realistically, who deserves the MVP?

Mamba is having a great year and the Lakers are the top of the West, but Chris Paul is having a sensational year as well, and his Hornets are as big of a surprise as our own Lakeshow. In my opinion, he already can be matched with the best PG's on history, quite impressive, considering he's 22.
Let's also not forget the impact KG has on the Celtics. Maybe the numbers are not overwhelming, but his presence and contribution made the Celtics the team they are.

Mamba is the most deserving of the three historically, but the award is presented for the current season only, of course.

Basically, this Big Three are the front runners for the award, unless someone thinks of a better candidate.

I would like to get some honest opinions, because personally speaking, Im having some hard time to decide, all three were phenomenal.

Cheers.

Mr. Kobe Braynt in more ways than one, there should be no questions about that.

well, care to elaborate and expand it a bit ?

I mean, Mamba IS a deserving candidate, no doubt, but so are Paul and KG.
Does the fact that Mamba is a Laker makes it easier to decide?

If I were not a Lakers fan, I'd still find it hard not to vote for Kobe. It's a very tight race, no doubt about it. Good thread.

The main question to me is, "How would the respective teams do without each candidate?" That might take KG out of the discussion, because they'd still be up top in the East.

Kobe gets my vote for what he did off the court as well as on it. The turnaround in his commitment and attitude has been remarkable, and without it, the Lakers would likely be in total and complete disarray, maybe not even making the playoffs.

CP3 is a tighter squeeze, but I think they'd be better off without him than Lakers would be without Kobe. These are all speculations and opinions of mine, just like all journalist votes will be.

kg just flat out doesn't have the numbers.
yeah, he made a huge impact, but everyone on that team is playing amazingly well - even when kg is not there.
he had to put up way better numbers to get m.v.p. in that situation.
dpoy ? probably.
coy for rivers ? possibly.
kg mvp ? nope. sorry. too much help all around him.

paul - great numbers, great leadership, great record, BUT - the least amount of significant injuries of all top teams, and still a choke in the last few games that led to them missing out on the top record in the west.

kobe ?
obviously the great numbers are there.
but leading his team to the best record in the most competitive confrence in nba history - while battleing a HORRIBLE injury pleague ???
that is down right unthinkable !
also, amazing leadership - on and off the court - even back when he wanted nothing more than to get traded.
AND playing with an injury that requires surgery for months - to make sure the team doesn't slide out of the playoff picture (and ends up getting the 1st seed...), while still continuing to play at the same amazing level ?

THAT is not just the description of this season's m.v.p. - that is the defenition of the most deserving m.v.p. in years !

Paul is an amazing player and is having an amazing year...

He has solid help on that team though. They might not be all-stars but they're Odom-type non-all-stars on the verge...

Does he make them better? Probably... Is he the 'Heart' of that team? I'm not ready to say that yet. He needs to throw the team on his back and single-handedly change the outcome of the game with his will...

Kobe has a better cast but only if they're healthy... They haven't been all year...

His will and drive to win, made the team what it was in the beginning of the season and he beat some contenders pretty much single-handedly when Gasol, Bynum and Ariza were down.

I'm the first to point out Kobe flaws but make no mistake, the Lakers, even with the current cast of players go exactly how far Kobe wants to go and leads them to...
Anybody who watched the Olympic trials can attest to that. USA will win the Gold if Kobe wants them too...

Add to that, giving Paul the MVP for his role on his team this season would be extremely duplicitous in the face of Kobe being Snubbed the last 2 seasons.

My opinion matters not at all though... And I hve just about ZERO respect for the opinions of those whose opinions do... Writers...

kobe deserves MVP... realistically even jordan should have won more MVP awards... but realistically who will get MVP??? that is most likely chris paul. Why? Well it seems like the voters like to stray from the "best player" and look for someone who is having more impact from last year.

Here's what I posted on the General Board.

semi-sentient wrote:shobe_81 ... my vote goes to Kobe for the following reasons:

1) He's had a great all around year from an individual standpoint. He played great on both ends of the floor from start to finish, and some of his recent play has propelled him above CP3 in my book.

2) He's had his best year as a team leader, and one of his best seasons as a team player. Despite all the off-season turmoil, he has pulled the team together and everyone now has the same mindset -- win a championship.

3) He's kept the Lakers together and playing well despite injuries (including injuries to himself that would have sidelined others), roster changes, etc. In short, he is the largest part of the reason why the Lakers overachieved. Hell, I had them winning 53 games this season IF they stayed healthy. Kobe messed around and led them to 56, possibly 57 wins.

4) He now meets the "Best Player on a Top 3 Team" criteria that has been used in past seasons. While that particular criteria goes a little out of the window this year with such a competitive conference (and a lack of competition in the eastern conference), it certainly doesn't hurt that he's led the Lakers to what looks like the #1 seed in the most (or one of the most) competitive conferences in the history of the NBA. In prior years, this is why I never had Kobe as my MVP. The team simply wasn't good enough.

Being lazy, so I am stealing your words but I agree. This takes nothing away from the other deserving candidates.
