Using Our MLE

I'm actually glad Mitch and the rest of the front office have been waiting to use the MLE this year. When you look what has already went down with the Billups-Iverson trade that created Antonio to become a free agent and with Stephon most liking becoming a free agent in a week it looks like there is some nice pieces out there to be had. Stephon in reality has actually helped his case in a lot of ways because he has been the bigger man in the situation with D'Antoni and Walsh. (I would never thought those words would come out of anyone's mouth in regards to Stephon either). Antonio is a very good vet and will bring any team more frontcourt toughness. He can bang, hit the 15ft jump shot, rebound, and defend. Steph likes the Spurs and Celtics. Walsh may only allow Steph to talk to Western Conference teams before he buys him out. Antonio wants to go back to Detroit but his agent will listen to other offers if they are financially well and with a contender. I'm quite sure other good vetran players will be bought out as well within the next couple of months. Do you think we should keep waiting or go ahead and go for Antonio or Steph?

My guess is they'll use it if a player goes down. But bringing in a new face that doesn't know the system, triangle, etc. would be pointless. See players like Jim Jackson and Ira Newble.
The only player that benefitted was Gasol who has a high basketball IQ to learn the system quick.

Jim Jackson was past his prime and Newble was picked up as more of a 12th man. Neither was given the MLE. Gasol was via trade (or robbery if you ask the rest of the league). Antonio has a high IQ basketball wise. Steph does bring a different type of play making to the team. If you want to use an example don't use guys picked up with the vet min that were either past their prime or just picked up as a 12th man. That is a big difference than picking up someone with the MLE. Teams use the MLE on a player expected to play quality minutes and help produce more than a cheerleader. Big difference than the examples you gave.

Like I said, they may use it if a player goes down.
But giving a player an MLE right now is pointless since they will be riding the pine right now. McDyess can still contribute but given the line up the Lakers have right now, he would be lucky to sniff 5 minutes a game behind Odom (our sixth man); not quality minutes right there.
Options for Stephan Marbury is a joke. Every time he has played with after he left the T-wolves were horrible. He's a scorer. We don't need more scoring. This is the type of trade you make in NBA 2K9 and not in real life. Have I left anything out?
Theres a reason why the Lakers have 14 players on the roster and waived Coby Karl. With so many injured players from previous years, they want the flexibility to sign a replacement if the situation required it.
But putting in a new face into the line up when the Lakers are off to a great start and the players are building chemistry is not necessary.
My two cents.

McDyess would get way more than 5 minutes because he has the ability to play center. Remember there is only a few true centers in the league and most teams back up center is actually a pf playing center. As far as Marbury goes I really don't think we should pursue him personally. Nothing against him but I'm just to happy with Farmar and Fisher. Plus with more players having the likelyhood of being bought out in the next 2 months there will be more quality players like McDyess available. It's not always about waiting for injuries because come Feb when the trade deadline hits many players will be taking the vet min so the MLE can be used in the first half of the season.

We're saving it for Lebron.

yup, we're saving it for lebron when he turns 40 hehe jk.
I think mgmt is doing a smart job by not jumping on any free agent in the market. I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing lots of faces in the free agent world soon. They should let Sun play in the nbdl as well... homey needs more work.

I thought I would never say this, but we don't need anyone else. Are team is stacked. If we brought someone in they would just be sitting on the bench complaining about his playing time. On top of that he would need to learn the system.
Basically he would be a waste of time and money.

Guys there just saving money. They have to pay almost 4 max contracts if they want to keep Odom or get somebody good for him and keep him and that's not even including Farmar.
Sorry guys but no need to get spoiled.

Never thought I'd say this, but...Star is right.
Unless some ridiculous bargan drops into our lap, we're not going to be spending any MLE money for the forseeable future. Not with the payroll we're carrying.

Yo pdub, you realize Starbury will struggle in the Triangle right ? I'll take Dice but he's got love for the Pistons.
