Kobe: We Shouldn't Have Traded Marc Gasol

Is it just me, or does it seem like he's disappointed he only has Pau to help him and he thinks his brother could have helped more.

He could be saying that both of them together would be really good instead of just Pau alone. Or it could have the hidden meaning of brother Marc possibly showing more toughness than Pau.

I hope this doesn't eventually rub off the wrong way on Pau and a Kobe/Pau feud starts. Drama sucks.

Pau is too soft to react to Kobe anyways. Nothing will happen.

? All Kobe is saying is Gasol was a throw in, and it wasn't needed, which I'm not sure I believe. It would seem Marc was needed in that trade. I watched his draft tape at the time knew of his pedigree and I thought he looked like a great pick. He's not very fleet a foot, but it was worth it for Pau. JC is doing well as well. Pau was worth it. Now if we can just get Pau a decent haircut and shave so he looks like a superstar, some core trainign for that lower body, we should be a O.K.

Stop with the soft Pau stuff it's too damn negative. You ae only allowed to slam Vlad Rad and Luck Walton.

If Pau got a "decent haircut and a shave" he would look like he's 10 years old.

Also, why can't Kobe simply be saying he likes Marc's game? Why would it have to be an insult towards Pau? How dumb do you think Kobe is?

JC + Kwame wasn't good enough to get P. Gasol. Memphis already got a lot of hate for the trade and I'm sure one of the big selling point was getting a younger Gasol brother that fits with the young team of conley/gay/draft pick (now mayo). And they get a young prospect team with low salary that would entice buyers in case the owner wants out and/or sets them up for upcoming star studded free agency market. There were teams out there that may not have had a single player as big of an expiring as kwame, but several players that could add up to one and better young players than JC to be included. But nothing beat the prospect of a marc gasol who showed a lot by the time of the trade and expiring plus last years draft pick.

The Memphis GM said Marc Gasol would have been a lotto pick this year. He clearly was a key component of the trade. Marc Gasol was easily on his way to being the Spanish league MVP at the time of the trade. Most of us Laker fans on RealGM knew Marc was a real player before Kobe did. He will be center in the NBA. He's differnet type of player tha Pau. Marc will likely be a tougher, and a real center, but less offensively than Pau. Similar to and/or slightly less than Brad Miller in my estimation.

He did say he would like to have both of them together.

"In hindsight, we probably didn't have to give him up to get Pau," Bryant said. "We should have kept Marc, too."

oh and a link always helps..

You can't have two good things at the same time ! Either you choose one, or you stay with nothing ! So Kobe may shut his mouth a bit !
As soft as many of us think Pau is, with him we had a legit shot at the title last year ! What do you want more ?

Marc is tougher, a bigger body in the low-post, but neither he's got Pau's fine game. How fluent was our game with Pau, he makes it go faster. Marc would probably keep the ball for like 4, 5 seconds before deciding what to do with it. Not always, but from what i've seen, this is what happens most of the time.

I didn't watch the US vs. Spain game because I was flying back to US from China, but I watched the entire Spain vs. China game and I have to say that Marc Gasol did not impress me one bit. He is huge, there is no doubt about it, but his athleticism seems incredibly limited. On offense, he doesn't seem like he knows how to utilize his size and strength to score down low as he can't create any space with his massive body. On defense, he is not a good shot blocker and doesn't rebound well, guys can grab rebound from right around him seemingly at will. Maybe one game isn't a fair judgment but Pau just seemed much much better than Marc. I for one do not know what type of player Marc Gasol will become in the NBA. He is not a blue collar banger and he is not a low post scorer.

OK folks lets move along, this is nothing I don't even know why Wire Tap made it seem like it's something more then it really is. Can a guy just give props anymore. I mean it's just like you and a buddy bought double cheese burgers with bacon but you threw your bacon away. Then your buddy raves about how good the burger was with the bacon and you say " damn I shoulda keep the bacon". Same scenario case close.

Kobe's wrong in thinking a deal could have been done without Marc G in it, Chris Wallace already said getting him was key to the deal because, as EP mentioned they thought he was going to be lotto caliber in a year or two.

Here's my imagination of the conversation:
Mitch: Kwame (salary)+Critt(attractive talent)+two Firsts
Wallace: We'll need Turiaf too
Mitch: We need Ronny for our depth and run to the Finals
Wallace: Then we need Marc Gasol's rights
Mitch: You'd do that, break up brothers? No sentimentality.
Wallace: Ummm, you remember that your Center is hurt, right?
Mitch: Damn........ .........ok, deal.
.

No disrespect to Kobe, but he probably shouldn't comment on things of this nature. He wasn't privy to the inside workings of that deal, so it's really not his place to say what we could or could not have gotten away with.

Honestly, I don't even think he meant to phrase that comment in the way it was phrased. I think he just chose his words poorly (quite common for him), and what was meant to be a simple comment on Marc's game turned out sounding more like backseat GMing.

But why can't you pick up the bacon from the ground?

Because the ground says, haha this bacon is mine. And that is where your analogy fails, because the ground cannot talk.

LOL I love it...

Every time Kobe says something that's ridiculous, the default response is, "Well, what did you expect Kobe to say?"

And people usually follow this up with even more ridiculous responses to take away the ridiculousness of Kobe's initial ridiculous response.

For example, "What did you expect Kobe to say?".... "that he would've loved be traded to Memphis with Marc Gasol because country music is his second passion."

Well, I don't know too many areas in Memphis where they play country music anymore.
