Drew Gooden..............LOLLLLLL

Post#1 » by TonyMontana » Fri Mar 13, 2009 5:55 pm

As I was watching last nights game, I saw Gooden sitting on the bench and wondered when he was going to play just to see how he would do onn the SPurs lineup but as time went on NO DREW.....LOLLL
So I thought to myself,
A. Im so glad we didnt pick him up.
B. What made him decide to play for the Spurs, I thought he wanted minutes????
C. Why do certain players that really dont have to much to offer skip on signing with the Lakers even if they are contenders.
D. Would Gooden offer anything if he did play for the Lakers.
E. Did the Lakers make a strong attempt to obtain Gooden, and if they did would he get any P.T and if he did which player would suffer.

So I cameup with F. None of the above.
You know why? Cause Phil is a great coach and he has build teams around chemistry, and he felt adding certain players like Marbury, Smith, Gooden would destroy that Chemistry, and I think he is right.

So heres my question?
Did Gooden make the right decision by signing with The Spurs or should he have signed with LA with the hopes of getting a title?

I wondered why we need him and we have way better players in our bench , we are so good with what we have and we will make it this season, bank on that

He's good, but we don't need Gooden. Josh "freakin" Powell happily fullfills that role..

Thats what I thought too, and didnt he say he wanted to go to the Spurs so he can get more P.T then why was he sitting on the bench dressed up and cheering?

that was drew gooden's first game with the spurs and only second game in like 2 months. there really isn't anything more to read into it than that.

I think he got some sports hernia whatever... plus pop didn't want to use him yet since he just joined the team. Seeing how Powell is playing well, I'm glad we didn't sign him.

You know.. i heard on the radio that they did a survey on who the players would least likely want to play with and Number 1 was of course Marbuary but at Number 3, it was Kobe... sad.

If this is directed to me then let me address your post.
I dont HATE on the guy for not signing with us.
He was released by the Kings, so he is getting paid no matter what, so he has the opion of signing with any team that can use him.
So he chose The Spurs because he said he wanted to get P.T and I have watched a few Spurs games and guess what??? He's on the bench cheering.

So when I see that then I think to myself, if Im in the same position as he was then I would've chose a contender, are the SPurs contenders? Maybe Do they have a better shot than the Lakers for the title, I dont know but obviously Im a Laker fan and my team is the N#1 team in the league and we have beaten The Spurs 2-1 this year so if I decided to stay in the W/C I would prefer playing with The Lakers than any other team.

Now Im not knocking on the guy for choosing The Spurs, I just think he had a lot better option sitting in front of him than The Spurs.
If he decided to play for The Spurs so be it, if and when we play The Spurs and we come out winning then Im sure he is going to realize that he couldve been a part of team that was contending and he couldve had a shot at winning a title (Thats if The Lakers win the chip this year).

So again Im not knocking on the guy or hating on him, I just think he couldve made a better choice, but thats just me.

WHo knows maybe The Spurs might pull it off this year, but then again maybe they wont.

i don't think there is any doubt that picking the spurs was the best choice for him if his priority was to actually get playing time. with the lakers, he's looking at not even being in the rotation in the playoffs if bynum comes back. with the spurs, once he's finally healthy, he's going to get plenty of minutes. like i said before, using his lack of playing time recently isn't fair at all, since he's coming off an injury.

Like I've said before on this topic, this just shows the level of what the Spurs have sunk to. They pick up a guy who for all of his career has been about him and him only. For one we DIDN'T NEED him at all so let's get that out the way now. The Spurs for years built their rep on playing hard nose lock down defense, but yet you go get a guy who's never been a defender ?

Truth be told the Spurs have guys on their roster who just don't produce, Pop felt or feels he needs to have another emergency scorer if needed, this is all Gooden will supply them with. This team can't beat the Lakers anymore period. For all the praise we heap on Bynum, we've beaten the Spurs mostly without him. In the last 8 game (counting playoffs) the Lakers are 6-2 against them and could easily be 8-0 if not for Fish brain cramp and just the lousy out put in Game 3.

In a nutshell I'm glad we didn't sign him or any of these has been guys like Starbury, Smith or Moore.

I mean really what impact are these guys making with their new teams ? Please tell me one game they've won for them.............please tell me.

how do you expect someone to instantly contribute without building trust, understanding of both their roles within the systems they play

when we do fill out our playoff roster, would any of you expect that 15th man to instantly contribute?
