I know I wasnt hearing things when I heard the Chants of MVP during the US-China game.
Its funny how other fans( Haters) argue Kobes popularity world wide, but yesterdays game and all the event coverage points to the level of love Kobe recieves even across the Globe.
You can only think how far and how big of an Icon Kobe would have been if he didnt have his issues and problems.
But as a Laker fan even though it makes me proud to see my country and the level of athletes that are representing our country, BUT it makes me even more proud to see the Captain of my favorite team getting so much love in other parts of the world and his name and his legacy is being represented as a Laker and the USA . FTW.......

The funny thing is he is getting this while lebron and wade are getting all the commercial exposure. Not a swipe at them,but imagine what kobe's popularity would be if he still had the nike machine behind him 100%?

Yeah it's been a few months,but kobe hasn't had a major commercial ran in a few years.

Seems like all those marketing experts with their Q-ratings know what they're talking about. Not.

My stepbrother has been living in Japan for 18 months now and I asked him about how popular basketball and Kobe is. He said basketball wasn't really big in Japan (no surprise there). Interestingly he also said that if you asked regular people on the street if they know who Kobe is, they would. Kobe supposedly has commercials going on all the time over there including some coffee commercial.

When I was in high school back in Asia, Iverson was the best known basketball star and it had a lot to do with the popularity of Reebok at that time. Since then Nike has taken over the basketball merchandise market in a big way and they've been very successful promoting their icons and coupled with Kobe's emergence as a marketing icon at the tail end of the 3-peat days, his popularuty has only gone up. Now that AI's career is coming down from its peak, Kobe rules the Asian market.

All Kobe has to do now is to beat the C's and he's done it all.....along with Wilt, West, Baylor and Magic.....
