Just heard it on 570 am. Horrible decision IMO. Coby Karl should of been gone. He's an absolute bum, and did not do one thing on the court this pre season. Maybe they took pity on him because of his past, and/or gave him the benefit of the doubt because of his dad. But if he had a different last name, there'd be no way he'd make this team based on his play in the SPL and pre season.

Meh...I dont think Giles, Crawford or Karl are difference makers. The former are not that good enough for us to " hold on to them"

I think Karl made the cut due to his familarity with the offense. I highly highly doubt they made these decsions based on pity or his last name.

Wow we we kept worthless DJ an Karl and dumped a great project in Giles ...... U would think powell would of been cut just cuz he is gona get heat for "hurting kobe" While it wasnt his fault but you know people will blame him if kobe starts limping sometime during the season

giles is a project. DJ and karl are better equipped to handle the run we want to make this year.

I'm fine with Keeping Mbenga, you can never have too many big guys IMO. I'm glad all this pre season crap is almost over. These games are just a tease. One thing that I can take away from this pre season however is that I have a whole new respect for Pau's offensive game. He has such a well rounded complete game for a 7 footer it's absurd. I have complete confidence that the Pau and Bynum experiment will work based one fact: Pau won't let it fail. Pau is finding Bynum inside. He's looking to pass to him first, before he decides to score. Pau's face up game is absolutelty lethal. It's true. He's much better facing up then he is with his back to the basket. Yesterday, Pau hit a jumpshot just inside the 3 point arc. He also faced up yesterday, drove to the basket and threw a lob pass for Andrew. Pau also attempted a turnaround jumper. I don't think there is anyone more perfect for this offense then Pau Gasol. We have to give Pau more touches this year. Pound the ball into him to settle our offense when it gets frazzled, like we used to with Shaq. We should force feed him. I would like to see 20+ attempts a game from him. Now with the last guys cut, the regular season is just around the corner. I can't wait

Well, since we're talking garbage minutes, I'm guessing they went with chemistry. Karl is probably liked by his teammates. And as mentioned, he has a leg up on the triangle experience. I hope Giles gets some more seasoning and maybe takes another shot with us next summer. I wanted him, but on the other hand... Devean Green probably is more talented and he's struggling to do more than play summers in the NBA.

Now I'm not a Coby Karl hater, last year I made a few complementary posts...however I have to say, I'm a bit surprised by this decision.

Not even because of CJ or Crawford have more potential or something like that, but because Karl has disappointed me in his lack of apparent improvement. Maybe I'm just tired of watching him try to hold a discussion with the refs, laughing to himself, after he makes a bad turnover.

To me, he hasn't shown that he's grown as a player. He's shooting 16.7% in the preseason games at about 10 minutes per. Sure he's not always out there with the best unit, but his shots are just awful. You'd hope that he'd get over his rookie-shooting-shrinkage...but to me, he still hasn't managed that. Whereas I was surprised with Crawford's steadiness.

Yes, he didn't do anything spectacular, but he seemed to make the right choices, as compared to the other rooks (or soph in Karl's case) looked like they let themselves play outside of their game. Though looking at their totals, Karl has 11 assists to Crawford's 0. I guess he just knows the offense better. I would have liked to have seen more improvement in his shooting or defense by this point. For a player with the potential to merely replicate qualities we already have on our roster (shooting/playmaking) I was looking for a new look in our 15th man.

I don't know, just a thing I've noticed...maybe Karl will turn out like Sasha and we'll only have to wait 4 or 5 years for him to be a gamer.....

Chub you know I was on board with you on the subject of Karl in earlier threads on him here. We know who's happy he made it again huh.......................ErikEleven !

I'm disappointed in the coaching staff on cutting Crawford, hell if they were going to do that then why don't they just cut the losses short and cut anybody who can't help you on a nightly basis. But we keep Sun Yue and Karl ? Both were horrible in every game I saw them in.

I'd much rather keep the spots open for a raggedy vet...............at least he'd help in some form.

Damn! I thought Joe Crawford was going to be teh next Monta Ellis.. j/k. Hope they find a home somewhere.

Karl, Benga and Powell are on non-guaranteed contracts. So they can be cut if needed. We are stacked as far as talent goes from 1-10/11.

No worries and still flexible.

Well Phil I like Powell and DJ.............they're bigs we can't let them go. Mitch strapped us with Yue, why I don't know.

Who really thinks Giles had good potential and Crawford was one of the last picks in the draft. Karl will spend most of the season in the D league with Yue. I think the Lakers this coming June are going to draft a big with one of the three picks they will have that big will have more potential than Giles ever had.
