Kobe, Phil & Shaq - The Reunion

Post#1 » by LakerRings » Fri Jan 16, 2009 2:39 am

So, it's pretty clear that these three will be reunited at teh All-Star Game this year - not sure how I feel about it. I'm sure Kobe and Shaq could care less at this point - Shaq has been kissing Kobe's ass all season. Phil doesn't even want to be there. But I still harbor some resentment for the way Shaq has behaved since his departure.

Just another all-star game. Even BSPN isn't even hyping this up.

Oh, they'll hype it up if Shaq is named to the reserves. Hopefully Bynum can put up a couple monster games in the next little bit and get some recognition.

You laker fans have been spoiled by greatness. I'm from Toronto, and I was watching a documentary on the Lakers, man, you guys had some spectacular players come through there. Pure legends. You guys hating on Shaq and thinking this isnt a big deal proves just that. Kobe scoring 81 pts is forever etched in my head.

If it's a slow news day the media is gonna hype the hell out of this..preying on the young, uneducated, and those with little to no responsibility!

Perhaps Obama will make some profound statement or Steve jobs actually admits he's done for good

I think it's all up to the media to push this reunion thru. Of course they'll probably ask questions here and there.. thoughts..

But since Phil is the coach he can do watever he wants.. like all past coaches.. of course they'll yield toward their own players more. It'll be kewl seeing them on court again though. I say shaq put on a lakers jersey, that'll spice the all-stars up a little bit lol

I still rep Shaqs jersey when Im at a game or watching a Lakers game.
Me personally I think Shaq is going to retire in LA with another title with Kobe. BANK ON IT.

C'mon man, you know that the majority of Laker fans got a serious hate on for Shaq. I read these forums, people just cant let it go. It's just as (Please Use More Appropriate Word) as the Raps fans that hate on Carter. Yes they deserve some of the blame but most of it falls on the managements decisions. The legacy that both these men provided to their respective franchises in my opinion far outweighs the ways in which they departed. Also, Shaq is still awesome, replace him right now at age 36-37 with both Gasol and Bynum and you guys would steamroll the celtics or whoever else is in the way. Kobe and Shaq's on court chemistry is comparable only to Michael and Scottie.

I'd like him, but no. Off the bench? Don't see it.

Tell me about it.
Do you know how many times I have watched all the championships we won with these two guys and everytime I watch it, it breaks my heart to think WHAT IF.
The day Shaq came to LA I called everybody I knew even people that didnt give a hoot about basketball and all I did was talk ish about how we are going to win the chip every year.
I was so excited when he stood their with J.W and Buss.
I was even more heart broken when I found out that we traded him, deep in my heart I was hurt but I knew it was for the best.
Oh well it is what it is, but I will still rep him as my all time favorite Laker ever to wear the P&G.

The 2000 W/C/F game 7
I can still rememeber the game we came back in the playoffs from Portland, we were at Ceasers palace, I had 5 grand on that game, and I was their with some of my craziest boys.
When we walked in we were down by 11 and some friends of mine picked a corner by the walk way, and we came in STRONG, all of us had Kobe Shaq and even Horry Jersey.
We came in owning LIKE WE WERE THE LAKERS......... Nobody said isht to us except a group of kats that were on the other side of Sports book, but you can tell the whole house was against the Lakers, cause when Portalnd score the whole place went off, or when they fouled the Lakers everybody would boooo.
And we started talking, oh and we were talking isht, when 4th qt came thats when WE DROPPED THE BOMB.......... AND THE ICING KOBE TO SHAQ ON THE ALLEYOOPPPPP.......... WE WENT OFF.
We were dropping more F bombs on Portland than HEROSHIMA.

As we started cheering more and more, then withing a matter of minutes, every Laker fan at Ceasers Palace was next to us........... It was like having a gang of a 100 P&G warriors on one side of the wall waiting to throw it down against 300 plus others.

We were getting so crazy that they actually had to call in security, but here whats even funnier, the casino manager came up to us and he was a Laker fan, and he started yelling with us...lolll.
Then my boy turned around and asked him " Where is the cocktail waitress at" and he called three from another parts of the casino and told them that all she needs to do is stay here and only serve us, and we had five securitys around us and they were partying with us.

I have to say that was one of D MOST FAVORITE GAMES OF MY LAKERS LIFE.
I can never forget that day.
Here that game.............

Thinking about that game never fails to bring a gigantic smile to my face. That's why I can't be too upset about how it all ended, shameful and unfortunately necessary as it might have been. How many fan bases out there would kill just to have one memory like that, let alone three championship runs filled with them, let alone getting to watch the greatest point guard ever run Showtime a decade before that? We Laker fans have been truly blessed.

Yeah Shaq is just tring to ease his way back into those two minds again. I was bitter about how Shaq left too, but got over it after like 2 weeks. It's been 6 years since he played here.........we've all moved on tho bigger and better things. But I sure Shaq will play up that weekend to more then what it should be.

Man S.T I have watched a lot of games in my lifetime, but those were the craziest games I have ever witnessed as a basketball fan, and you are SO MONEY with your post.
I mean we are truly spoiled as Laker fans and what we have witnessed is amazing.
But that game 7 with us coming back has to be one of the greates games ever played by the P&G.
We came back being down in everything, the series and game 7............ WOW.

Man, you aint got to post a link to that game. I was watching that game live in my parents room on a small ass 20" tv, jumping up and down by my damn self. I was a senior in high school then, had no job, no money and I bet some dude $50 that lakers would win that game. I had no money to pay this dude if portland won. Even when the lakers were down huge I never panicked, I just knew Shaq was on a mission. Its my favorite basketball memory right there with the expansion raptors handing the 72 win Bulls team one of their 10 losses.

However, There is one thing that i thought about years later about that famous kobe to shaq alleyoop that everyone has seen a million times. After that massive play, Shaq never embraced Kobe what so ever. Not even any eye contact. Its too bad, guess it was an indication of what was to come.

Dam Brahhhh.
You hit that isht right on the money.
You know how they say "You cant see the world thru my eyes" Well you just did.
I mean perfectly.
That was one of the things that came right out of my mouth after we were done yelling and screaming when the Blazers went to timeout............ I told my cousin and my best friend.........
" Dam V (My Cousin) thats ucked up.... Kobe threw that perfect ooop to his ass and all he did was throw his hands in the air and do his duck dance while he ran to the bench" Thats B.SSSSSS.
And my boy said your tripin Barhhhh......... Up to this day I recall that play and Shaq not even givin props to Kobe for that play in general, and you can actually see Kobe standing there and running but motion less as Shaq ran right past him................. Sad but true.
Funny though you actually remember that, I thought it was only me.
