Looks like Odom's days as a Laker is coming to an end

Odom played the role of scapegoat for angry Lakers fans after L.A. lost to the Celtics in the Finals. He didn't help his cause by showing up at camp out of shape. And he seemed to dig himself an even bigger hole when he criticized Phil Jackson for suggesting Odom might best help the Lakers by coming off the bench this season. In the past few days, Odom has backtracked and said he'd do what was best for the team, but most in the league think it's only a matter of time before the Lakers find a new home for him.

The team spent some time this summer looking at a few deals, but nothing materialized. Look for the Lakers to restart those talks sooner rather than later. Jackson's triangle offense is notoriously hard for recently acquired players to learn, and given Odom's impending free agency, now seems to be the right time to move him.

A Marion-for-Odom swap might make the most sense for both parties involved, though I've heard there's interest in Odom in quite a few cities, including Cleveland, Chicago, New Jersey, New York and Orlando.

It mentions even with Odom becoming a happy camper recently; the league thinks hes gonna be shipped in the up-coming months.

Its all speculation at this point, but I can't help but think of the possibilities.

LO is a great player, but with our current roster (esp. having Bynum back) LO is expendable.

That really says something about the current state of the Lakers. When a player of LO's caliber becomes expendable, you can be sure you have an extremely talented team.

In the end, he will need to go and we should be able to get a very solid SF or PG, if not both.

Yeah, I read this article earlier today and thought of posting it on here too but stopped since it's just pure speculation. Although I would be very happy with either of the following trades mentioned in the article: Vince Carter, Ben Gordon + Nocioni, Marion. Each move will greatly enhance our chances at a ring and fits perfectly into the triangle. Imagine a Vince Carter and Kobe duo? I've been one of the fans that have been calling for Lamar's head these last few years as I have grown beyond frustrated at his inability to fit the role of second option for our team. But now with the arrival of Bynum and Pau, I'm kind of on the fence of trading him now. The way I see it we could go two routes with Lamar.
A)We could trade him and upgrade our SF position in our starting rotation.
B) Or we could keep him for insurance purposes in case one of our bigs get hurt. I'm leaning towards this option due to our recent injury bug the last few seasons. We are arguably one of the best teams on paper to win the championship. But without Lamar, and with one injury to one of our bigs we are out of the hunt. Look what happened to Houston last year when yao went down. If we keep Lamar on our bench and have him in our back pocket in case (God forbid) a major injury occurs to either Pau or Bynum, we could still have a shot at making a run for the ring with Lamar stepping in at the 4. We got to the Finals last year with Him and Pau. If we trade him for a small, and an injury happens to our big. I'm afraid that the drop-off will be too great for us to overcome in the playoff. Having someone like Lamar on our bench is a great insurance asset to have. A starting lineup of Fisher, Kobe Pau and Bynum doesn't really need much help if you ask me. We would be fine if we plug in Ariza, Radman, or Odom to be honest.

Until I see a list of players the lakers could trade LO for. I do not see it happening. Why would a team trade anything good for LO if they do not want to resign him at the end of the season.

Do we trade for Marion when he will bolt also. Just does not seem like a good fit. He makes 11 plus million and we are not going to get a Pau deal a second time.

One other thing. funny how this story comes out when the lakers have about 5 days between games and then there is the Kobe to Europe again. Just writers trying to seel papers.

I don't think LO will be traded, he's our best backup pf and we have a lot of sf's (vlade,Ariza and Luke).
I think we'll just go with LO off the bench.

Lakers arent trading for Marion, his extension would be too expensive... Only way Lamar is re-signed is if we win the championship AND he settles for about 7 mil a year.... And Lakers likely wont trade Lamar for an SF unless one of Luke, Rad or Ariza is leaving as well

I agree Marion is out due to cost and free agency.

Despite the issue with learning the triangle, I'd wait until some teams start to tank, or players become unhappy like... Battier or bum bum bum Artest.

My non western conference option would be Wallace in Charlotte or Prince. Really Prince is more durable and fits the need better.

i dig lamar. only thing he doesn't have if a jumper. out of shape or not, i'm bettin he could still get a double double from rebounds and assist. the samething happends every year. trade lamar for this or that and he stays. i don't wan't marion he's 31 and want big dollars....what does clevland have...Orlando?Chicago rumors again?
