Is the lack of consistency a concern in our playoff hopes

Post#1 » by kevin_405 » Sun Mar 29, 2009 2:27 am

For the 70 odd games played so far in the season there is a consistent pattern..

We are up 15-20 pts and then we give up lead.. and then again we get ahead by some points and then either win or lose the games.. Mind u these are games against avg opponents at best..

The common factor has been everybody losing energy together as a team.. Be it because opponents change defensive assignments or change the scheme and move to zone or move to small ball or start doubling Kobe.. all open up weakness due to lack of a true point guard..

We will probably run into SA/Boston or Cleavland in the quest to the championship and all the 3 teams excel at employing the above mentioned strategy..

I still think Mitch made a critical mistake not going after Stephan.. the guy is avg 4 assist per game.. that is probably more assists than Fish and Farmar put together..

Will this effect us in our quest for the NBA title..

wow! I actually thought you had a legit question when I read the thread tittle, but then I read the post and realized how off the post is.

the triangle offense does not require a true point guard so half your argument is moot. about Marbury, he would have taken a while to contribute within our offense and he would not be getting that many assists playing the tri.

yea minus the whole marbury point guard thing. you may have something

but the lakers get bored. simple as that.

When we play Boston, Cleveland, San Antonio even Hornets. We come out playing smart hard and focused. If this holds up in the playoffs...we'll be fine. If it doesn't...we lose probably early (WCF)

lack of starbury is not a concern but the lack of consistency might be. however, during last years playoff run i thought there was a hightened sense of focus compared to the regular season. this season i think the team has improved the ability to sustain their intensity level............winning over 80% of their games seems to back that view. regardless of momentum swings during the game, i think they have the mental fortitude to deal with runs made by the opponent.

Kobe in the starting lineup does reduce the need of a PG in the starting lineup.. but our bench is woefull without a true play maker..

I dont mean to infer that we should have gone after Stephan.. but sure we could have made a move for a decent backup PG who was warming some teams benches because of too much depth.. Marcus williams comes to mind..

Steph was the cheapest option thats all..

It is not the triangle that is the cause of the trouble but when the opponents start employing zone or the above mentioned defensive schemes the traingle goes off to a toss..

We have been short one decent PG all season.. Hope was Sun Yue and the guy is garbage..

rotations get tighter in the playoffs, benches get played less, less bench players used (especially if bynum comes back)

I dont buy that the bench is not imp we actually got punked last time by Eddie House , Leon Po and Big Baby..
Goes to show how much of a role the bench plays.

We have to 2 players Jordan and Sasha who play the same position SG.. thats why all the bench does is take jump shots .. easy thing to stop for opponents...

If that isn't the obvious question of the day, I'm puzzled as to what is.
