how do we defend the 3 point line?

GET A DEFENSIVE POINT GUARD. phil jackson usually has to refer to trevor ariza to defend the opposing point guard which usually leaves the small forward open to do whatever he wants. we really need to find a defense first point guard (likely can get one for a cheap price) who can effectively run after other point guards, which also enables our premier defenders such as trevor, kobe, and bynum to stick to their men on defense.
instead of phil having to switch trevor or kobe to guard their pg, and moving sasha(who is an overrated defender) to guard kobe's man, we should pursue a hard nosed veteran pg who can cause some complications on the other end.
we've been getting killed on the corner 3's repeatedly by lesser players such as bruce bowen, daquean cook, michael finley, courtney lee, jameer nelson, bobby jackson, john salmons, brent barry, etc etc...i mean, these are some good role players..but if we use "help side" defense more effectively, those long daggers can be prevented...which usually cost us the games anyhow

We needed Farmar last night. He's quick enough to run out to Nelson and at least contest the shot. You'd think Jackson would have put Vujacic on him, as well as he was playing, or anytime in the fourth quarter.

I thought the problem was on offense where Pau would post-up a small Lewis and kick it out to an open Fisher, with Fishers lack of quickness the defender would just run at him and make him pass the ball

kirk hinrich. can hit the 3. good defender. i think he would fit the triangle

Expect we might be albe to afford him because of us being over the luxury tax and the poor economy.

Hinrich's contract is $9.5M for next year then goes down to $9M then $8M. His contract isn't that much for a quality point guard. I think Buss wouldn't mind it too much.

Expect it might cost us Ariza as well. So that is why getting rid of Luke or Vlad or both by some mircale we whould be able to do this.

first piece to trade when talking about hinrich is farmar... why? no PT for him here once kirk and fish clog up the minutes

we'd also save some money not giving farmar his extension as well

i'd do a trade as long as it doesn't cost the lakers lamar odom let alone getting them to take luke or vlad

well if they want odom as well as including farmar, then there's where all the debate is, isn't it?

lakers aren't keen in trading 2 productive parts of the lakers team for 1.

reason #1 why lakers aren't dealing for hinrich and that it'll be difficult to deal with them anyway as long as lamar is a juicy expiring deal

There are lots of pieces I'd want from Chicago... Hinrich, Noah, Nocioni, Sefolosha. I'd trade both Odom and Farmar to Chicago too.

Delonte West is the guy I really want to fill our point guard position... maybe they'd consider a trade now that Delonte is out for so long just like Farmar. I wouldn't do that trade if I were them though.

I think right now we're overreacting and we can make internal adjustments for the rest of this season (I think teaching the triangle would be too difficult at this point). But I definitely would like to add a 4th stringer that can play defense on the quicker pgs in the league. I don't know if these guys are still capable defenders, but I'd be interested in acquiring Mike James or Lyndsey Hunter while Farmar is out. Maybe the bulls will waive hunter now that Hinrich is back... Hunter still is with the bulls right?

good work, im sure chicago is bursting at the seams wanting to trade Noah, Thabo away as well after letting odom expire...

and nocioni, don't get me wrong, hes quite the adequate SF, but hes a no-go with our SF jam unless we're offloading ariza as well

and lakers won't be doing a noc swap unless its for luke/vlad

who would want sasha now that he just signed a deal, ariza will be in talks, because he's a good energy guy and expiring

You know I've been thinking recently that we could use a guy like Nate Robinson. Let me say first though I think Nate is completely overrated and in any other situation other than ours he's not a championship point guard.

But I think Mitch and Phil need to soon come to the realization that the small quick speedy guards are here to stay. In the past Phil has liked the bigger guards, but the league has really changed. 8 years ago there was only a few of the speedy guards like Allen Iverson on elite teams that could take over a game for a stretch, now and in the next few years they're going to be everywhere. You still got AI, but now you have to deal with Chris Paul, Jameer Nelson, Tony Parker, DJ Augustin... even D. Rose, Stuckey, and Harris although bigger guards have the same speed as those mentioned.

We've got to adapt to the direction the pgs of the league are starting to move into. In the past we used a 3rd string pg like lue to fix the problem, but now I'm thinking we should really consider having our back-up pg be a smaller guy. I think Nate Robinson would bring some attitude and toughness that we need; and while he's not a great defender he does a solid job on the speedsters. Maybe nate isn't even the right guy for the job though... any other quick guards we could land for Farmar? Aaron Brooks? anyone know someone else that's worthy?
