Mitch with Joe McDonald, a few interesting points:
Roster basically set, he's going on vacation
Will carry 13 unless injury concerns dictate 14
11 under contract, will add 1 more big primarily for practice purposes and spot minutes (has had discussions w Mbenga's reps)
And practically said Karl and Joe will battle for final spot
Said NO internal discussions about Kwame were had, laughed at the rumor
Felt they couldn't five 5 mil to a guy (Ronny) who will barely play
Confirmed Sasha had more Net money on table from Euro team
AND said the Bynum reports are inaccurate and he will be 100 per by camp late Sept

Thanks for the info. One day I miss it and Mitch had to be on it. Wish we had one more player to really impact the team. One more big would help and if that big would play some. That would be even better.

Wait the roster is set? LOL he didn't do anything except draft someone at #57 pick....he is going on vacation? Hasn't he always been on vacation? Fine he resigned Sasha but basically he didn't do anything else this offseason.........Not using the MLE, not using the LLE, not using the minimum, basically said that he will sign some scrub to be a practice dummy.....we lost a vital big man in our rotation but the man is going on vacation. He better hope this current roster will get back to the finals.
I know there isn't much to do but every offseason Mitch pisses me off and I don't buy that he alone landed us Pau Gasol.

by what would jack bauer do?
S***, call me pessimistic but does anyone feel nervous about our front court? I mean with the bad injury (recovery) luck we've had with Mihm, Luke, and even Kwame should we really be settling on an extra body to just take up space? Maybe he knows something we don't, like Mihm is finally back to the form he was in 2 and a half years ago when he was dropping 20 and 10 against a prime Rasheed and Ben Wallace or that Bynum is really going to be healthy.... not like I've heard those ones before though.
But damn dude, has this guy heard of an insurance plan? We need to bring in some extra muscle... I'd want a big bruiser type player like Craig Smith even if our front court was 100% (mihm/bynum). We need that kind of toughness, we lost quite a few games last year where we flat out got outhustled and outmuscled... does anyone remember losing to Utah with Okur and Boozer out? I'm not saying that ish would happen in the playoffs, but having that extra muscle to counteract the millsaps, maxiell, and workmen players of the league would be great. That's why I didn't think losing Turiaf was such a huge loss, because he didn't really bring that toughness on the glass that we need. Yes he brings energy and a ton of hype, but he didn't bring that element that we're lacking right now. Bynum can bring that toughness when healthy, but if we don't add a bruiser and another freak injury occurs we may be in trouble. I'm just saying insurance is nice...

Why is he going on vacation? Give him a permanent vacation and fire him then. We still need to trade Odom for a better suited SF and sign a backup PF/C.
Fisher/Farmar
Kobe/Vujacic/Karl
?????/Ariza/Walton
Gasol/Radmanovic
Bynum/?????/Mihm

he's said this in other interviews right after the season, his main plan was to keep the team together as best he could, i think he didn't want to make any moves that could mess up the team's chances of getting back to the finals

F*** Mitch, you live in LA which is damn near a vacation all year long.
The move he should be persuing is Odom / Ariza to chicago for Nocioni and Gooden. Nocioni's contract goes from : 8 mil
7.5 mil
6.8 mil
6.6 mil
Gooden is at 7.1 for this season and expires this offseason. This gives us a solid fit at the SF and backup PF. It also gives us the option of next offseason shedding drew's seven mil plus the decrease each year in noci's salary which would go towards bynum's extension and we could just pick up a cheap big after losing gooden next year with mihm's expiring contract. Both players would fill the roles needed and allow us to bench luke and or radman and give those minutes to sasha. Hell worse case scenerio we could pick up a vet minimum wing to ensure walton and radman dont even dress until they shape up or until their contracts are better trade chips for more expiring money.

I don't trust Mihm to play an entire season.
I knew laker organization is going to go on vacation while clippers are busy talking to everyone about everything.
No need for Ronny? If I see radman play PF for more than 5 minutes in a game I'm going to puke.
I guess we all have to hope other teams with the SF we need get desperate near trade deadline so we can make a big move like earlier this year.

He specifically said with Bynum back there were no mins for Ronny (w Pau, Odom, Vlad) and that's why the let him go... Which leads to... They are confident in Bynums recovery, Mihms ability to give 8-10 min, Odom going nowhere, and Vlad picking up some PF time. No Ronny for that tax hit.
Yes Hermes, he said 2 or 3 times: we were 2 gms from a title so the squad is set (w Byn in for Turi).
The 13 is dollars tax driven so if Bynum or Mihm don't practice regularly they will need a 14th I am imagining at a mil or less.
I do wish there was something else but I see the FO point: tore through the West March to June, w/out the starting C and defensive 3, and should've won the title (had gm 1 prior to the PP fake and gm 4 collapse) so xtremely close. and tax committed so they're not maling changes until they see how the Byn, LO, Pau, Ariza works.
I see it. Really hope it works.

He also talked about Okafor and rookie deal Rfas saying it is almost impossible to trade them due to byc and getting 3 teams to agree, and that is why those s/t deals almost never happen. Sounds like he reads realgm trade boards!

I for one would like to never see Radmanovic get minutes at PF but now it looks like it is bound to happen... Hopefully we can dump him somewhere

Like off a very tall cliff.
Otherwise, I'm not sure what some of you were expecting. We bought our fancy new toy (Pau Gasol) last year, and now we're paying for it by tightening the wallet. It's probably going to be like this for a while, especially after Bynum gets his eight-figure extension, so those of you who expect flashy moves every offseason might as well get used to it. No more MLE additions, and no more trades where the front office brings in more contract than it sheds.

There wasn't much that could have really been done. The only realistic signing that I thought we could have had that would have addressed an actual need is bringing Kwame back to play behind Bynum. Other than that, there wasn't much room for improvement unless it was by way of trade.
Still, we have a quality roster that should be even better now that everyone is expected to be healthy, so we have to stop being so spoiled as fans and realize that we can't be perfect. The tools for winning a championship are in place, and that's what really matters at this point. From that perspective Mitch has done a fantastic job. Now it's time for the players to live up to their expectations.
