How will Bynum injury affect extension?

Post#1 » by acion » Wed Apr 16, 2008 5:26 pm

With the Bynum vs. Howard discussion, it made me think about contract extension. Bynum is up, do you think his injury history makes the Laker leery about extending him for top dollar, his agents less likely to push for close to max dollars, or do you think all parties will pretend it didn't happen?

For all his promise, the slowness of his healing, his age, and his size, makes me concerned that he will have chronic injuries. So if you're Mitch do you use the injury to lowball?

i'm sure it will be brought up but if the lakers don't max him, another team will be willing to. and the lakers know that

I think a 4 year 38 mil deal is fair (8, 9 10, 11)

or 5 year, 50 mil (8, 9, 10, 11, 12)

Pretty sure that Drew isn't actually going to be a free agent. He will just be eligible for an extension.

+1. Anything more than that is overpaying. D12 got his contract after putting up amazing numbers and practically staying injury free all through his career till now.

yeah, it's extension time but if he doesn't like what's on the table he can become a free agent after next season............someone will be willing to max him out if that happens. hopefully the lakers will make him happy

No doubt somebody's going to have no problem throwing cash at a talented young big. But I just don't see him commanding a max contract at this stage, even from us.

Not like it's stopped people before (see Rashard Lewis) but he simply hasn't earned it. You'd basically be paying top dollar for a relatively unproven commodity, and that's a big, big risk in light of his knee issues.

There not getting under the cap anyway but I think this injury will save them some money if they get him for 6 year 60-65 million. It is the perfect amount. If Bynum stayed healthy a Howard contract just like for Howard is a bargain. Now this is fair and I don't know if Bynum will risk 60 million like Iggy.
