Kobe upset at Odom?

http://www.ocregister.com/articles/odom ... -diaw-gameOdom's off balance shot when Bynum was owning on the block really hurt. Odom and his carefree attitude when he misses free throws in the 4th quarter I hate and of course when you are told not to give up a three and you go to help on a driving layup is also bad.
It seems no matter what you tell Lamar he doesn't have the attention span for it and he tends to free lance. Outside of hitting two shots versus the Celtics that he normally don't make, Lamar has been hit and miss.
I don't know if he thinks he is the second option or something but, I hate in the half court set when he decides to not through it into Gasol or Bynum. He decides to do a few dribbles and put his head down and try to go left and toss it off the glass. It seems Phil told him to get it to Andrew but Lamar decided to be the hero I guess.
Lamar has great talent but when it comes to basketball IQ he always seems to be at a loss on how to make the simple plays. He either takes a wild jumper at a key moment in a close game, misses free throws and laughs in fourth quarter, don't pass inside to Bynum or Gasol for the best shots when Kobe is sitting , or drives out of control to his left where everyone is waiting trying to do too much.
Some games when they are up 15 against a weak team he gets away with things like this but in the playoffs and going forward in big games versus good teams, his lack of attention to what is needed and asked of him from the coaching staff is gonna cost this team dearly.

I don't think it's fair to point the finger only on Lamar. Where was Pau? Why was Sasha taking a fast three, a hero shot early in the shot clock? Andrew, Kobe and Fisher were the only ones who showed up last night.

I think that the scope of the article is saying that Lamar doesn't learn from his past mistakes in close games and that he tends to make them over and over again. Last night was just the latest example by not covering the three point shooter--instead choosing to stop the drive.
If you give up the layup, your still up 1 and not tied.

but hes an allstar against the likes of the clippers or those other teams weve played, and he gets tons of praise. the dude is in a zone all by himself at times. just dont understand it. his place is on the blocks and hoisting it up when he gets smaller guys, but he passes it out and becomes hesitant. anyways, been there done that with lamar. i did notice this however, kobe was lookin him off and almost ignoring him while wide open on the wing on several occassions. the key? bynum is showin up. give him the looks and show what hes been practicing with kareem these past years. secondly, hope that the lamar/gasol running passing to each other attack shows up again. when that was goin on, the speed game was awesome. lamar and gasol. however, currently, he looks lost.

Of the many mistakes we made last night, that was probably the most costly. I was thinking it, the announcers were thinking it, the fans at Staples were thinking it, everybody at home was thinking it -- anything but a 3.
And Lamar promptly leaves his man and gives up, what else, but a 3. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
I have a lot of respect for Lamar's team-first attitude and the way he keeps a low profile. He's generally a very good player. But unfortunately, mental lapses like this are one of his defining characteristics. Simply put, when the chips are down, I don't trust him.

He did block Diaw's shot in the 1st OT. So i guess he learned something. But your right you never leave the shooter. In saying that we had our chances to win the game.

Is there anyone else who still has the patience to see Sasha shoot 3s without hesitation? I defended him before because the coaches molded him into a shooter and it was something we needed at the time. Right now, we need a secondary playmaker, and when Sasha was seen driving and dishing out earlier this season I thought the coaches were able to bring out the PG quality out of him. After watching this game I have never been more angry at his awful shooting. When he goes cold, usually it was due to missing open shots, and he makes up for it with his effort on defense. Last game he didn't even bother passing the ball even though the defender was right next to him. I don't care if he made those shots, those aren't shots he's supposed to take.
Why do people still complain about Odom? He has much less responsibility this year as a bench guy and we know by now that he likes to space out and is not a fierce enough competitor to be an allstar. When you include his FT attempt, he's tied with Fisher on shot attempts, the KGB trio still shot the ball more than Odom did. How was Odom hogging? Pounding the ball to Gasol against a team with two good defensive centers is suicide, and if Bynum keeps getting the ball he will just get stripped several more times by Okafor. Bynum finished with 15 in regulation so he got his fair share of touches.
Fact is, no one was able to get open, Kobe had to pull up difficult jumpers like the corner of the key jumpshots on several occasion. Bynum and Gasol were only open in the paint twice for the entire game. Had they not played inside out properly the 3 point shooting would be so bad the Cats would have won in regulation even if Diaw bricked at the line 10 times. Lakers played well, the Cats just played better.

I agree... I dont mind seeing Lamar get pt through the first 42 minutes of the game.... But I HATE seeing him on the court for the last 6... I wonder when Phil will realize that Lamar is just not a clutch player

probably around the same time he realizes that it is probably best to have bynum in there at the end

yeah i don't think it was just him not showing up... sasha and gookhead luke with that stupid turnover. It was like as soon as they lost kobe, their hopes were over; no more momentum; we surrender... etc... Only person that i noticed that really stepped up at the end was bynum... everyone else was just at a lost (no punn intend). Lo had dumb plays as well as the others and they all added up to that 2OT and cost us the win..

Im with Kobe on this one, he needs to take ish seriously and not laugh it off like it's nothing.
We lost the Spurs game on a late three, and a few other ones cause we left people wide open.
This is also bad coaching on P.Js end too.
Ahhhhhh Im over it, the Kittycats own us, no matter how you look at it.

yeah the laughing at his constant horrendous free throws is pretty aggravating. Why can't he focus just a bit more on FT's?
He totally did miss Andrew a few times as well, but he usually finds guys. The FT's piss me off since Phil plays him in the clutch.

i totally agree. that 3 was BIG. give 'em 2, we're still up 1 and lets go down on offense and play another round of defense or so. but sheesh, 3bomb right on his face, and then the panic set in.
anyhow, im kinda with jax on this one. lets freakin see what happens and if he can wake his own ass up and bring somethin to the table when we need it.

the reason phil plays odom in the clutch is because odom doesn't clog the lane the same way bynum does
thus giving kobe more room to operate
phil like every other decision that's criticised (ie playing luke) has believe it or not thought this through...

I'll agree with the clogging the lane thing but playing Ariza in the 4th instead of playing Sasha doesn't help that matter.

i think some are being a little to hard on odom. he is what he is,and we have to accept that. he is not and will not ever be that star player we want him to be. he is a nice guy but his basketball iq has always been -150.

He's been playing very good basketball lately but his IQ has always been in question, that was just another example

I always hated Odom. I used to want Wallace for him but now I like the Bobcats to so that would be awful.
They aren't gonna take a risk though and make a feb 19 blockbuster and there probably not gonna sign him after the season so hopefully he helps us gets a ring and then goes.
I would like to get something for him but I doubt it in this economy they do a sign and trade or a sign unless the less money he is talking about taking is the midlevel which I doubt.
