I think Ariza and Farmar will definitely be kept... not so positive about Lamar... Our main objective should be trying to find a way to dump Radman

Like what, his defensive skills, his consistant shooting, his passing ability, dammm how can I miss all of those things.
Ya Im with Nicka on dumping Radman, he has never ever been what we expected him to be and I think his contract was a waste of money and talent.

Expect that no one wants those two now. So we must do the time since we did the crime.

But Cook was relatively cheap and not as fragile.

Re: Future of This Team
This year is the best year to win a championship for the Lakers.
Look at their roster and the future. Lamar will be gone and Bynum is asking a team destroying contract.
Unless miracle, Lakers will be like Kobe - Bynum - Gasol. I think this is not enough to pass the West considering the Rockets, Utah, Spurs, Mavs and New Orleans.

Our team knows a thing or two about how to negotiate contracts, doesn't really matter what Bynum's agent wants to run his mouth about. Andrew will be extended and it won't destroy the team. Lamar, might be gone, but Trevor is a jump shot away from being a stud, Farmar is only getting better.
As far as the west:
Rockets- fair chance at doing some good, but better chance of chronic injuries.
Utah- not big enough, couldn't do it last year, and other than Williams I see no improvement
Spurs- Always dangerous, but their star is going to be swarmed by big men and Andrew has always had success with him anyway.
Mavs-Fiiizzle
New Orleans- wild card in the whole thing, but I think we're too much for them. West can't guard Pau, Kobe and Jordan can slow Paul as much as anyone can expect, and we are massively deeper.

Re: Future of This Team
Seriously, who doubts Mitch's ability to get things done these days? He's proven to be able to draft well (with the help of his scouting team, no doubt)--see: Sasha, Farmar, Bynum, trade for impact players--see: Pau, Ariza, and develop talent in-house with a coach who is supposed to be antithetical to rookie development.
Yes, money is always an issue, but the Lakers, more than any other franchise in recent memory, has been able to manage their payroll effectively. The ticket-holding fans are energized about this team for the next few years and that's been the cornerstone of Buss' ownership ideology for quite a long time now.
What's there to worry about, really?

Re: Future of This Team
Plenty to worry about... but nothing serious b/c he's such a passive GM.
The good thing is that Kupchak's moves have to be approved by the owners.
That should tell you a lot about how confident they are in his abilities.
-You might have short-term memory issues b/c he's easily a bottom 5 GM to me. (that's amplified by my hate for his role as GM since Jerry West left, and b/c fans like myself think they can do a better job at the helm)
-If you want... just make a thread about how ppl feel about Kupchak and how he's been doing at GM, BEFORE THE GASOL TRADE.

Re: Future of This Team
To me, it's all on Buss.
If he wants to bite the bullet and put his money where his mouth is, as he has gone on record that he will, then there is no issue. The pieces are there. We just need to keep them all. That won't be Mitch's call, that will be Jerry's. And I will be EXTREMELY disappointed if he goes back on his word.
Suck it up, lose some bucks over the next four or five years, then make it all back when we have to start rebuilding around Andrew. Considering Jerry has already multiplied his initial investment in the Lakers 10 or 20 times, the last thing I want to hear about from him is cash.
EDIT -- Bottom 5?!? I couldn't possibly disagree more with that. V, I'm not saying Mitch is the second coming of Red Auerbach, but what has he done to earn such a lowly distinction?
Re-building on the fly, especially when you have a huge contract like Kobe's already on the book, isn't easy. Lo and behold, here we are with what seems to be a nice four- or five-year window to compete for a ring.
A lot of luck went into that, but surely he deserves at least some credit.

Re: Future of This Team
Ppl lie, money doesn't.
I'm not sure what he's willing to pay Lamar, but if he doesn't want to keep him... he should trade him for a Hedo or Artest-type of contract.
Bleh, I'm trying not to get involved.

Re: Future of This Team
Buss knew this would happen, unfortunately. That's why we were one of the only teams to step up and actually make the deal for Pau Gasol. There was a firesale and not many teams wanted to take on his contract. We did.
If we're going to be successful with the talent that we have, we are going to have to commit ourselves to have a payroll of around 90 million. Buss has to realize that, or else we have to trade Bynum and build around Kobe and Gasol. And THAT is not smart to do.
We have to pray Ariza plays big during the season and more.
