3pt %, who to target in FA

Has anyone noticed how bad our 3pt shooting has been since the radmanovic trade?
not saying it wasnt a good thing, but compared to last year, we had 4 guys shooting over 40% from long range (radman, fish, sasha and farmar)
and as of right now, we have none (brown is shooting 37.8% for the season from both the bobcats and lakers and pau gasol is like 1-2 so he doesn't count)
what kind of players do you think kupchak will look at trying to acquire through free agency??
im hoping kupchak goes and steals steve novak much the same way he stole powell or radmanovic from the clippers
unlike radmanovic, novak only has been in the league for 3 yrs and although he has a reputation as a shooter, hasnt really gotten an opportunity until the clippers gave him this season. Hes 6'10" (like radmanovic), is a SF/PF tweener like radmanovic and shoots at a better clip than radmanovic and is currently earning the minimum and is only 25 years of age.
i dont know how much the clippers are going to offer novak in unrestricted free agency, but it cant be that much and im sure we can snag him at quite a bargain price much like josh powell

Bottom line is this, you gotta have a player on the floor who can do more than just shoot 3's. Vlad was a liability much like Novak would be because he can't guard anybody. Why add a problem you just solved ?

the problem was capspace and luxury tax implications, novak wont cost that much
not signing novak doesnt solve the problem (3pt shooting) does it? id take the chance since its a low-risk high-reward type contract
powell was brought in to be a ronny clone, novak will be brought in to be a radman clone, except on a much lower impact contract
i dont see whats not to like about this gamble??, not like its going to be a MLE type deal to screw us for years to come but more along the lines of 2M/2yrs, 2nd yr unguaranteed, if it doesnt work out, we waive the guy

I think Morrison will take care of that next season. He's a sleeper and one hell of a scorer when healthy.
But sure, I'd take Novak over Sasha 24/7/365.

^Ooh, couldn't disagree more EE (about the Novak over Sasha comment). Sasha brings so much more than Novak in so many areas. No comparison on defense, no comparison on ball handling, no comparison on ability to shoot off the dribble.
Novak is an absolute knock down shooter when WIDE open, no question about it. But thats all you get.
I say NOvak.

Haha! ^
I honestly haven't watched him enough to have an informed opinion, so I'll take your word for it. His stroke is extremely smooth, that's about all I know.

Thank you for realizing what others can't.............why can't people understand you have to bring elements to the table besides just being a shooter. We just got rid of a one dimensional player why on earth would we bring back another ?
I agree with EE, Ammo will be given a shot to be the designated gunner and he's on the clock for 6 mil. It's about getting what you pay for and damn it we need to see how this toy works.

Sasha defends properly?

No, but he tries. For all his flaws -- the excessive chucking, the reach fouls 40 feet from the basket, the web site, the hair -- I just can't get completely down on Sasha. I can't. A little more consistency on his part would go a long way towards filling our need for another shooter or two.

We need Fisher and Vujacic to improve their percentage while Ariza and Brown continue to improve theirs ... that's it. Absolutely NO guys who are liabilities.
In the draft though we should go after a big point guard (Nick Calathes or Jrue Holiday) in the first round (Calathes can really shoot) and in the second round we should draft a replacement shooter for Fisher. I really like Jack McClinton ... think Eddie House.

Lets see...aside from what we potentially have here breaking out for us (Vujacic, Morrison, Ariza?), I could see the following as possible additions.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/stor ... ents-09-10PG- Damon Jones
- Tyronn Lue
- Juan Dixon
SG/SF-
Wally Szczerbiak- Devean George (Player Option)
- Gerald Green
-
Maurice Ager- Jarvis Hayes (Team Option)
- Quentin Richardson (ETO)
- Rodney Carney
-
Matt Barnes-
Anthony Parker: I don't know a sweeter looking stroke.
- Ime Udoka
- Kareem Rush
PF/C- Steve Novak (Restricted)
- Hedo Turkoglu (ETO)
- Donyell Marshall: Can still hit it; I recall him lighting up Miami in a recent game.
-
Rasheed Wallace

As gross as it is to say, Posey would be the perfect guy for us. Defense and 3 point shooting. Hornets want to cut costs, we can trade Morrison+more for him. I'd like Battier more, but I don't see Houston moving him.

Wally Szczerbiak If it is just about grabbing a player that can shoot 3pt shots a good %. However 3pt% is based on a lot of different things as well. A good example is Dirk. His 3pt attempts have been contested 3's meaning lowering his chances of making them. But when it comes to the pending free agency we are going to have to use the MLE and that is going to lower our chances. Jason Kidd anyone? Crazy as it sounds he is actually shooting 40% from 3pt land this year and with the open looks he would get with Bryant, Gasol, & Kobe being the main guys it would probably go up. Than again Shannon Brown Has been doing well with more playing time at the PG.
And TKB Sasha defends aggresively. That is part of his ability that PJ loves so much. Not the best defender on the court but his aggresive D frustrates players.

If we could trade Morrison for James Posey, we should do in a heartbeat. If he's a player on your team, you love him. If he's on a different team, you hate him. We need players like that. I've had so much respect and wanted him as a Laker ever since he played with the Heat.
Regardless though, we're most likely going to try to get Odom/Ariza/Brown back and then we'll have nothing left after that.

Totally agree with you, ST. Whereas, compared to Farmar, he doesn't try and I want to take him out back and kick his ass sometimes.

No, not most of the time..but he does pester just about everyone he guards. He gets in their heads and draws fouls pretty often. Novak can't stay in front of anyone, I'd much rather have Sasha than Novak, but wouldn't mind givin him a shot if Ammo doesn't work out.

sasha is supposed to be decent
kobe is better at shooting 3 pointers with a hand down his grill
and ariza shoots 30%
