Kobeless Lakers Vs Lebronless Cavs in 7 game series?
who wins?
Gasol >>>>>>>>>Verajao
Bynum = Ilgauskas
Odom>> Szczerbiak
Sasha <<<<<<<<<<< Mo Will
Fisher << West
Tough call imo, but I would prolly give it to the Cavs.

Your matchups are strange as all heck.
PG- Fisher
SG- Vujajic
SF- Ariza
PF- Gasol
C- Bynum
vs.
PG- Mo Williams
SG- West
SF- Sczerbiak
PF- Varejao
C- Ilgauskas
The benches matter quite a bit in this though so it's tough to say.

put the Homer goggles down and think about it some.Tommy Trojan wrote:Lakers! No questions about that.
as far as the strange match ups, I thought that would be ours and their starting line ups if Kobe and Lebron were not playing.

Will Bynum be playing? If he is, Lakers take it in 6. If not, Cavs in 6.

The Cavs are nothing but spot up shooters. Most of the Lakers can actually create for themselves. It isnt even a contest. Lakers in 4.

That's true in a sense although Mo Williams can penetrate. Varejao and Wallace at the 4 is a major black hole that helps us guard LeBron.

Re: Kobeless Lakers Vs Lebronless Cavs in 7 game series?
If Bynum is healthy he is not equal to Ilgauskas, IMO. Maybe scoring wise, but as stated Ilgauskas is a spot-up shooter. I don't think Mo Williams can create enough for everyone, he'd have to average 40 and 15.
Whereas I think our twin tower effect would be too much. Combine that with Odom and I think our bigs are too skilled, too efficient, too good of passers to lose in 7. But just IMO.

this is stupid, all you are asking is who has a better supporting cast - and in our case we have a proven allstar in pau gasol who has carried his own team, which was a 50+ win team. so lakers no question about it, but really why....

Re: Kobeless Lakers Vs Lebronless Cavs in 7 game series?
just had a similiar discussion on the celtics board, where I never try to post but couldn't resist. Question was: take the best player from the Celts (KG), Lakers, Cavs and Magic and how do the teams stack up.
I think it's between the Lakers and Celtics without Kobe and KG. Then i'd say the magic may even be better with than the cavs missing Dwight to Lebron. THis would assume Jameer Nelson were playing. End of the day, most people would agree Kobe has a better supporting cast than Lebron. C'mon, Odom, Gasol, and Bynum? throw in Ariza. We could dump through Gasol and Bynum, let Odom run the offense and we'd demolish the Cavs. Who would they run it through? Mo Williams? Him and Michael Redd couldn't get the bucks to the playoffs. Who would he do it with on the Cavs? Big Z and Varejo. no way.

Re: Kobeless Lakers Vs Lebronless Cavs in 7 game series?
LA would definitely win if Kobe and Lebron were out for their respective teams in the finals with the clear advantage being Pau Gasol. Mo Williams is better than any of your guards not named Kobe so that gives the caves a slight advantage in the backcourt, but I just see Gasol as a player more capable of stepping into a star role if need be. On the Cavs, they have nice role players that fit nicely with Lebron, but LA is clearly the more balanced club of the two.

Mo Williams had an all-star season, but the point of the other post was that with even Michael Redd he couldn't make the playoffs. Michael Redd, a great scorer, is much better than anyone on a LeBron-less Cavs team.
Also, in regards to Pau vs Mo....Pau has the advantage of being a bigman, who would arguably have more control over a series. Well if NBA championship history (so many dominant teams with dominant big men) tells us anything.
(Oh and there's Andrew Bynum, and if we're talking hypothetically, as we seem to be doing, he'd be healthy and as effective as Pau...so, good luck Big Z in trying to guard a guy that's 12 years your junior, 15 pounds heavier, and doesn't just shoot standstill jump-shots....I'm just saying it'll be fun to watch.)

Re: Kobeless Lakers Vs Lebronless Cavs in 7 game series?
cavs rely a lot more on lebron than the lakers rely on kobe. we have lots of weapons that can make shots on their own. lebron just has a lot of pieces around him that play well with him there. lakers will beat cavs without kobe and lebron

I think it would be a 4-0 sweep by the lakers.... cav's are definately a lottery team even in the east without LBJ

What a joke topic. Cavs are utter crap without LBJ.
Lakers in 5.
Lakers in 5.

Re: Kobeless Lakers Vs Lebronless Cavs in 7 game series?
wouldnt be a 4-0 sweep
the advantage is clear in the front court, and gasol/odom would have to demand the ball every time, but not having a star wing that can properly slash and/or pull-up for the midrange J makes the lakers an incredibly one-dimensional team (ie throw the ball down low and kick out for the three), im not sure the lakers remaining backcourt options have the passing acumen to continually get the ball to our bigs
you would see cleveland fronting all of our big men and packing the paint making it incredibly difficult to get it to gasol or drive to the basket without kobe. im not sure farmar/sasha could relieve the pressure often and well enough by the way theyre playing
the style of play would denigrate into the bench mob push style, farmar probably taking bad contested shots because his defenders are sagging off him, sasha rimming three shots and generally losing control of his dribble when driving into the paint and fisher bricking layups. eventually the lakers would resort to bombing up threes and not even trying to get the ball to gasol/odom on the block
with mo williams providing big production because fisher can't hang with mo for 40 minutes and farmar is a turnstyle, iggy would be dragging bynum/gasol out of the paint and give mo and delonte a much easier time with one of those guys out of position to defend the paint
when you look at the teams, lakers have the bigs and shooters but are missing that slasher, but the cavs still have the bigs/slashers/shooters even without lebron
the lakers would definitely be more talented, but the cavs are much more balanced
of course, thats just theory
