Odom for Prince?

Post#1 » by 7_ace_7 » Wed Jun 4, 2008 6:06 pm

Since Detroit seems like they are going to blow up the team and every1 is on the trading block would you guys consider a trade such as this:

Odom + 1st rounder for Prince?

I think it would be great for the lakers to get some more D and give up some O. It would also make sense to respectivly have Odom starting on another team, rather (if this is the choice made) than comming off the bench.

I would love for my raptors to get prince but we dont have the pieces, but what do u guys think about that trade?

not crazy about it, prince isn't as versatile as odom

and the first rounder won't be for a while because the lakers have traded away this years and '10 i believe

prince is really good but he lacks the leadership role of lamar plus lamar can literally play every single position while prince maybe3
lamar doesnt enough credit for keeping kobe from blowing up anymore...he is the one who started that dinner that got everyone on the same page

Yes (without the draft pick). Prince is an outstanding defender, a good perimeter shooter and, most important of all, a true small forward.

Yes but it is a really tough decision. Normally I take the better player and Odom is alot better then Prince or at least the new Odom is better then Prince.
The reason why I take Prince is

1.He is an ironman
2.He will make Kobe's life alot easier by guarding the better of the 2/3
3.He can also play point forward maybe even better then Odom which helps Kobe
4.He is basically the perfect Pippen for Kobe something Odom has proven he is not. Odom is a good player just not the player that makes Kobe's life easier.

If anything though the Pistons give us the first round pick.

yes i am a raptors fan and and i hope our lakers (im not from the area but have been a fan my whole life) take out the celtics. but back to my point i agree that odom is the more versatile player but i was looking at it from a Defensive stand point

odom is a better all around player than Prince. Why would we give them a 1st rd pick???

People need to realize Gasol is skinny. Gasol is a pf playing Center. If Gasol keeps playing Center he will get banged around all the time by bigger guys.
Bynum needs to play the Center spot and Gasol pf and that will happen sooner or later and probably next year.
With that said Odom needs to go as great as he has been playing Odom is not the defensive wing.
Getting a pg is second on the list because I believe Farmar will be ready to take over next year and Phil will be ready to let him take over the year after that.

With that said these are the guys I would like to trade for Odom and that I could see really happening

1.Artest
2.Prince
3.RJ
4.Butler
5.Wallace Gerald
6.Josh Smith (not sure if he would fit in the triangle as the sf)
7.Deng
8.Granger
9.Bdiddly
10.Kirk-Noci

When Bynum comes back, Prince would be more valuable to our team than LO. I've always liked Prince and think he's the ideal candidate to be Kobe's "Pippen".

until you find out exactly how gasol/bynum are going to workout, u can't trade odom when u already know that fisher/bryant/radman/odom/gasol is championship caliber.

I'd do it but not with the 1st rounder. Also remember that Odom will be a $14 million expiring and that's huge. Even if Detroit doesn't like him, they can sign an All-Star with that money.

If we win a championship this year, I doubt our management would betray Odom like that and trade him for someone else even though I think Prince would fit better for us next year.

Exactly. Let's not jump the gun. I know we all love to dive into hypothetical trades, it's what we're here for, but we're going to have to hold off until we see our entire team on the court together. Sucks for us

I was wrong.
Absolutely not. Odom is way better then Prince. No to that trade.

There is no way Gasol will not be able to play with Bynum. Gasol is a pf not a center so it's not like he has to change positions. Gasol is a guy who can score from basically anywhere (besides to far out). He can hit the 15 footer with ease and give Bynum all the room he needs. They are not Zack and Curry. They will play together fine and Odom will play is not the defender at the 3 that Prince is but he is basically better then him at everything else.
I don't want to trade the opp to have a 2 7 footers and a 6'10 guy in the frontcourt.

And the first round pick doesn't make sence to me. Do people really think Prince is better then Odom? Even before the Gasol trade Odom was better but the knew Odom kills prince.

When your a frontcourt player having another skillful player makes you better so I don't know why people are worried. You can't double them, the defense has to keep an eye on the other guy so you get open looks more. The lonely you are up front skills wise the harder it is. The more talent you have to play with the easier it is. Just look at what Amare did once Shaq came along. The only way it wouldn't work is if they both had the same exact game which they don't. They were built to play next to each other.

The Knicks suck so they couldn't make it work but that shouldn't make people question us. The only way it wouldn't work would be if it was Bynum and lets say Shaq at 32. Game's to similar and neither can play beyond 10 feet out so they would get in each others way. Gasol is way to versitle for that to be a problem. Honestly I thought that was obvious knowing Gasol's game and thought you guys would get it after a couple games but some are still skeptical.

There are many things I am looking forward to that I believe will happen with this team in the future.

1.Lakers win this ring this year
2.Seeing Bynum play next year and being 100% then making the allstar team
3.Seeing Gasol make Bynum better and seeing them in the lineup together for the first time with Odom (then again with Farmar in 2010)
4.Lakers signing Odom
5.Lakers signing Bynum
6.Lakers signing Sasha
7.Farmar becoming the starter over Fisher and averaging 14 and 6
8.Kobe getting ring #6
9.Kobe breaking the scoring record
10.Jordan admitting Kobe is better

why do we have to constantly be looking to trade Odom? Last week someone started a thread "odom is playing for his colors." gawd.

I understand if a trade makes you better, you do it. But i like him in the core and he's been with us through the bad years and played well as of late.

this coming from a guy who's signature used to be Marion>Kirilenko>Odom
