jordan farmar - tough month of march

Post#1 » by dockingsched » Wed Apr 2, 2008 5:15 am

jordan's play took a serious dive in the month of march.

his shooting all around took a nose dive, including his FT shooting. in january, he shot a very good 42.4 % from three. in february it went down to 36% from 3 and in march it was a horrible 30%. despite the struggle, he shot the 3 ball at the same rate all 3 months.

his defense hasn't been all that great either and got benched in the washington game because of it.

i don't think farmar is as a good of a shooter as he looked at the start of the season, i hope farmar himself realizes this soon. he should be able to get to the line a lot more often than he does.

your thoughts on farmar's game, his struggles, and the future outlook?

He's still just a sophomore... Last season he maxed out at around 40-50 games then he started to decline... This season it was about 60... Its usually a players third year (out of college) that you get a realistic idea of how their career will unfold as you finally get an entire consistent season out of them... He's just tired, thats all... Just hit that wall... The playoffs will probably be good for him since we get at least 1 day off after every game

He is starting to peev me with his no defense, and his kind of selfish attitude (on the court). Its okay though, he's young and he has a special abiility with his quicknesss... no one thought he would have this impact this early anyway. With him getting older, he will mature in his play ... hopfully. I know I was at the Lakers vs Memphis game and he was pissing me off with how he would completley ignore Kobe.

This may be a pretty big problem though, with Fish hurt. Sasha - Kobe backcourt is what we are probably going to see a lot more of in the playoffs if Fish isn't able to be effective.

In a way I'm kind of glad Bynum got injured because it may cause him to be fully rested for the playoffs... If you guys remember last year, Bynum had about 30 good games then basically disappeared for the rest of the season (remember he only played like 33 games in high school so 30 games WAS an entire season for him considering it was basically his rookie year last year)... I was scared it would happen this year after about 50 games, but he went down... So hopefully after he gets used to playing again he will be on that same level he was on in January

He was bound for mental fatigue after shouldering quite a responsibility all season. Time to turn it back on, though.

I see him doing that for the rest of the season, though. At least the final five games leading up to the playoffs.

He knows that just around the corner it's for real

i think lately everyone has started to notice his sort of cold shoulder attitude towards kobe on the court. i personally don't mind since its nice to see players not defer to kobe at all times, but sometimes jordan just chucks bad shots when kobe is clearly a better option.

im more concerned with his defense, which really hasn't been that good. i agree with nicka however, that farmar is probably hitting a physical wall right now. makes sense that his shot would suffer without fresh legs. i just wish he played smarter, something he was doing in the 1st half. he takes 3's at the wrong time (fast break 3 last game) and has been playing dumb defense.

Farmar worked very hard on his shot over the summer. I give him a ton of credit for actually working on becoming an outside threat.
I think, like many others on this forum that he is simply tired and has hit the wall. That does not mean that he is not a good shooter all of a sudden.

Young players are usually able to work on one or two aspects of their game over the summer.
He made long strides from his freshman to sophemore years, and I think we should give him credit. It was because of his development that we were able to ship Crittenton to Memphis and get Pau.

Hopefully, he'll work on his stamina and foot work on defense to be able to stay in front of his man over the coming summer and years to come.

I'd like to see him drive to the basket more. Maybe a 3 if it's within the proper context. He's seemed to rely too much on his jumper in the middle of the season and now that he seems to be hitting some sort of wall he's become a lot less effective.

But he is a competitor, I think he'll shape up. I'd like Phil to give him more responsibility though. I think that Jordan's always been the leader on his team and now he's sort of the 7th or 8th guy...

I think Jordan will step up to the challenge, just like he did when we drafted Crit. You better watch your back Farmar, because Sun Yue is comin!

I hope Jordan hasn't become complacent after Critt's departure. Both of them had a real tug of war for those back up minutes at the start of the season and strangely enough Jordan's game hasn't been that great since then. Thats just my imagination though, farmar is ultra competitive and he'll be back soon. Just needs a spark to ignite that passion again. May be that roughing up by Kobe could make a difference or Phil will have to pull out one of his zen tactics to build up his confidence.

Not too worried....Jfar will always be a "key" contributor to our team. The absence of our #2 and #3 options, I think led to some of our guys (including him) pressing to do more than what their roles typically call for (eg - take the first available open shot instead of being patient and moving the ball to find shots in rhythm)

I do think his defensive energy has been lacking. Early in the year, he came in, got steals, pushed the ball and got to the rim more so than lately. We miss that...

Once Bynum and Gasol come back, Farmar, Vlad and Sasha will get more open looks and you have to think shooting percantages should improve.

Farmar is probably dead tired, he practiced all off season and now he just needs a rest. But he'll get fired up for the stretch run.

this is an easy explanation... 2 words: March Madness
Sasha Vujacic = The Phail Machine = The Ring Blocker

Trade Sasha before he ruins the Lakers next season.

I still sense there's some tension between him and Kobe after Kobe went off at him after the Memphis game. Kobe seems to be trying to diffuse it though.

^ i doubt that.

He for sure has hit the wall. a couple clutch three's here and there and you'll all forget about the month of March.

it's this month that matters. i have faith in him.
