Chad Ford: How Shaq and Kobe could reunite

Post#1 » by WCDYNASTY » Tue Feb 17, 2009 9:02 pm

This is on ESPN but I can't read the article because I don't have ESPN Insider anymore. I do know that in this article that he mentioned a trade that has the Suns sending Shaquille O'Neal to the Lakers for Lamar Odom, Chris Mihm and D.J. Mbenga (works in trade checker).

I personally would LOVE to see Shaq back here in LA but this trade to me is addition by subtraction so I'd be 50/50 on this deal.

I would hate that deal because the Lakers would have to pay Shaq 40 millions or something like that for the next year and it would make it imposible to resign Ariza as well.

With the way LO is playing right now... ionoz... Even if the return of shaq would be great, but i doubt kobe would accept that, you can tell during the ASG that they were kewl with each other but kobe doesn't want him back just yet. Want that championship with no help first hehe.

Shaq the team destroyer:

1996 Magic, check!
2004 Lakers, check!
2007 Heat, check!
2008-2009 Suns, check! check!

he may not be a Cancer like Artest, but more like an STD. he is a whole lotta fun getting him, but once he leaves, the damage is done.

who wants him to be a Lakers again?

Aren't we 43-10 with two of the most skillful 7 footers in the world and a 6-10 TD threat off the bench?

Why on Earth would we want Shaq, particularly at the expense of Odom?

The only move management should be making is ensuring that we have the sufficient funds available to re-sign Ariza (though a backup combo guard wouldn't hurt - someone like Brian Shaw circa 2002).
In an age of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act...

There's no need to explain why it's a moronic move to trade SHAQ at the expense of our key guys. Mihm for SHAQ maybe.

With the way Odom is playing I wouldnt trade him for Shaq.

I just hope that Odom continues this play for the rest of his career. He is a very talented player that never played with this intensity until 2 weeks ago.

...All that and Shaq coming back is only possible if Phil signs an extension for a couple more seasons.

I could see him wanting to come back but he pretty much burned his bridges with Buss...

I think about the only way I see him coming back is if Phil is still here, he takes around the vet minimum, and it doesn't cost us anyone of consequence...

I'd like to se Shaq retire a Laker, but only if it's on our terms.

if sarver really panics and they don't get any takers for shaq during the trade deadline, he can buy shaq out for the remainder of his last year and the lakers can sign him for a low salary contract.

the suns won't be over the luxury tax next season so if it were to happen, it would be this year. it would save the team 8 million this year, since no luxury tax will have to be paid. i don't know if the luxury tax is paid at the end of the season or the beginning of the season. this is the only way i see shaq coming back now that odom has stepped up and bynum looks like he is coming back this season.

I agree but there is no way the Suns would do that, specailly after what they have gone through and to simply let Shaq go knowing dam well he wants to return to LA and retire in LA.
I think they would rather pay the 8 mil than to see their 20 mil dollar man play for their most hated rival.

Actually, it was Kobe who destroyed the chemistry. I reference PJ's book when he states "I can't coach that kid anymore". He also said that Shaq, when told to do something for the team that he didn't agree with would protest, but would do it anyway, while Kobe would say, "Okay" and then do what he wanted to anyway. I also reference the 04 finals- Kobe decided, and I quote PJ, that he "was tired of being a sidekick" and decided that the 04 Finals belonged to him. And we know how that turned out. And I need not mention his off court antics. Do you think anything that Shaq has done to the Lakers has ruined the chemistry more than telling the POlice that "I should have paid hush money like Shaq does!" There's nothing that can ruin team chemistry like potentially destroying a teammate's marriage and image.

So while you Kobe fans may disagree with me, a noted Shaq fan, you need to understand why the dynasty broke up. It wasn't all because Shaq wanted more money, or because he didn't like Kobe. Kobe had more to do with it, and even PJ has gone on record saying that. Plus, he held the team hostage thru his free agency to get rid of Shaq and PJ, but realized that he wasn't going anywhere without PJ and some help. So why exactly do you guys worship Kobe and despise Shaq again? The man led you guys to a 3 peat.
