The official Happy Bday MLK and welcome Obama thread.

Post#1 » by TonyMontana » Mon Jan 19, 2009 5:51 pm

One man led the battle to equality and civil rights, and one man is making his dreams a reality because of what MLK dreamed of.
These two days will mark a great part of our history as Americans.
Barack Obama's inauguration marks a profound manifestation and proof of the Rev. Martin Luther King's dream, and what he had hoped for civil rights and equality for all African Amercians and humanity.
His dream has become a reality, and by the timing of the inauguration, which falls the day after the MLK holiday is a sign of hopefully good things to come, and how far we have come as Americans and HUMANS overall.
Lets all remember this day and tomorrow and keep our faith and believe in one and other and above all never lose hope in life and remember everything we did go through and things we still need to achieve in our lives.
May God Bless protect, and provide wisdom to Obama and his family and everyone else that is a part of this new office, and May God Bless MLK and his family and everyone else that was involved in changing this world for a better world to live.
We celebrate and honor an individual who has givin his life and his belief that "We Shall Overcome" and he made this world a better place in which we can live, with liberty and justice for all, regardless of race, color, or origin.
Yes we still have a long way to go, but we have made a lot of changes, good and positive changes.

LETS KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE............. And GOB BLESS YOU ALL

here here....a historic week, and the call, whether you agree with obama or not, the point is that we all need to be a part of the future, we all need to clean up our back yards, we all need to take an interest in what goes on in the world, and if we do, when we do, we can all be part of something great...

happy MLK day....

Indeed. Say what you want about Obama the president, but his election shows how far we've come as a nation in such a relatively short period of time. Let's hope he and his staff have what it takes to pull us out of the muck we're in, because we are neck deep and sinking fast. Best of luck to No. 44.

with liberty and justice for all, regardless of race, color, or origin.

The only difference between Obama and every other president is that this is the first time a "Black" Millionaire is running this so called democracy.

On a bright note perhaps electing Obama will put identity politics on the back burner and focus on CLASS issues since when Obama betrays Blacks and the anit-war contingent that got him into power people will say "Hey, may be it's not all about race maybe it's all about the interests of CAPITAL that rules the world AGAINST the people."

Remember, MLK was not assasinated for speaking out on RACE. He was assasinated when he began speaking out on WAR and POVERTY i.e. CAPITALISM.

Happy MLK day, though!

Whenever it comes, the end-game of capitalism will be essentially the same as life during the feudal ages -- massive conglomerates will own 95% of the wealth, while the rest of us will be modern-day peasants forced to subsist on scraps.

Unfortunately, socialism isn't the answer, either. It stifles competition and creativity and initiative, all of which are essential components of the human creature. Without them, we'd still be living in caves, hunting our next meal with rocks and sticks.

Perhaps we can strike a balance between the two, but nobody's been smart enough to do it yet.

Now that's an intelligent response. Peonage exists today it's just that we have shiny toys we think makes us happy but in essence we are all in debt slavery or in slavery to wages.

But agreed, a new way must be created or improvements must be fashioned or else humanity will never know true freedom.

All else is the celebration of false heroes.

Good thread Tony. This will be a great couple of days. Hopefully, that feeling will extend to the next 4 years, and beyond.

Good luck President Obama.

Wonderful thread Tony, props for this one.

I did a project on Racism at the end of my grade 12 year, and got the best mark ever chosen about that subject. Studying the likes of Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, Nelson Mandela, and of course, Martin Luther King.. there was nothing more eye opening. To see how far the world (most specifically, the United States) has come, it really is unbelievable and it shows with Obama's inauguration.

I know Canada doesn't celebrate MLK day as much as the United States, but I'm a firm believer that it should.

Definitely wish the best to MLK's family, and definitely wish the best for Barack Obama in the coming years.

That's great that a black man has made it to the white house, that's ground breaking. He hasn't done anything yet except for throw a 200M dollar party in the middle of a recession. Before you crown him the second coming, lets see what he's got beyond charisma. Happy MLK day.

Great speech by Obama just now. I don't think I've ever heard a bad one from him, to be honest, but he hit it out of the park once again.

It's great to have an intelligent man back in the most powerful position on the planet. Now we can get on with evolving and put science back where it belongs -- on the forefront.

That's how I feel -- say what you want about him, but at least we have an intellectual running our country. In contrast to W:
