basically, the zen master says that there is too much offensive for bynum to get more than 20 points a game. kobe is a threat to get 30, lamar and pau can get 20 a game whenever they want...then you also have players like farmar, radman and vujacic who will take high volume shots.
10 boards, 3 blocks, a charge and 10-15 points are expected from bynum, because that is what will make the team "elite"

I personally never thought he would average 20. I am not saying he cant, but , not in this offense and that is alright. We need balance and we will get it. There will be nights where Bynum, Lamar and Pau all put up 20+ games and that is a great problem to have.

Just one of those classic PJ comments that motivate whoever theyre directed at.

Just like when PJ said (im not sure of the exact words here) that Bynum cant last in practice because of his bad conditioning a few days ago, then Bynum said that motivates him tio go all out till the end of practice or something.

It was on one of the recent wiretaps I think.

He doesn't need to either. On the nights we need big points from him I don't think he will have any problems producing, but he will be steadily around 12-15 IMO

I don't think Bynum will get 20 either just because of the potent offense we have.

Phil said we couldn't win 50 games prior to us landing Gasol. Not everything that Phil say is untrue...the guy doesn't use reverse psychology on every single one of his statement. No way Bynum can average 20 barring an injury to Kobe, Lamar or Gasol. I personally believe if Bynum averages 20 we are pretty screwed in terms of landing the top 4 seed for the playoffs. There will have to be plenty of personal sacrifices this year...when we had GP, Malone, Shaq and Kobe...Kobe lead the team averaging 24 pts per game while Shaq was next in line at 21. This year we may see Kobe scoring 25 while Gasol and Odom will get around 15-17...At best Bynum should be looking at 15 pts per.

it kind of gets annoying when fans refer to most of phil jackson's comments as "REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY".

i personally think phil is just stating the obvious facts...

kobe=26 points
pau=19 points
lamar=14 points
bynum=12 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks.

thats an average total of 71 points as is....

fisher, vujacic, radman and farmar will contribute about 30-35 points
and thats if ariza and walton average 0 a game...which wont ever happen...

Nothing controversial or wrong about this statement, not a single player on the Celtics, Pistons, or Spurs averaged 20+ last year in the regular season.

Like Jay Jay Said............... Phil is picking on Drew just to get on his nerves for his own reasons.

I think we'll lead the league in points scored. I just don;'t see a reason why we wouldn't be averaging around 110 - 115 PPG as a team when you factor in the efficiency of the offense and the guy running it. So obviously there will be atleast one more guy in the 20 PPG range with Kobe or else the other 3 will be close to 17 PPG each.

I don't think phil is messing with Bynum at all. In fact if you watch the video he looks disappointed when they mention it. He says he wants bynum to rebound, block/change shots and set picks. Drew came into camp saying he knows where he could have helped in the finals. The defensive end and rebounding. He was preaching defense in his interviews. Then he goes and says he wants to average 20 a game. I think phil is being honest. To me it was a genuine disappointed/annoyed response by phil. Kind of like the kid knows I'm not asking that of him type of response.

Drew should concentrate more on leading the league in blocks and rebounds. That needs to be his goal. As a 20 year old kid who has in phils opinion only played 20 complete games sharing the ball with all star players like kobe and pau shouldn't worry about 20 points a game.

Let the points come when they come but go out and get those boards and blocks drew.

i don't think anyone thought bynum was going to get 20 ppg this season.

yeah i had him getting maybe 15-16 points a game, mostly when he's playing with the second unit.

but i see no reason he cant get at least 11 boards and 3 blocks a game.

Look at the Laker's roster last, add up everyones overall PPG, and compare it to the team PPG.

It just doesn't work like that. Injuries happen, players have hot and cold streaks, alot of things go into those averages.

If everyone is healthy and having an "average" game, then yes, Bynum shouldn't be good for 20+ points with all the other offensive weapons you guys have got. But how often does this scenario happen? 5-10 times a season?

That's 8 guys down and 112.4 points already, 4 points over the average. Then you throw in guys like Ariza, Turiaf and Walton, and it's even further across that line.

I don't think Bynum will average 20 point a game, but it is definitely possible.
