Mihm wants to stay a Laker
Of course he does (as noted on the RealGM basketball homepage), he has been paid for several years to barely play. Now, with the team aiming for another finals run, he doesn't want to leave. Sorry, but if Mihm brings a player that can actually help ON THE COURT, Mitch should make that move. Even in last night's game against the Warriors, Mihm was the only DNP-CD. Even Sun Yue played 7 minutes.
Don't get me wrong, I would much rather have Mihm on the roster than Mbenga, but Mbenga isn't going to bring a useful piece back in return like the rumored Lue possibility.

Re: Mihm wants to stay a Laker
The thing is with Mihm, he is only getting paid 2.5 million and no contract beyond this year. The other side of it is he hasn't played any meaningful minutes in a couple of years, so who knows if he can even do it. He could be a 10 and 5 guy in the right situation but he seems happy to not play in Milwaukee. Which who can blame him.
I also read today of Earl Boykins being let go from his team over seas so that could be an option at the PG. However I also read that 10 day contracts start Jan 5th so maybe they are gonna try the cheapest route and go for a guy or a couple of guys at 10 days at a time.

Re: Mihm wants to stay a Laker
If he takes the absolute minimum that we can pay him (whatever that is), then I'd welcome him back. He's a great guy and loves the Lakers, he's just been plagued by that ridiculous ankle injury which has kept him from playing.

If Mihm gets the absolute minimum than why not me. I am sure i can warm the bench better than him.
I get to see every single laker game from front seat and get paid more than most professions...mitch should do a contest. Get Mihm's job.

I would bet if Mihm got kidnapped, abducted by aliens or just dissappeared into thin air, it would take months for anyone to even notice.

I'm a long 5'7 175 and I deserve Mihm's salary. Seriously though, Mihm loves his job because he gets to work out for free, gets paid millions of dollars, and on top of that has courtside seats to every laker game (home and away) and gets to hang out with Kobe and the rest of the gang! I would slap the man who would say he wants to quit that gig.

Re: Mihm wants to stay a Laker
I can see what he's saying. He was the big man here for a while and he wasn't a reason we were losing in particular, but then came years of watching and rehabbing. Now he's part of the biggest show on earth, able to do some things again, and fighting for a title and revenge over a team that he played for and felt slighted by previously.
If we can move him for the right piece, go for it, though. Not saying don't trade him, but I'm sure he's a happy Laker.

He's a class act. It must suck for him the way his injury robbed him right at the time that his game was finally about to peak. He was playing really well on both offense and defense for about a month or two prior to the injury. I'd love it if we can keep him around but he might have to go in a trade. I like Chris Mihm. Truly a good person it seems.

i really like mihm, i saw some major potential with him before he got hurt, and i wish maybe whilst his ankle was bum, he couldve put on some upper body mass...that might make his case better as far as being a starter anywhere in the league...

Re: Mihm wants to stay a Laker
I agree with mostly all of your post except 1 thing. At this point I would much rather have Mbenga than Mihm. Mihm's injuries have really caught up to him & he rarely brings anything on the court & he would probably bring us a piece like Lue. Mbenga brings defense, rebounds, & hustle every minute he playstriplethreatt wrote:Of course he does (as noted on the RealGM basketball homepage), he has been paid for several years to barely play. I could happily let Odom or Walton play the loyalty tag but Mihm? Sorry bro!

For him to say the things he's saying about assuming a veteran leadership role for the youngs, thus forsaking his own game and career aspirations, speaks volumes for his great character. What a team player. To me, that type of loyalty is hard to dismiss.
Mihm's injury was extremely unfortunate and untimely. Talk about a bad break. I was actually complaining out loud late in that game about how Phil left starters out there to finish the game, seeing as it was a blowout. About thirty seconds later, Mihm went down and his career was arguably over. He was just about to graduate as a legit NBA starting center. Sometimes, Phil's stubbornness works against him, and in this case, it ruined one his players' careers.
What sucks is that Mihm had really worked hard on his deficiencies at that point and had become a more than just a second unit center. For like a good twenty or thirty games leading up to the injury, he increasingly became one of Kobe's few go-to-guys for scoring in the post early in all games. He was an extremely reliable scorer in the high and low post. He made it look easy. His defensive rotations were no longer late either, which had been his achilles heel. He wasn't a great defender, but he had become pretty damn good at protecting the basket and the low post in general without picking up fouls, which had been his biggest deficiency.
At this point, who knows if he's back to that form or not? We eon't know until we see him play. It's not easy for anyone in this league to crack a rotation of Gasol, Bynum and Odom. Both Mihm and Powell might start on another NBA team. Maybe he'll re-sign for cheap and we can showcase his game a little more next year, when he's not up for free agency?
I don't know who remembers, but I used to be one of his biggest critics around here. He changed, played great and deserves his props for that. I would like to see him back next year. The price tag will be the only issue as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Mihm wants to stay a Laker
^^ Yeah I remember him starting to put up 15/8 or something like that just before the injury happened and it was very unfortunate to be without him, as Mihm and Butler were the only guys Kobe passed the ball during that time.
I don't remember that game being a blow out though, we had like a 5pt lead on the Sonics at that point and his injury completely destroyed our momentum. We actually lost the game IIRC.
Anyways I appreciate all the leadership and stuff but after 3 years with a team in which he was sidelined for the best part of 2 years and now finding himself coming behind Josh Powell in the depth chart, I don't think as a fan I'd let him stay just out of loyalty. Infact I'd be much happier if he landed on a team where he could get minutes and actually test his knee a bit because a healthy Mihm is too good a talent to be wasted like that.
