This is where Kobe has ranked the last few years:
2009 - 1st
2008 - 2nd (KG 1st after getting dealt to Boston and getting a new jersey)
2007 - 1st
2006 - 4th
2005 - 5th
2004 - 5th
2003 - 7th
2002 - 1st
Looks like he's stabilized himself as the most popular player in the game again. Been a long way to come back after Colorado though, but seems like that's in the past to the general public now.

I usually take Knicks players on that list with a grain of salt since the list will be biased towards the Knicks seeing as they measure jersey sales from sales from NBA.com and the Knicks store at MSG.
Marbury used to be top 5ish before he left the Knicks.

The Lakers are the most popular team in the NBA. Kobe has to be ahead of LeBron unless LeBron gets a new number or switches teams. Put LeBron with the Knicks and the New York market and he will shatter the record.

Not surprised at all, despite Lebron and Wade's hype and marketing machine.
Are they still playing that Guitar Hero commercial? That was so cool...oh wait a minute, that's right, New York's A-Roid...
