Is Gasol really a PF?
I am wondering since 2006 in World Champs... He introduced the phrase 'Center-with-skills-beyond-rebounding' in the outside-US pool of players. I remember always him to be dominant in the 5... Has he ever played at the 4? Can he have some 36-14-8 matches as our starting PF??? Will affect our offence those big guys trying to run the ball? I have heavy concerns about fisher-bryant-odom-gasol-bynum to be so dominant... In Game 1 against Denver I saw a team that is very quick, talented and 'showtimed'... Concerns about chemistry after Bynum return at lineup?? IS Pau Really a PF?????

in the triangle offense that coach jackson uses, sleeker inbetweeners, with multiple skillsets in the 3,4,5 positions absolutely kill opponents. jackson used those types in chicago. he had a center, that wasnt a traditional 5. they could shoot. pass. run the floor. and teams could not defend his teams because they could hit you from all angles of the court.
pau gasols skillsets are like that. weve had shaq for several years, and he was primarily lodged in the middle. but pau is on the inside. he can hit the bunny jumper from the middle of the key. he can hit from the freethrow line. he can hit the shot from the elbow. and even a little extended from there. THAT IS PERFECT for this style of offense. so he can play multiple areas and positions in this offense.
we could not ask for a better heaven sent gift than we got from pau

He was a PF when he arrived to the league, no doubt, even he was able to play as an SF, but nowadays i couldnt say, he keeps saying he prefers to play as a PF but i think his body and movements are now proper of a pure Center, and i dont really know how he will acclimatate to the PF position when Bynum returns, actually im also concerned, this team will improve in defense no doubt but offensively i doubt they will have the freshness they show nowadays.

I think Pau can adjust to being a PF same as Lamar switching to SF. My slight concern is with a starting 5 of Fish, Kobe, LO, Pau, Bynum, there really isn't a pure shooter to streach the defense. Sure Kobe, Fish, LO can all shoot form the outside but we will be missing someone like Radman, who's only real job is to shoot 3's. Game 1 vs Denver, we had slight problems against the zone, until we finally adjusted in the second half. You need shooters against zone defenses.
I know its a very different situation, but some of you should remember when we had Elden Campbel and Shaq as our starting PF and C. They didn't know how to play together and never really adjusted. They took each others space and eventually Elden was shipped out. Now I know Gasol and Bynum probably have more hoops IQ than Elden, but there are similarities in the situation.
Having said that I still can't wait for Bynum to get back to know just how good we really are.

Pau Gasol is just as much a pf as Tim Duncan. If you could throw Tim Duncan in with Bynum and the rest of our team would you? My point is that on offense Pau and Duncan arent that far off from eachothers game. From the midrange shot to being able to play with they're backs to the basket, being able to take guys off the dribble and best of all they are both awesome passers.
Both Tim and Pau have the ability to play center and power forward. Pau runs the floor pretty darn well and is such an unselfish player, between Lamar and Pau Bynums job is going to be a lot easier on offense.

actually, you did the right thing by lumping them together and not cluttering up the board.
as for the ? about him being a pf
i think he is and would play very well next to a true center. but he's versitle enough to play well at C if needed.

And AI played football when he was young.. The thing is I am concerned about not have seen it in Pau yet...Dominant C with skills,ok. PF can he play better than THAT Lamar? Bcs Lamar can actually play better SF than any SF in our roster...the guy is sometimes our playmakers, nobody should have concerns about LO!He can do everything!
