Wierd and a classless article on Farmar

I find it very tasteless for Dime magazine to write up and article like this.
I just dont see this being a subject or something to write about.

One Reason To Root for Jordan Farmar (Or Maybe Not…).

Over at FreeDarko - a blog that needs to be on your regular rotation - Jordan Farmar has created quite the stir. Well, Farmar hasn’t really done anything. It’s more that the Lakers guard is both a practicing Jew and a damn good basketball player. Though the writers of Airplane! would have a field day with that, it doesn’t seem like there’s an inherent problem with being both Jewish and good at basketball. So what’s the issue?

It’s that he doesn’t look particularly Jewish, and furthermore, he doesn’t play like the fellas at FreeDarko would imagine a Jew to play. (Interestingly, they identify a cross between Rudy Fernandez, Shane Battier, and a young Joe Johnson as a player who would have a “Jewish” style. They also include Stephen Jackson in the conversation about someone who “strikes [them] as really Jewish.”) Ultimately, they leave their post open-ended in the search for someone who represents the Chosen People.

Why would someone write an article about a player being Jewish or Muslim or Christian, and address that player as a Jew.

I dont know but dont you find it a bit odd and wierd since this has absoultely nothing to do with the game or what religion the player practices, and for the writer to keep saying Jew or Jewish and he is a writer for Dime Mag?

Dime magazine is great. It works great when I use it to pick up after my golden retriever.

You are misinformed, Tony. "Jew" is not specifically a derogatory word. It's acceptable to use. Now again, it's about context, but just its use doesn't mean something "bad."

Also, the writers, from what I can surmise, at both Dime and SaveDarko, are both Jewish. So you're calling Jewish people antisemitic. I just think it's funny. The articles are by no means interesting or thought provoking, and rather even this thread gives them too validity. I can't find much "wierd" in them.

Jew is not a derogatory word, but the way they are saying "his playing style would be like _____ and ___, that would be a jewish style", etc. is pretty damn stereotypical IMO. Basing what a person does based on his religion is stereotyping.

SLAM MAGAZINE is really good, they tend to overhype players sometimes, but it is a really good mag

I agree, thats the way I reed it.
I dont care if the writer is a Rabbi and he lives in Israel.
There is no substance to his stroy and I find it pretty lame that Farmars religion is the subject, and the way he is being addressed.
Thats all

I've read that a few times.

I heard it was one of the more popular ones out there.

I bought the Olympics cover from this year w/ Kobe/Lebron/Carmelo but my ADD kicked in after a few pages, lol.

I'll probably go over it soon now, thanks.
