I can see the Lakers making a run at '96 Bulls 72 win season.
This team is young, deep, and getting better every game.

It's not THAT crazy considering you guys got gasol midseason and the games he's missed, and then consider the games bynum has missed.
If everyone was on the team healthy from the beginning, I think they'd get close.

The 72-10 season is a big reach, if history teaches anything, but still this team could improve it's W/L column by a whole lot.
Just look at the schedule: http://www.basketball-reference.com/tea ... games.html
Out of the top of my head, these are the games we could've just as easily won if we didn't have these nagging injuries. With a team that would be used to playing with each other (that will be the case next year). Okay, these are the games:
vs Houston
@ Milwaukee
vs New Jersey
vs Orlando
@ Golden State
@ Cleveland
@ Dallas
vs Cleveland
vs Detroit
vs Atlanta
vs Sacramento
That's 12 games right there in which we were on the bring of winning (except for the Dallas one I guess) and had very unfortunate circumstances (last second shots, stupid turnovers). This is all hypothetically speaking, but save for two games against SA and Boston and 1 against NOH and Utah, we didn't lose in a bad way, being blown out...
But that's just my two cents.
vs Memphis

A 60-win season is VERY attainable this season, had we not lost to teams like Charlotte and Memphis... so I'd say a 70-win season is very possible next year. That being said, I say let's not hype things up just yet.... (see: Chicago Bulls) If I recall correctly, they were the favorites to be contenders THIS year.. look what happened. Too much expectations can't be good.

The reason I have said this team if healthy will be the best team off alltime is because I truley believe if they are all healthy they will have a 72 win game season. Now why I say they will be the best team is because if they do do that then it trumps the Jordan Bulls because when they won 72 the competition was seriously nowhere near what it is now in the West. I think if those Bulls were in the West they wouldn't even have the best record.
Now this clearly depends on there health but I believe they will be healhthy next year. Kobe will have10 fingers again, Bynum will be 100% and Gasol on this team I see him working hard in the offseason which is something he hasn't done and he will be healhty. Odom has been great this year health wise and I believe he will be again next year.
Even if my worst fear comes true and he doesn't start Bynum next year he will come to his sences when he realizes Bynum is the second best player, there best defensive player and a top 3 center at least and he will start him early next year if not this year in the playoffs.
Next year
Bynum- Allstar
Gasol- Allstar
Odom- Allstar even if he isn't in the as game
Kobe- Best player ever in prime
Fisher- Hopefully he stays healthy but I think if they give Farmar the starting job if Fisher misses time Farmar might even be better.
Even averages 9 points in 20 minutes and as a starter I see 14 and 6 with ease. Sasha is also a great backup.
We all know how good there coach and bench is.
I really want them to win a championship this year but this will be the first year that if they don't I won't be ipset as long as everybody looks healthy and Bynum and Gasol clearly play well together and that is because I know next year they will be the champs for sure.
I still can't believe that in the same year Bynum went from project to dominate Center and we would get Gasol in the same year and Kobe doesn't want to be traded and Jordan Farmar would be so improved.
I love this team.
The only thing I could think happening is these 4 players are expensive so I could see the Lakers either trading Odom for Artest or trading Odom for a not as good as him sf probably like a Battier because that would help Kobe, cut down on cost and it would give a better fit.
I am really starting to like the new Odom (wearing his Jersey now) so I hope he can fit in with the twin towers and Kobe. I think the only thing would be guarding 3's but all he has do to is take a step back put up his arms and do his best and with Bynum blocks and Gasol it should be enough.
More importantly I believe they will be able to keep Odom if he is willing to sign for less like a 4 year 40 million because that would be worth it but it would be less then he could get although he is inconsistant so maybe he will sign a 4 year 40 million dollar deal.
If they were to sign Odom they would have to get rid of some not so great deals like Radman and they would also have to maybe not keep Ariza who would make more then Newble and get players like him.
They should keep Bynum,Gasol,Odom,Kobe,Farmar,Fisher,Sasha,Ronny and trade the rest of the players for expiring contracts and just have vets who will sign for cheap like Newble and they could keep the 4 allstars. Witht this new team I officially consider Odom an allstar and we need to keep him unless we can get a Battier type role player.

Pau/Bynum-like Injuries this season are just as likely to happen next season.
Lets not get too ahead of ourselves, given this team's injury-riddled past.

No doubt, the Lakers looked stacked this season and next. But even if they dodge the injuries that plague the NBA, the West is full if great teams. San Antonio is still the champs with New Orleans, Utah, Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, Denver and Golden State all taking a bite out of the W column. Oden should be playing in Portland and that will change the view of the rim when facing the Blazers:) If Brand and Kaman are healthy the Clips will do their best to beat the Lakers when they go on the road and face the Clippers (Ha ha). Oh, and all of us up in Sacto are waiting for Petrie to pull off a deal where he trades expirings for one of the top Big men in the league. Don't laugh, it could happen

If The Celtics being in the Eastern Conf, and having 3 HOF's on there roster, and they can't get 72, Why do you think we can get it? Just a question.

This team is scary good now. On offense that is.
I think they will have a good chance for 60 wins next year, even factoring in an injury to Gasol or Bynum.
If Kobe gets injured, I don't think they'll win 60.
To get to the 70 win plataeu, I think you have to be able to shut teams down defensively. You have to be in the top 5 in defense.
This team is no where near that in terms of defense and ability to shut people down.

f the Celtics win out, they can get 67... And they were relatively healthy all year (KG and Ray missed less then 10 games)... 67 should be attainable for us considering we are younger and deeper than them... But like I said, everything has to go perfect for us in order to get 72... Meaning none of our top 8 players can miss more than 10 or so games
If you think about it, if we win out we will have 58 wins... while only having Pau for 27 games and Bynum for 37 (if he plays in the last 2)... Bynum will probably be better next year than he was this year as well... But as long as we can get at least 70 games out of those two guys instead of 27 and 37, that should account for at least 12 or so more victories

Adding TWO all star big men for an entire season as opposed to less than 40 games each, to a team that is going to win 55-58 games will definitely hurt our cause I'm sure...
But anyways, enjoy the rest of your fantastic season and have fun watching Kwame
