You Knew It Was Coming,The Pau Gasol Appreciation Thread

Post#1 » by iamworthy » Fri Dec 12, 2008 3:03 am

Its time people. Time to give props to the man who was a key contributor to the lakers making the finals last year and the man that will help us to the promise land this year....Paul Gasol. we are something like 45-8 when he is in the starting lineup. This guy is a offensive genius, and the true second option this team has been in search for for the last 3 yrs. He makes everyone around him better. And plays the game the right way. Gasol might be the game changer assuming we make the finals because this year KG will be gaurding him instead of Perkins. KG doesnt like to bump and bang so Gasol could give him major problems in the post. The MVP of the lakers so far this year, its time to give it up. He's averaging 18/9 and shooting 57% from the field. Minhee and gentleman, I give you Pau Gasol...give it up..**clap** **clap** **clap** :D

Such a smart and skillful player. You wish he was a bit stronger, and more athletic, but he manages to make up for it in a lot of other areas. He's about the one guy on the roster that I don't have any beefs with at the moment. He's playing about as well as he can play.

His defense is actually highly underrated and its masked behind his softness. Definately our MVP this season so far.

pau's consistency has been crucial to surviving the inconsistent play of everyone else.

I like how Pau Gasol stepped in and just gelled with this team right away last season and is still ballin' with us this season.

Making me look real good after doing a promo for him a year before the Gasol heist. 8-)

We gotta throw an All-Star votes his way.

They can't keep him off the All-Star game this season if he keeps this up, and we stay ballin'.

Agree! Gasol has made the triangle look like childs play. I know in the past some people have had problems picking it up but he picked it up with no problem. What people dont understand is that he now has a whole year under Phil Jackson to learn from the Zen master. Lakers will be a much better team from a chemistry standpoint alone.

Big props to Pau. Without him, we'd be in trouble right now. He's been keeping us going, and he's been the only person fighting offensively and defensively the last couple games. Big ups to Pau.

By the way.. FU to the people who think Pau doesn't play defense. Yeah, he doesn't play with an aggression that he's going to dunk on someone every time down the floor, but he scraps defensively. Look at Camby, Boozer, Duncan and KG's FG percentages in the playoffs last year. Big credit goes to Pau and his length. He's also done a really good job this year.

Actually KG did guard Gasol last year and they put Perkins on Lamar. Lamar was not able to exploit that mismatch as he sagged off and just protected the rim because he knew lamar was going to drive. We failed to go into Gasol against KG last year. This year if we meet them again hopefully things will be different. Becuase Pau is now playing the 4 instead of the 5 which is a lot farther away from the rim. This means KG can't camp around the basket and be a pesky help defender that he's been known for. I honestly think this is a matchup we can exploit with us isolating Pau against KG away from the basket. 8-)

nah, kg only guarded pau when perkins didn't play and pau had a very good game. perk was on pau when he was playing and kg was roaming the paint mostly ignoring lamar.

He's a great big and versatile on the offensive end. He doesn't have to dunk to score points, and has a nice shot from the outside. I'm glad he's a Laker.

You sure? I remember Perkins guarding Lamar a lot. Because I remember being furious that Lamar was not able to exploit that. I was yelling at the tv every time he got the ball. IF he didn't start on him, Perkins sure as hell guarded him a lot.

Pau is the man right now. If he wasn't as consistent as he is, we would be in big trouble. Bynum looks like he's really starting to come around so I think we are going to have the deadliest 1-2 Big Man punch in the league very, very soon. Good thread Big Game James :D

wasnt it in an interview with pau that occured right after he was acquired mention that the triangle incorporated everything positive about offensive skills and that it was basically a revision of everything he learnt while learning to play basketball in spain??

it thats the case, we should be looking into acquiring more spanish players... especially if they come ready to contribute straight away

wouldnt have made a difference... lamar wasnt going to shoot over perkins consistently

even if lamar went to drive, if kobe had three defenders sagging onto him everytime he tried, how would that make any difference when it came to lamar?

probably get more offensive fouls, thats what...
