Marc Steins's sources say he might be heading to boston
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3804977
That still depends largely on Marbury's ability to negotiate his release from the Knicks after weeks of fruitless and oft-contentious buyout talks, but sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com this week that Boston is Marbury's preferred destination if he manages to become a free agent and that the Celtics are indeed hopeful of signing him
When asked specifically about the likelihood of Marbury joining the Celtics this season, the source predicted that "it will happen."
Joining the NBA's reigning champions would certainly back up Marbury's recent claim at halftime of a Knicks-Lakers game in Los Angeles that "the team I'm going to go to, a lot of people will be shocked." The 31-year-old hasn't officially played for New York since Jan. 11 of last season and began this season on the inactive list while awaiting a buyout. Marbury was then barred from contact with the team in late November after a dispute over Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni's offering him the chance to start playing again following the Knicks' two trades on Nov. 21, which left them short of available players.
The Celtics lack size more than anything off the bench, which should explain their interest in Brown and Mutombo. But Marbury -- when he's right -- is a proven scoring threat who can also handle pressure on the ball, freeing up Eddie House to focus on his preferred role of designated shooter. The Celtics also clearly have the strong team culture -- with Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and coach Doc Rivers -- to take on the various challenges of a Marbury dice roll.
"All the people who say nobody wants me on their team, [that] I'm all different things -- a cancer -- that's not what's going on," Marbury said at the game in L.A. earlier this month when surrounded by reporters.

What does this have to do with the Lakers ? I could careless if he ends up in Beanville, Celtics need all the help they can get with that weak bench they have.

i'm hoping for mitch to pull the trigger for a trade now for a defensive PG to back up fisher while farmar heals. Just don't let it be a knee jerk reaction like the Suns getting shaq or kidd to the mavs.

Marbury and The Celtics?: The New York Knicks and Stephon Marbury are expected to meet again in the coming days to talk about a contract buyout. The Knicks are expected to hold to their stance that Stephon needs to waive his objections to fines and suspensions, and grant the Knicks an additional $1.5 to $2 million in discounts and he'll be given his outright release. Media reports suggest that Marbury may have pegged the Celtics has his landing spot. If you're scratching your head wondering how that would happen, it's not likely to. ESPN's Marc Stein is reporting that a source close to the situation says "it will happen." However Celtics' sources told HOOPSWORLD this morning via text message that it's not going to happen and that we may hear Danny Ainge distance himself from Marbury very soon. There is a strong belief that Kevin Garnett would object to the addition of Marbury to the roster, although KG has never said anything on the record to support that. Speculating on where Marbury may land also overlooks the fact that New York may make not signing with an Eastern Conference team part of its buyout agreement, a deal that Marbury has said several times he was not going to agree to. Chalk this up to "cart before the horse". It will be interesting to see how Boston handles this story now that it is out there so emphatically.
I doubt it, he is done with K.G and there is no way he will go to an E/C contenders, also he has already came out and publically expressed interest in a West.
So lets wait and see.

If he was at a LA game, then obviously he wants to be a Lakers.

Not looking good for the Lakers at all. Even if Steph is a cancer, what does Boston have to lose? Worst case scenario is benching him for the whole season and the playoffs. If Boston is making a move for him, the Lakers should also make an offer for him and hope that theres still some hard feelings between him and KG back when they were in the T-Wolves.

Guys this article is garbage.
Sure lets look at it this way.
Marbury doesnt like K.G anymore. Histroy has proven that.
Ainge doesnt like Marbury.
Knicks arent going to release Marbury if he signs in the East.
Marbury has openly stated he wants to play in the WEST.
He shows up in LA and buys a ticket for 2600.00 dollars, TO PROVE A POINT.
He said he is going to surprise everyone by his decision on his next team.

Yeah, the norm is if a player is to be traded or go anywhere.. it's usually to the other end of the continent hehe...
But if he is really goin to boston then of course we have to re-think things over. I mean even if he's a cancer, he's still a threat offensively. Plus we're down a PG, Fisher isn't getting any younger and our backups aren't experienced enough to cover...
Ultimately, if he is goin to boston, we should worry.. just a little i think hehe.

Sounds like a low risk, high reward deal to me. He takes the minimum and if it doesn't work it then at least they took a shot.
Yeah the KG thing would be the only pitfall--because I think KG thinks of this guy as a me first player that doesn't care about winning and just the stats. Should be interesting.

If they werent bandwagoners then how can ever forget a legend like D.J......

Nice of you to generalize all of Celtic Nation based on comments of 1 or 2 Celts fans.

This would be a good signing for Boston if it goes through. They need bench production and he would give them that, and I think he'd be more than willing to put his ego aside to prove a few people wrong, namely the Knicks organization. Being a part of something great can work wonders for a persons mentality and I'd expect that the Big 3 can keep him in check well enough.
If he doesn't work out then they can just get rid of him and call it a failed experiment without having lost much of anything.

You know what it is.......... You guys ( Most Cs fan) you guys are really freakin sensetive, I mean someone gives you and your team props and you guys get pissed, someone gives you advice and you guys get pissed, someone says hello and you guys say good bye.
Everything with you guys and I MEAN ALL OF YOU CELTICS FANS THE WHOLE NATION THE WHOLE COLONY............ I mean everybody.
You guys just have this chip on your shoulder that I have ever witnessed.
You guys sit there and bash everyone and everything but the minute someone say something you guys get all butt hurt.
It wasnt one or two people, its your entire board, and even your mod that is A MOD with a lot of knowledge and class took the N# A retired N# of a legend like D.J and you place Starbury on it.
I dont know about you but to me thats wrong, but I dont care honestly what you guys do on the other side of the fence, I tried to be a team player and a good friend but it seems that you guys rather have enemies than friends.
So be it but at least show some respect to one of your fallin legends, specially a legend like D.J.
**** Im not a Cs fan and I love D.J.
Also you guys have bashed Marbury this entire time, and now a rumor comes up and you guys are going crazy on your board and G.B starting threads after threads about him and what a great addition he is to your team like its the second coming of Jordan.
I mean I like Marbury and I would love to have him here in LA and I know 95% of our board is against it, but Dammmmmmmmmmmm you guys are down playing your team like you guys are hurting or your team is in need of a Savior and he happens to be Marbury...........
Come on now..........

Hey, its' a Celtics fan posting on the Lakers board. I guess we should all call him a troll and start attacking him, that's what's happened pretty much everytime I've posted on the Cs board.
Just kidding about posting here (although not about what happens on the Cs board). As far as I'm concerned I'd like to see more Celtic fans posting here, makes the discussions more interesting.
And as far as Marbury to the Celtics, sometimes picking up the talented malcontents works out (Moss), but most of the time it doesn't (TO, Pacman, Isiah Rider, etc). Seems like a pretty big risk to take for a team that is the defending NBA Champ. Even the Patriots didn't take a chance on Moss until they were starting to slip.
