Part of me, most of me, is happy for Kobe winning the MVP.
It was his this season, over Paul, no doubt about it.

However, after having said that...

Another small, tiny, part of me is a little scared or even upset he did win the MVP because...I am worried

Will this go to his head? He's never won the MVP in his entire NBA career.

Will Kobe relax a bit? Perhaps take his foot off the gas pedal...maybe bask in the glory that is the regular season MVP award.

I know it's not likely, but does anyone else see Kobe winning the MVP changing anything?

No, i don't think so, if anything he is gona be even more motivated. I can see where you are coming from but he is matured enough to make shure that doesnt effect his game.

Kobe is motivated by the desire to win, no MVP award will change that. This guy has three rings and yet he still wants to get another ring at all cost. I wouldn't worry about him losing his motivations just because he is now finally the MVP.

He'll have a fantastic Game 1 against the Jazz. Book it.

If anything, this award will make him play even harder (if that is even possible.) I guarantee that he will say (and believe) something along the lines, that the MVP award, although an honor will mean nothing unless we win the championship!

If he was David Robinson, he would relax and let the Jazz walk all over his team in the second round. But this is Kobe, one of the toughest S.O.B's in the history of sports.

Well one thing is sure, some guy on realgm won't be cutting off his balls.

i bet kobe is more concerned about winning games than winning the mvp

there's no way he takes his foot off the gas pedal. my guess is that after the season he's going to need help from tony to unstick it from the floor board

Kobe's already established that the MVP award isn't as big a deal to him as it is to other players/media outlets. He's made it quite clear that the one award he's truly focused on happens to be named Larry.

Shutup, that's the first thing that came to my mind when I read your thread question. Sorry man but honestly I don't think you have watched the Kobester long enough to be making such a thread. No one has a bigger ego in the L. That's part of what makes a great player. You have to have irod clad confidence to be the best in the game. If he didn't get it this year after getting that #1 slot after all his seasons of excellence, beating out NO inthe final weeks for the top spot he was never going to get it. He would have been the Susan Lucci of the NBA, and they might toss one at him when he wasn't the best in the L, when he's on the downside as a pity vote. This was the season. If anything it's a relief for me, and I'm sure for him.

Now as great as KB24 was I think CP3 would have won if NO got the #1 slot bringing NO from dirt to promanance, truly amazing, but the LAL and the Kobester really stepped on the gas down the stretch. There has been little to no wavering this season, so consistant.

I agree with the above poster that this will make him play smarter than in years past, more like an MVP than in years past, as far as doing it all, rather than just scoring the most.

That play the other day vs DEN where he was on the top of the key and dribbled 5 feet left pulling the d and then a 2 pass to Luck Walton in the corner kersplash!. He would have just shot that last year, an MVP play; one of many.

This is again more of a relief than anything. KB24 MVP, I love the sound of that!

I think Kobe will continue to aact the same as he did all year, motivated for that ring and having trust in his teammates. I really dont think that an award will change him.

No this is a good thing. He played unselfishly (because he actually had teammates) and it paid off by winning and now he got an mvp for it. The only concern is not it going to his head but him passing to much.

I think Kobe cares more about Finals MVP than the regular season MVP.

Rome: "If I put a gun to your head and you had to chose one, what would it be? An NBA CHampionship, or a gold medial?"

There's no doubt in my mind the guy is going to continue the black mamba we've seen this season. He realizes nothing has been won yet. He's going for it all.

I wish Phil could talk him out of playing in the Olympics.
The only good thing is they are gonna let him miss training camp to make up for it and I hope he misses preseason and that makes up for it.
If Bynum plays again next season 08-09 they will blowout teams by so much he will get alot of rest.

I think the one thing you don't have to question about Kobe is his obsession with winning. I think winning the MVP will only whet his appetite.

I think we as Laker fans want the MVP award more than he does. Kobe's got tunnel vision for the Championship. Anything less would be a disappointment for him.

I think it is very stupid that he is going to play in the olympics with 9 fingers. He is waiting to get his surgery to after the olympics which I think is really stupid and for his team's sake he should reconsider. He should get surgery right after the season. Now he is going to get it after the olympics.

I think they should have a rule with the olympics because so many players have a tough time staying healthy the following season or are tired they should do 1 of 3 things.

1.Only college kids and some H.S. if they are good enough

2.Only guys who are 25 and younger

3.Players who play in the olympics miss trainging camp and preason.

4. An unwritten rule should be no player plays longer then 15 minutes per game in the olympics and they should extend the roster to 25-30 players or something like that.


They should also shorten the nba season to 70 games. 82 games is way to long. If they are gonna make it 82 games then there should be no back to back games.
