This thread has to be made, I think we all respect everything the guy has done for us, he has been huge for this team throughout the years, but I think it's safe to say his time in the sun has past. This is not a piss and moan thread of how poorly he has played, this is how a guy that is suppose to be leader, isn't really doing much leading.I just don't see why he can't man up and accept a lesser role. Sure there is personal pride involved here, but for a guy that is suppose to be a veteran and a leader on this team, he should look past that and do what's best for the team. Phil and the rest of the coaching staff don't seem to have the balls to go out and tell that he needs to park his behind on the bench, but if he himself goes out of his way to tell Phil to play Farmar and Brown more, I just can't see Phil not listen to him. It's time for Fish to throw away that personal pride of being a basketball player and do what's best for the team and while he isn't the only problem on this team, he sure as hell aint the solution.

agree...that will cust us the ring, i mean these team can be the champs, but can´t be **** up because of these dumb litle things , if you not playing good for a long time you lose your place in the roation, its simple....

I liked it when Luke approached Phil to let him go to the bench in favor of Ariza who was starting to click well midway through the season. I can only hope Fisher will do the same and ask Phil to reduce his minutes.

What's that saying? Pride goeth before the fall? Should be Fish's slogan right now. Can't figure out which is worse, that's he's playing so badly, or that he's playing so far outside himself. Either way he's just killing us. Absolutely killing us.

Fisher should be playing no more than 12 minutes a game right about now.

I have immense respect for Fish in a lot of ways ...but i cringe every single time he takes a shot (especially if it's a layup).

He's a total negative out there right now. I almost miss Smush. What a joke that Phil is so tough on Bynum yet Fisher plays like absolute utter trash every single night and he is allowed to play as much as he does.

I don't know you people. The LAL will hoist the trophy and DFish will be a part of it, he will have contributed in a positive way ye of little faith. Little Farmar is going to do damage vs. the most physical PG in the game? Sasha the worst offensive LAL? Shanny or KB24 would be the only answer I see. Go DFish, Go Lakers!

This is a repeat of 2004 finals where Billups outplayed all our gaurds.. And Fish was missing in action.

We need Farmar to start.. When Farmar is in the ball moves instead of players running around.
Most teams have figured that Fish cannot kill them by dribbling the ball, so no help is required.
Farmar can dribble by most defenders.. Farmar needs to start.

I agree with everyone here to the point I have nothing to add.........we're all on the same page, and that's what is so sad about it.

This reminds me of the Willie Beaman thing I saw in a recent movie.


Real talk? D-Fish plays best when he plays w/in himself (as a championship 3pt shooter and defensive stopper)

He isn't Nick Van Exel (or Achilles) and it wouldn't be fair to compare him to Nick the Quick.

And ever since he took over the PG spot from Van Exel & split time with Ron Harper during his most successful runs as a Laker, there hasn't been a Young Gunnin' Maverick that make him feel that he should give up his role as a starter (or for PJ to respect him like he does Kobe).

So yeah, I understand that.


And lemme break it down for y'all who care:

1) Kobe is best as a scorer, not a faciliator.
2) Shannon Brown is still pretty much a young buck thats gotta earn his stripes
3) Farmar doesn't like the Triangle - or following PJ's orders
4) Sasha is sasha. And I don't mean Beyonce's nickname either.

So with that said, do you really think he's going to bow to any of his team's competition?


I've advocated starting a big defensive lineup, or at least trying it before the season even started - which fyi includes the following 5ive players:

1- Kobe/Ariza/LO
2- Ariza/Kobe/LO
3. LO/Ariza/Kobe
4. Gasol/LO/Bynum
5. Bynum/Gasol

^A big, lengthy, and quite strong defensive unit that allows for swapping of bench players if necessary to rest parts of the unit.


I wasn't sure how hurt LO was during game 1... b/c I believe he can do a good job on carmelo if LO can just stay in front of him and use his length to bother Melo into tough jumpers.

Ariza should be able to take turns on Billups with the Black Mamba.

In game 2, We had seen Brown in the 4th Quarter and it made a difference. We had a little of the momentum back and we just came up short. I agree, Fisher should be just a veteran factor off the bench now.

It's not even about that, although I'm not against it.

If D-Fish ain't ballin' or playing steady, he shouldn't get rewarded for what he didn't earn.


He should know that I respect him when I say this and not take it the wrong way either.

I didn't root for the Lakers all the time against the Rockets in the 2nd round b/c we were making Aaron Brooks look 5-10x better than he really was. WTF.

I mean, I like the Rockets team, I really do, it's no secret, I've said it before.. but I'm a Lakers fan first through thick and thin.

I rooted for the Houston beatdown on the Lakers.

It didn't seem to toughen em up until Game 7 (better late than never).

And it paid off against the Nuggets Game One.


I was freaking walking around the house trying to hold my freaking head b/c I wasn't in the mood to watch the freaking game until the final minutes or seconds or so - the moment escapes me - but long story short, we won.

And like I've said first and will continue to say again, "A WIN IS A WIN."


The coach's job is putting the troops in position to succeed.

Phil's got the best soldier in the game - who's still the most excellent player in basketball, injuried pinky/index finger and all.

Lebron's the MVP, but that's the popular vote, the media vote.

I don't want to come off as a know-it-all dickk but if I don't control myself I'm afraid of what I might do to others.

why didn't I think of that? I'm a laker hater, however. I love ball and that big lineup is worth a try it could turn the entire playoffs out.

Odom's handle makes it work. I can see Phil using it against Orlando if you guys make it and Orlando makes it.

Fish isn't selfish at all. Why should anybody be surprised? I've been pointing out that Derek Fisher has been Derek Fisher ever since we got him to replace Smush Parker.

What's amazing is that after we let him go the first time, nobody cared much because he was a limited player. I'm not sure why people thought he was a championship caliber starting point guard this time around.

He shoots at bad times, can't finish, and can't defend, because he's a small 3-point specialist who doesn't have the speed or the touch to finish at the basket. He also doesn't have playmaking skills to be a set up point guard, and his lack of size prevents him from being able to make entry passes (always east-west with Fish).

But NONE of this should be a surprise. This is who Derek Fisher is.

He's got a lot of heart, pride, and is a consummate professional. That's why we got him, but he can contribute all those great intangibles from the bench.

But don't expect him to step down. He's the kind of player who, like Kobe, will try his best no matter what.

This is just bad coaching and poor management. And I don't mean in the playoffs. I mean last year, when it was clear that our team needed a better point guard, and we should have developed guys like Farmar and Brown more and much earlier - or made a trade.

Everybody's giddy off the trades that Kupchak made, but really, he didn't do a good job at all of putting guys with both heart and talent on this team. The right kind of heart, and the right kind of talent.
