Ariza's game: How it affects the Lakers

Its been so long since we have seen #3 suit up for the Lakers. And it also seems that not a lot has been talked about his comeback and how important it will be for the team, if important at all. So what are some positives of his game that you know? Will he contribute in the playoffs? How bright of a future?





i would love to see a player like him with a shot like 'the machine's'..

Pretty sure Ariza will never develop a shot like The Machine's. Shooters aren't made, they're born.

He's more of a fast break player. Get's the steal and runs the wing for the dunk. I suppose his man D is good too if he puts his mind to it. In the last couple of games he playing he was actually hitting his jumpers.

He was making some corner 3 point shots and a 2 pointer off of a curl at the top of the key. If he practices his jumper over the summer the Lakers should look to resign him.

Ariza's form is actually pretty good and it looks like it can turn into something pretty consistent.

Ariza would be our best defensive option at the three, especially against half court sets. We don't need his offense, we just need him to stop somebody on the wing. Anything he can give us would be an upgrade over Newble, Odom, Walton, or Radmanovic defensively.

Strongly disagree. Anyone can learn to shoot as long as they put in the effort and practice at it. Look at Amare. Before he got injured he had no shot. All he was known for was dunking, alley-oops and put backs. During his year off for recovery he worked on his shot. Now he has a great mid range game, free throw percentage, and even has a three point shot now.

Ariza would be a great asset to the Lakers offensively if he developed a mid-range jumpshot which he does not have yet IMO, and as a slasher taking the ball to the hoop. The triangle is perect for players like him who are able to move without the ball and shoot mid-range shots.

He is already a great asset defensively as a perimeter defender. We sorely miss him in that department which I believe is his greatest contribution to our team.

Ariza is an exploder and a cutter. Great for someone like Gasol who's playing high and looking for the open man. Great for Kobe who's getting double/triple-teamed.

Ariza can also beat his defender off the dribble for a wide open lane to the basket with a strong finish. He'll also make our fastbreaks much more efficient.

I remember the Christmas game against phoenix. Nash was bringing it up the court and they ran that play when the man on the sideline does a really fast back-cut to the basket and in this case it was barbosa who made the cut on trevor and it looked like he had beaten trevor and had a wide open lay-up but out of nowhere trevor's long arm swatted the ball the hell out of there. I jumped out my seat, so used to seeing that as another two easy points.

i remember the games we had with him at the beginning of the season before he got injured and he looked very good in those. he would be like our barbosa except tougher better d but no 3 pt shot.. definitely the type of player you want in games against warriors or suns or blazers

+1 That is the number one game that sticks in my head when I think of his defense. AI was killing us that game, then Ariza came in and shut him down.

He's athletic, very athletic ! That's what we need more than anything. His athleticvism allows him to get to the hoop easier, faster, also scoring fast-break points. I won't say anything about defense because we know of what he is able to do in defense.
