considering the expectations we had at the beginning of the season we can say that this season is a success. where we go from here on is all gravy.
I was hoping for best case scenario to reach the WCF this season and now that we are here I am looking forward to winning it all, but will not be too disappointed if we fall short because in my opinion we have already overachaived.
although, the so called "2007 plan" was supposed to take us to round 1 in 2005, to round 2 in 2006 and to WCF in 2007, and the finals in 2008, I can honestly say now that reaching and winning the finals does not look like an impossibility anymore.
...but the best part is that reguardless of what happens from here on we have next year to look forward to with the return of Bynum and Ariza. I think that if those two would have ruturned on schedule I'd be willing to bet Charles Barkley my house that the Lakers would win it all this season.
I don't know what will happen in the WCF or the NBAF, but either way I am already happy with our accomplishments and the rest will be....
the Cherry on top.

I must say this seasn has been wonderful. I told my homeboy that the Lakers would win 50 games this season. He said I hope so man. The way the season started off had me down as all hell. The Lakers are such a huge part of my life as well as the fans that have the same passion as I. I never been sick because of a game, my eyes was full of water when we lost Sunday's game. my homeboy looked at me and he knew I was feeliing down and out. I must say this season has been my dream come true. I want us to go on to win the title as well.
The Los Angeles Lakers the 2008 camps to be

woooow... You all should be reduced down to ballboys! Laker fans expect nothing short of Banners!!!
Its been a hell of a ride and im proud of our guys for their hardwork and maturity thoughout the season but....... The Los Angeles Lakers DO NOT play to make a run in the playoffs. We dont play to make a good showing, impress the league, or make it to the finals. There is only one goal and that is a CHAMPIONSHIP gosh darnit!
what is it... 14 banners so far?
if you disagree with me, go ask mr. 81 and see what he says...
GO Lakers....

on to the championship

+1
I didn't expect to get this far at the beginning of the season but now that we're here, we gotta go all out and do whatever we can to get that 15th banner.

I thought the season was a success when we didn't implode and trade you know who.
Then they started playing so well and were in the hunt all along.
Then they got Gasol which was incredible.
This season, to me has been one of the sweetest ones I can remember and I've been following the Lakers for 30 years.
WC Finals? WOW. Awesome.
Go on to NBA Finals? I can't belive it.
If they win the Championship this year, as a long time Laker fan, I'd have to admit that it would be the sweetest title of all because we didn't have Bynum for much of the season and went through so much early on.

I didnt mean to sound all mean and yelling... but uhm....yeah... can you just imagine phil with 9 championships rejoicing that he made it to the finals? Or Buss? or anyone in thtat locker room thinking like ...omg we finally passed the suns in the pacific, its a successful season? wtf...lol
I mean common...look at our coaching staff....every single one deserves his own team
We have the best player in the world....
Look at the history behind this ballclub...magic, kareem, Mikan, worthy, west, ....wow....thats what seperates this club from 90 percent of the league.
I mean we even have Candice Parker roaming around in our building....lol

i remeber when phil came back there was a poll regarding how long it would take to contend. i believe that the results leaned heavily towards the end of phil's contract (at that time a 3 year deal). well, they accomplished it. kudos to the lakers organization and players for a very, very, very memorable year. now lets see the lakers kick some more A55.

I can only guess, but I think Snaq's point is that if someone had told you before the season started

does being objective about our chances of winning a chip make me a ballboy?
or does expecting a chip make you a homer?
there is nothing wrong with wanting to win, but come on you can't blindly dismiss the Spurs, the Hortnets, the Celtics, and the Pistons.
EE, thanks for the assist.

true. lets face it, we dont hang division banners around here. only the titles go up to the ceiling. so what happens is the expectations are high! sometimes undeservedly so, when we flat out sucked. this year however, we have exceeded expectations.
but as that movie line once went: "GREED IS A GOOD THING!"
i'm satisfied with exceeding the expectations part. but of course, as LAKER fans, there is a higher goal in mind!

I do agree that we have exceeded expectations. Im just not agreeing that we achieved success.
its like a kid who gets a C+ and people say he exceeded expectations...maybe so. But around here, well IMO, success means an A. That's what they all work for.
I guess you all have a point(snaq, EE) and i have a point too... so lets agree to disagree. You say success is based on initial expectations, i say success is more about the ultimate goal at hand.

Even if we don't win a ring, how could this season be seen as anything but successful? Don't be jaded, remember where we came from and where our future was at the beginning of this season and the last four years. The worst part about losing to the Suns the last two years was not that we got eliminated, but the sense of despair because we knew our team, as constructed, would be nothing more than a 7 or 8 seed competitor every year, and would probably always get knocked out of the first round. It was a sense of hopelessness for a while. Then all the stuff that Kobe pulled this season. Our management was able to not only keep bryant and not give into his trade demands, but also put together a championship dynasty team around him throghout the season. THIS YEAR IS ALREADY A SUCCESS IN MY BOOK. I'm not saying that I don't want a banner. But if we get knocked out in the playoffs, it'll hurt. But it'll be ok. Because now, unlike the previous four years, we can look into the future knowing that we'll be competing for the title next year, and for the next 5 years to come. And in all honesty, isn't that the kind of opportunity you want to have? Remember where we came from laker fans, it'll make it that much better when we get a ring.
