Overrated and oft repeated stat When Kobe takes less than 21

Post#1 » by kevin_405 » Mon May 18, 2009 1:52 pm

Every time the analysts on ESPN/TNT speak they repeat this stat that Kobe should take less than 21 shots for the team to win..

They also make is look like it is Kobe's fault if he takes more than 21 shots..

Kobe for most part of the season has deferred to his supporting cast.. When they make their shots Kobe does not need to take more than 21 shots.. but our supporting cast has lacked consistency in the playoffs so far..
Usually when the bench is missing is when Kobe feels the pressure of stepping up and forces him to take more shots.

So i think it is the rest of team that should be faulted for Kobe taking more than 21 shots.
Do u guys agree?

it can't all be blamed on the supporting cast, but from what i have seen the only time kobe shoots alot is when the rest of the team is not shooting well, and needs him to take over...
Only on realgm is 27,000 points, 5 rings, 1 rs mvp and 2 finals mvp considered overrated!

^^exactly

its as simple as this, if Ariza, Fisher, Farmar, Brown and Vujacic are making their open shots, then Kobe will shoot less, if they're not then the team needs Kobe to take over so they can stay afloat.

ESPN tries to put it in one way, when in reality its the other way around. Kobe has shown us over the years that he's a very willing passer when the supporting cast is making their shot, he did it with Brian Cook for God's sake, also with Radman when his shots weren't hitting the side or the top of the backboard

All Kobe needs to do is stop jacking long, LONG 20+ foot jumpers.

If he takes a shot inside at least 19-feet or closer (there was a statistic about this) he's a actually a very efficient ~70% from the field!

And the whole "When Kobe takes 21 shots or MORE..." issue will actually end in "... the Lakers WIN!"

Jump shots are the only thing open for Kobe when Gasol and Bynum are in the middle because the lane gets too congested.. thats why having a outside jump shooting PF is very important in spacing the floor for drives.

opponents like to convert the lakers into jump shooting team and Kobe will have to keep taking and making the jumpshot for the lane to open up..

Is there a stat that shows # of shots for every 48 mins? I mean most of the time when Kobe has taken fewer shots or fewer points is because they are blowing teams away and he simply sits on the bench and watches the bench finish the game OR if the bench is performing well and Phil wants to leave them in the game (how often does that happen). Whosoever looks only at the # of shots every single time Kobe plays, IMO is not a good student of basketball.

Screw that stat, I can't believe people want to put a premium on Kobe's shot saying he has to shoot this many for the Lakers to be successful. Total joke, yet nobody mentions his shots going down over the last three seasons and his field goal percentage up. Nope nobody talks about that.

The key is for Kobe to only dunk. That way, his percentage would be 70%. Basketball is such a simple game.

Also, the key is for Kobe to shoot less, and allow Derek Fisher and Lamar Odom to shoot more, especially off the dribble or into traffic.

Our team is actually an efficient, smoothly running machine, as long as Kobe isn't shooting. Pretty basketball out there.

last nite i thought our BENCH MOB thoroughly outplayed and was the KEY factor outside of kobe of how we won. our bench play pitched in a 3 or 5 or 6 pts here or there. and it added up to victory. oiur starters were outscored, except you know who, but our starters didnt bring it. the bench however just picked up the tempo, and gave us the spark first half that kept it close.
