With Bynum out for the rest of the season, can the Lakers win it all? I think that was a smokescreen by Jackson. I actually think BYnum would play against the Celtics if the Lakers go to the Finals. If it wasn't I still think they can win it all. Pau seems to be the missing piece.

We can, but not as easily as some on this board think. Our defense is still bad, we do tend to rely too much on the 3. Bynum's D is what I think we will miss the most.

+1 we still have huge lapses on defense, and Bynum makes this team a top defensive squad.

it'll be much, much, much, much more difficult without bynum. i won't say it can't be done but i don't like our matchups with the suns, celts or spurs without him.

I think we could. But without Bynum we would be the underdogs in every series except vs denver.

I wouldn't go that far. With homecourt, we'd top Utah and Phoenix, but probably not the Spurs since they are the defending champs.

It would be a lot harder, we could beat Utah, Phoenix will be TOUGH, but with homecourt we have a good shot of beating them. I think it would be rather impossible to beat the Celts without Bynum.

i think they can beat the suns, but celtics would be hard, but if they play well they def could

ha just imagine how nasty this team will be next year (barring any injuries, which seems impossible judging by these last few years)

So Bynum must have tore some ligaments up...dislocated kneecap (partially) bone bruise and out for the year....give me a #@#$#$ break.

YES.

Why not? We lost to Boston twice when Bynum was in the lineup. Bynum got outplayed by Kendrick Perkins both times. The question isn't, can we beat Boston without Bynum, the question is, can we beat Boston at all?

It'll be tough, but anything can happen in a 7 game series. The Celtics have the consistently tough defense, and we couldn't crack that nut this year.

But, in my opinion, we do have a chance.

First of all, we have Pau Gasol. Pau's played well against KG in the past, IIRC. I'm not sure if they'd be matched up together, but Pau adds a major offensive weapon the Celtics didn't have to deal with before.

Secondly, the Celtics didn't face us when we were playing with the great ball movement that's become our calling card. So we need to play aggressively and unselfishly. That's how we can beat the Celtics, the sum has to be greater than the parts.

Thirdly, Lamar Odom needs to play big. Whether he's guarding KG, Perkins, or Paul Pierce, he needs to be able to hold his own. That's a tall task, but considering how he's playing with a newfound consistency and sense of purpose, the New Odom makes us a MUCH tougher team.

Lastly, role players. The big Three in Boston is tough, but they've got some terrific role players. That could be the difference in the series, guys like Perkins, Cassell, Posey, Powe. They've got some serious experience as well.

If Turiaf can bang with Perkins and limit his impact on the game, if Sasha can harass Ray Allen, hit some key threes, if Farmar can be that Sixth Man that we need consistently, we can match up with the Celts very well.

Lastly, we got Kobe. If the other Lakers can compete with their counterparts, there's just nobody on the Celtics that can match what Kobe can do, especially when he's playing at the top of his game.

Bynum or without Bynum, we have a chance against Boston. No excuses. We shouldn't be afraid of anybody.

first off, that is true as mentioned above. the suns are done. but secondly, its all about throwing as many live and active bodies out there as we can. in a 7 game series, there will be games where our bigs will get into foul trouble. that means trouble if we dont have them out there to produce. now heres the big key, can you imagine pau gasol having to sit the bench due to having 4 or 5 fouls? WE WOULD BE IN GIGANTIC TROUBLE! and believe this, tim duncan is a master at racking up fouls against his opponent. he is after all considered the best power forward in the history of the game.

but this is where a bynum comes in against a duncan or like guys they have in boston for example.

he not only takes fouls. our depth wears on teams, and his 7 foot frame and shot blocking ability come in handy. we would have to wear teams down and force them to be jump shooting teams. and lets look at the facts of the whole year, we are absolutely giving up waaaay too many points. most of that stuff comes from the layup drill down the middle of the lane. but with an extra lengthy body like bynum, we cut that crap out.

now if we force teams to be a jump shooting team. and it doesnt matter. whether boston or san antonio, THEY WILL NOT SURVIVE! the spurs dont even like doing that. and i trust our perimeter guys to be there alot quicker.

Yes we can, no doubt, actually i think we are favorites in the West even without Bynum, i dont see the Spurs on past years level.
The question would be, can we beat the Celtics without Bynum? Thats the problem, i think the Celtics should beat us in a 7 games series but they'll have to play and once you are on the court everything can happen.

Lakers can, but it would be more difficult. As Utah Jazz fan I think your team is fav in next series, but without Bynun we have chance.
With Bynum Lakers 80% Jazz 20%
Without Bynum Lakers 60% Jazz 40%
