If the Gasol Deal Never Was Done

First things first, the Lakers couldn't have hoped for a better trade and roster upgrades, things played out in the best possible scenario

If the Lakers (Knock on wood) win the championship w/o Bynum healthy it shows the Lakers could have traded him for Gasol and things still would have worked out ok. I love the idea that the Lakers are #1 w/o injured Bynum and Ariza.

When they do come back the Lakers will be so fun to watch. I jjust can't wait. I remember racking my brain trying to figure out how to get the Lakers to this point. I'm glad Mitch the professional and Jackson made this roster.

Mitch made the moves, Jackson made the players improve.

If I had to I'd take Gasol over Bynum because look at the results of the Gasol Lakers. I can't wait to see both together. Lakers in 08!

So I think I may understand what the OP was getting at. Before the trade deadline we were all going back and forth about trade proposals (some of which included Bynum, see, e.g. the KG rumors). I think the point of the post was to highlight the fact that we (I am generalizing, I know) were by and large against the idea of including Bynum in a trade (except maybe for KG).

Looking back, knowing what we know now about Gasol and how well he fits into the system, would I support a trade for Gasol including Bynum?

My answer then would have been "no" and my answer now is "no" (although with much less conviction now).

See all of the arguments we made in favor of keeping Bynum back then, all still apply in my eyes.

If the Gasol deal was never done, then I think we would have all formed a cult and ritualistically murdered Mitch Kupchak.

if the Gasol trade was not done, the Lakers would have missed the playoffs.

Well not really for Shaq think about it they traded him for Caron Butler,Lamor Odom,Brian Grant.

Brian Grant Retired,Lakers Traded Butler to Brown to Pau Gasol

Shaq

for

Lamor Odom,Pau Gasol,Jordan Farmer (Heat Pick)

So basically trading Shaq was a good idea cause he was old and he is now defintley overpaid compared to Gasol don't tell me Shaq is better right now. Gasol will never be as good as Shaq in his prime, but right now he is in his prime and its good lakers moved on with there big men to get another great big man unlike the bucks when they traded Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

Who would of thought memphis would bite on such a horrible deal. If I were Memphis I would have looked for a young big man to replace Gasol not another point guard when u drafted mike conley and have mike lowry, and an expiring contract thats all they settles for.
