could be the second or even the best player on any team, its just that he is content with his role, just playing calm and to his own pace. When he first came out of high school, I thought this guy was going to become a beast...like a Magic in comming, but whatever im happy with what he can do now.

 People never give Manu his due. Lamar may be a better rebounder, but he doesn't really even touch Manu in terms of ability to impact the game.

LO is better than Allen imo, but not better than Manu. Manu comes with the complete package and brings it every night as teh 6th man. doesnt need to start yet brings everything to the table consistently. Kind of what barbosa did for the suns last season, this season he just fell off the charts. LO does rebound better but doesnt assert himself into positions for him to score and take advantage of his man. there are a lot of matchups where his length can be used but he just doesnt use it. he can have great games for us its just the other times hes just no where to be found. one word.inconsistent.

no offense spacejam but LO sometimes looks like your avitar but without the dreads.

How and why do we take what Charles says so seriously?

The guy bet that Yao Ming would never be a good player in this league, and had to kiss Kenny's ass. Kenny brought in a donkey as a joke, and Barkley went ahead and kissed the ass's ass, which goes to show he didn't even get the joke. If an ass's ass could have an ass, Barkley would have kissed it too.

But no, Odom is not better than Ray Allen or Manu Ginobili in terms of talent or anything. I mean, he's got to make the all-star team once or at least have one full season of playing at a high level. He's had a terrific couple months, no doubt, but then again, Odom's problem has always been consistency.

Barkley's a terrible judge of talent, probably because he has always shown bias for big men, and probably because he doesn't even watch many games.

The guy can't even sit through TNT games once a week.

I don't think we need Barkley to tell us how great Odom has been playing for us.
