steve smith said something interesting to me. he said alot of people expect kobe to be great all the time, and so it's really no big deal when he is. do you guys agree or disagree?

It's unfortunate, but that's the nature of the beast when you're that good. That's not unique to Kobe; that happens with every great athlete in every sport. You perform as such a high level, for so many games over so many seasons, it's only natural to start taking that for granted. But I don't think we expect too much, not at all. He's got the track record that shows he's more than capable of playing at the level he does, and he's very well compensated for his performance.

I think so. We are so used to his great play when he has a couple of rough games we go crazy. I have been upset with him the last two games. I think he should drive more, but I think he's saving it for the playoffs.

To me you can disregard the stats the last two. For me its all body language. And the last 2 games seems as though he's not focused. Which is really, really rare to see.

I think Kobe will play harder if he doesn't win MVP because he will have something to prove.

Of course, because many Laker fans are old enough to feel like the Lakers should win it every year.

And many are too young to even remember the painful years post-Magic pre-Kobe/Shaq.

Then again, this is the same city that yawned when Beckham came to town.

We do take Kobe for granted, because we've seen it too many times. I know somebody who worked at in-n-out who can't eat their burgers anymore.

One day, Marko Jaric is going to wake up and look at Adriana Lima, and...I know, I know, unthinkable, but he's going to think to himself, meh.

And you know what? Some people in L.A. sit at home blogging and chatting at their homes, completely oblivious to the beautiful weather. A crime.

We all take things for granted. maybe y'all can start by stop chanting about tacos.

Here's a new chant: We-Want-Health-Care!

At least that would be more important than a basketball game.

Great post miles, anyway we as fans expect to see our stars in their highest form every night. Fact is they're human too they will struggle from time to time. Great players will figure out how to recover much faster than your average player. Truth is we expect them to come with it nightly. Nice topic magic !

Expect too much? Yes, quite often actually, but at the same time Kobe gets too many free passes for his on court and off court behavior by fellow Laker fans.

what free passes are you refering to? kobe's get's it from the media for just about anything he does wrong off the court. as for his on court behavior i find it funny that hen kobe yells at his teammates he pushing them away, but if kg,wade,or lebron yells then they are showing leadership...

Re-read my post, I didn't say the media, I said Laker fans. It is true that we give too many excuses to Kobe simply because this team would suck without his help. In the past people justify his volume shooting because he has no help, now that this team has a shot at the title he's still shooting at a high volume. Yes, he's our only consistent scorer, but if he's willing to pass more the offense can run well without Gasol having a good game. He's also not just shooting more in crutch time, there have been games where he attempted at least 6 shots in the first quarter, and that's not team basketball no matter how much justification you put up.

seems to me you are nitpicking, but to each his own i guess...doesn't seem to me like he is shooting to much. i mean if a guy is hot i don't care what quarter it is he should keep shooting. you ride the hot hand...also to call him a volume shooter is just like calling every great scorer a volume shooter. team basketball is winning.

If Kobe plays 100%, he gotta be great, all the time. Because he's absolutely great.

Whenever he's not doing well, that means he's not playing 100%, not even 80%

We expect much from Kobe, because he can give so much more than we even expect. That's why he does the unexpected.

I disagree with Steve Smith

Nitpicking would be complaining about him hogging in the 4th once a year, but he does that pretty much all the time when the game isn't a blowout. Aside from the most recent Spurs game, there was never a time where the Lakers score as a team and play tough defense in the last 6 minutes of the game. Kobe shooting the ball everytime he dribbles down court to close out games has become such a trademark now few Laker fans will call him out for it no matter how cold his jumpers are.

If he shoots less and get his teammates involved more, team defense will elevate because teammates are not being frozen out.
