Bobcats almost traded Wallace

Gerald Wallace could have been shipped to Toronto. Charlotte Bobcats managing partner Michael Jordan confirmed to the Observer on Thursday that they were talking to the Raptors about a swap of Wallace and point guard T.J. Ford. The talks apparently hit a snag when Toronto additionally asked for a draft pick. Instead, the Raptors are moving Ford to Indiana in a trade involving forward Jermaine O'Neal.

Charlotte Observer

If the Bobcats were willing to consider a trade of Gerald Wallace for TJ Ford I dont see why the Lakers can't pull of a trade for Wallace. Lamar Odom (exp) for Gerald Wallace, Othella Harrington (exp), Jermareo Davidson (exp), and cash would work.

Andrew Bynum - Chris Mihm
Pau Gasol - Ronny Turiaf (resigned) / Othella Harrington / Jermareo Davidson
Gerald Wallace - Vladimir Radmanovic / Luke Walton / Trevor Ariza
Kobe Bryant - Sasha Vujacic (resigned) / Trevor Ariza
Derek Fisher - Jordan Farmar / Joe Crawford

Another deal that could work but least likely to happen would be Lamar Odom (exp), Jordan Farmar, Coby Karl (exp), and cash for Gerald Wallace, Raymond Felton, and Othella Harrington (exp).

Andrew Bynum - Chris Mihm
Pau Gasol - Ronny Turiaf (resigned) / Othella Harrington
Gerald Wallace - Vladimir Radmanovic / Luke Walton / Trevor Ariza
Kobe Bryant - Sasha Vujacic (resigned) / Trevor Ariza
Raymond Felton - Derek Fisher / Joe Crawford

Both trades would require the Lakers to either trade or buyout Vladimir Radmanovic or Luke Walton as the Lakers would have too many SF's.

i don't think the lakers are interested in a 10 mil multiple yr commitment to a sf that doesn't even shoot the ball well.

I agree.

You really should go into this season with Lamar. He is a FA and if it doesnt work out you can let him walk or deal him for an expiring and future assets at the end of the campyian. If he can spend some time in the gym working on his jumper "highly unlikely" you guys would have a huge front line. No one would be getting into the paint.

Also Kobe is your guys defensive stopper so adding Wallace doesnt really help their. Not sure how your owner feels about paying the luxery tax either, Wallace would ensure you enter tax range in the years to come.

Artest is a head case. Go ahead and add him. I am sure Portland wouldnt mind. They have seen what a player like that can do to a franchise. Maybe you should ask the Pacer fans about that too.

Your franchise is in a position of strength moving forward. You just went to the NBA finals. Are adding a player in Bynum to a front line that also includes Gasol. You have the lexury of going into the next season with an expiring (Odom) and seeing how everyone molds and fits together.

As for Kobe being a defensive stopper...he is. When the game is on the line he is going to be defending the opponents best player.

*sighs* not interested.

As someone already posted, Wallace is not what we need.

We already have the same guy in Ariza who is similar to Wallace.

Good D and poor jumpshot.

Well, I'm not sure we can assume the Lakers WANT to take on another big contract. It's probably going to take a very special player, a deal we can't refuse, for Buss to pay the penalty.

Is Wallace worth the luxury tax? He has a history of injuries and his outside jumper is inconsistent. Also, I think his defense is overrated, that's just me. He likes to play the passing lanes. He hustles though. I like him, but he's somewhat of a gamble, and I just can't see the Lakers rolling the dice when Buss is really going to be paying double his contract.

In an ideal world, I think the Lakers would wish to translate Lamar Odom into a quality veteran role player like James Posey with a manageable contract. Downgrade in talent, sure, but I think the team, at this point, is looking at the big picture instead of amassing as much talent at whatever cost.

On the Bobcats' side, MJ's desire to trade for Ford, another injury-prone player, has got to sting if you're Gerald Wallace. And it's gotta hurt real bad for Raymond Felton.

But now that they couldn't land Ford, well, Felton is the best they've got. He aint that bad.

On the other hand, the Bobcats look like they want to jettison Wallace from the payroll. Somebody might get him cheap, but I don't think it'll be us. Some team that looks at his contract and sees 10m a year, not 20m.

miles I hope your wrong because losing or downgrading talent is not the way to win a championship. A downgrade like Odom for Wallace or maybe Battier is one thing but Posey? Come on. These teams we beat are going to be improved and we got killed in the finals. Why downgrade now?

how was rodman "worst" than artest? perhaps in scoring, dennis could score, just never wanted too, sounds weird but its true, he had a couple of 18 point games in his career...

if i could take either at their peak, i go with the worm every time, especially with big chief wheatgrass as his coach...

didn't watch posey in the finals?

and the comment about kobe being the stopper so we don't need another defensive player is crazy, can't have enough defense

Yep, kobe is a stopper but if artest is out there, Kobe can focus more in D. Since gasol came im missing kobe scoring 40points everynight.
