Heat fan here...

I'm not sure what you guy's have in mind for when Odom's contract expires at the end of this year, but how would you guys feel about this sign & trade...

Heat Get

Lamar Odom (he signs a new long term contract starting at 10-12 million a year)

Lakers Get

Udonis Haslem (7.1 Million)
Draft Pick (Toronto's future first?)

The Heat would be able to make that trade work because we have a 4.5 million dollar trade exception. If you guys were to do this, you could then give Ariza his money and make his your full time SF. You then have Haslem as your 3rd big, who would be perfect along side either Bynum or Gasol.

If we didn't have Pau Gasol, I would like that deal. Haslem, however, doesn't strike me as being someone who could come off the bench and bring a spark. He brings a toughness throughout the game as a quality starter.

All in all, I think Odom will re-sign for less than that and the Lakers will keep him. With the way everything is going to be this summer, I would be shocked if he got an offer for more then 8 million a season.

If that trade did happen, I wouldn't be too upset.

By the way, I'm not sure if you can combine a trade exception with a player to make a deal work. Could be wrong, but I don't think you can.

Why is everyone so adamant that Odom will stay? Even with the economy and his repeated statement about wanting to stay as a Laker, if he can find better deals out there he would take it for sure. As Tyler said Haslem isn't suitable as a backup so I doubt the Lakers would do that trade.

a better question is: Why would we want to do that?

And Odom will not make 10-12 mil in his next contract

Yeah, I think some of these free agents are in for a rude awakening this summer. If you're not a bonafide superstar, you're not going to get anywhere near what you might have gotten before the recession/depression. I think most teams are going to either save cap space for 2010, or they're going to hunker down and hoard their cash until the economy turns around. Who's going to shell out $12 million for a complementary player like LO?

Add to that the fact that there will likely only be two or three teams that could even offer him more then the MLE and those teams are like Memphis and Minnesota, I don't think he's going anywhere. There is probably 1 maaaybee two big contracts out there this summer and there is Boozer, Artest, Sheed, AI, and a few others that are in the mix as well. Lamar isn't a greedy dude, I think he'll stay and I think Buss will pay. Only way I see him gone is if he just has a terrible playoffs and we lose. I think he'll get around 7 mil and Ariza 4-5.

That being said... IF for some reason Lamar was leaving for a better contract or something I'd be ok with a sign and trade for Haslem and change because he would probably fit in the triangle pretty nicely as a reserve, good rebounder, good defender, and nice jumpshot. Although he and Josh Powell are so similar I don't know if it'd be worth it. With Powell playing well on the cheap, Ariza becoming our starting SF and shooting the 3 well, if we had to sign and trade him I'd much rather do it for a legit PG. Maybe for an Alston/Pietrus package after the year is over when Orlando won't need him anymore or maybe a Blake/Pryzbilla package or even a guy like Micheal Redd who could be a triangle PG.

Come on man what did you expect coming here with a trade question now when teams are gearing up for the playoffs ?

As to your question..........7.1 is too much to play for a back up in the triangle offense. What does he do that Josh Powell can't give the Lakers ?

we can keep odom for 7-8mill a year and give ariza the mle or 3 year 15mill and give shanon brown a 3 year 4mill

Trade exceptions cant be combined with players to aquire another player per the CBA. If you have a trade exception worth 4.5 million, for example, we could trade you Luke Walton straight up for the trade exception.
